Week 14: VIKINGS (6-6) at Raiders (5-7)

Various times on Sunday, the receivers dropped passes. According to Pro Football Focus, the Vikings had six drops, despite the company’s conservative tendency to only rule a play a dropped pass when it’s egregious. The 28 drops rank the team inside the five teams with the most drops throughout the season.

And those include some of the key playmakers of the offense with T.J. Hockenson letting perhaps Dobbs’ best pass fall to the ground and K.J. Osborn missing the catch twice. He leads the team in credited drops with seven, followed by running back Alexander Mattison (6) and T.J. Hockenson (5). Hockenson’s drop rate is still relatively low at 5% as he is a frequent target in the offense, but Osborn and Mattison come close to 20%, which is an unacceptable number.

What is always interesting is how the snap counts look because of the injuries. Who gets the majority of snaps?

After the injury to Jefferson, Powell got the majority of snaps. He outsnapped Nailor 36 to 17 and he earned his place on the field. In turn, Osborn only got 51 snaps out of 72 fits because of his poor performance. Multiple drops ended up costing him from playing more.

Chandler exclusively got the running back snaps once Mattison went down with injury. Nwangwu got three snaps but the 40 for Chandler is a career high.

Six defensive players played the entire game on Sunday, the first time that has happened this season.

The Vikings only played three cornerbacks on 19 snaps, all of those being Blackmon. Andrew Booth Jr. didn’t play a single defensive snap. Neither did Khyiris Tonga, who Fox listed as a starter at defensive end.

NaJee Thompson got in on defense for the first time. It was on the final play where the Raiders tried a hook and ladder.

Fans of punting likely had a great time, as the two teams combined for 830 punt yards but only 433 yards of offense. It even had a missed field goal for people who are into that. Otherwise, you were likely playing on your phone during this game.

This was one of the most expensive tickets of the season and those fans got to see a lot of backups and not a lot of points. I've often wondered if you could walk out of a football game like you would at a movie theater and ask for your money back.

While it was nice the Minnesota Vikings got a win over the Raiders, there were probably a lot of fans who were just happy that the game was over and the torture of watching these offenses was finally over.

Paul Krause: "My comment on the Raiders game: great defense! They played really hard and at least we got the win! We've got to pull together quick as we can't go far playing like this overall though."

"Fun fact: The last time the Vikings had a 3-0 game was back in my playing days in 1971 vs the Packers. I actually got the game ball that day!"
