My point is it wouldn’t have matter. Shanahan got fired in Denver bc he couldn’t build a defense there after Neal Dehlan, the GM who built the back to back super bowl teams in the 90s retired. Shanahan shopped for the groceries in free agency in DC just like the from 2002-2008 in Denver. He’s the one who signed Cofield to be a NT when he should’ve had Cofield as our RDE to play opposite Carriker & instead of signing Bowen, sign or drafted a true NT for run downs. Not retaining Zo was a mistake bc Shan/Allen didn’t want to pay a little more $ to keep him. He could’ve taken over for Fletcher when he retired or just been our 5th LB. It was Shanahan’s decision to franchise Fred Davis over Landry in 2012. In 2012 Landry was a pro bowl S & Fred was meh like usual. The FA safeties Shanahan signed never worked out, the DBs they drafted never worked out. Shanahan took Jarvis Jenkins a round or 2 too high. It was just a mess. The inside linebackers Shanahan drafted were average at best & like S, he didn’t put enough emphasis into improving the position next to Fletcher for the 4 years he was HC. He didn’t sign an upgrade at ILB to play over Riley & next to Fletch. Edited March 5, 2022 by turtle28
turtle28
@aceinthehouse Chargers have to build a defense. Their O is stacked with playmakers for Herbert to throw to, they fixed their OL through the draft but their D is bad outside of a few elite players like Bosa & Derwin James. They have $56 million in cap space, they need to re-sign Mike Williams & spend the rest of that on upgrading their D.
