Jack sure.

Schobert is not way overpaid. He's been listed as a guy that should go for right around 10M for a while and where the ILB position is now $ wise. If he's overpaid, it's by 1-2M per, but the guarantees are so low it has very little impact on how we shape the roster long term.

🤨 That’s weird because the team that he came from didn’t want to pay him over 8 and they used the money to sign other folks. But hey 🤷‍♂️ he’s not over paid. Teams don’t let good players get away.. 🤔 unless you’re the Jags.

So now we're deciding on if a deal is bad or good based on what the Cleveland Browns decide?

Just being honest.

Based on your logic no one should sign a player that hits FA.

Every situation is not the same example Arizona wanted to keep CC but they were cap strapped and just couldn’t do it they had minimal to no moves that off season. The Browns let Schobert walk.. and signed Keenum and Conklin. Cardinals biggest contract they gave that offseason was a 3 year 12 mill deal to Betha. If Schobert was irreplaceable he’d still be a Brown. This was a reach man.. it’s okay to say it.. you could have drafted a 5th round LB and probably got the same production you’ll get from Schobert next yr. You pay that kind of coin to real player not just guys.

He is liability in your biggest weakness on your defense? How is it not a reach? If it’s a good move I’d say hey that’s a solid move. Adding a guy to an already trash defense does you absolutely no gawd damn good. You say that moves like this are not cost effective to giving out future contracts and that’s wrong.. because you don’t know what the hell you’ll need 2-3 yrs down the line it’s the same dumb *** logic that got you Foles. You get a player you pay him and the numbers and everything look cost effective and suitable til you get into a situation where you need a player and you look back at your books and you have a dud staring you in the face where the contract doesn’t match the production. Stop wasting money just to waste it.

Reader is a 2-down player though. I think I may be with you due to our massive run D issues but that's an unfortunate truth.

Schobertis known as a tremendous leader that gets everyone in the right spot (something we've lacked since Poz) and one of the best coverage LBs out there. He's also a great locker room guy (again, another massive issue).

He's a very good, but not elite, inside LB. Littleton (who is coming off a better year ) but not nearly the track record got 12M and that was considered a steal by most. Blake Martinez who isn't close to Schobert got $10M per.

reader isnt just a 2 down guy. he has some pass-rush ability.  he looked good early this past year especially in their Nickle D with Watt and Reader as the down linement and reader was the 3 tech.  production wanned over the season(likely from 2 many snaps or not enough help inside).

Yes, he provides a lot better rush than most think, but he's still mostly a 2 down player and in an ideal world he isn't in their on obvious pass situations. He would've been here for sure though.

Loved watching Baldy's breakdown. Really happy to get back to having a leader in there at MLB. Our defense was all out of sorts these past couple years since Poz left assignment wise.

He'll be good out there. Jack is at his best when he doesn't have to think and just run and play. Should fit him to a tee.

yes however wlbs are pretty much a dime a dozen.  Polian didnt believe in paying them even if they were good(See Mike Peterson).

the reason i think we might cut him is because

Quote

Jack has a $7 million injury guarantee in 2021, which can vest into a full guarantee on the 5th day of the 2021 league year

Polian was relevant in the NFL like 10-15 years ago. Things have changed.

49ers just paid Kwon Alexander a boatload last year too. If he plays at a very good/elite level, there's zero reason to even think about it. We're going to have like 120M+ after Foles gets dealt next year.
