The NFL moved the void years to dead money today. So with Walker's release and the void years the Lions now have around $23m in dead money.

The upside is all of that comes off the books for the 2025 season.  Right about the time Penei Sewell will probably be playing on his 5th year option and the first year of Jared Goff's extensions.  It doesn't seem like they are going to have a lot of dead cap charges in 2025.

Looking forward the first player who needs to improve or he could cause us to create more dead money is Sutton. Raymond is another if we decide to move on. Then in 2026 we have more void years.

Kalif Raymond doesn't have a void year until 2026 ($1.5 Million charge) and would cost more to cut than it would to keep him unless it was a post June 1st cut.  John Cominsky doesn't have any void years.

After a closer look at the Lions Man vs Zone snap counts and then comparing them to other teams in the league, the Lions are generally a balanced team.

Some teams are running 90% zone coverage while some other teams are coming close to a 50/50 split. The Lions are about 2/3 zone; 1/3 man. Surprisingly, Cam Sutton was #3 in total snaps for man AND zone. He was on the field for nearly 750 coverage snaps (249 man; 487 zone).

I sorted through my list with some criteria.

1) Size: Minimum of 5'10 and 180 lbs

2) Coverage Grade: Minimum of 70.0 in Man AND Zone

3) Run Defense: Minimum of 60.0

We talked a little but about CB Qwan'Tez Stiggers in a related thread.  He went straight to the CFL but is still draft eligible.  Apparently, he didn't get a combine visit.  He seemed to have a solid Shrine Bowl though.  The Lions are bringing him in for a visit.
