We have made the following roster moves prior to the start of training camp: Placed on PUP: T Evan Neal CB Aaron Robinson,

Declared Non-Football Injury: DB Jalen Mills DB Stantley Thomas-Oliver

TE Theo Johnson was placed on PUP last week when rookies reported. Not a good start for Neal and any hope of him starting this year.

Really important update coming from Bucs camp:

Unfortunately, Bucs guard Sua Opeta will be out for the season after suffering an ACL tear. Opeta and former Giants OL Ben Bredeson were in competition for the starting LG position. With Opeta out, Bredeson is now a shoe-in for that starting spot. That is significant for the Giants because, according to Nick Korte (who is the most, and only, reliable predictor of NFL compensatory draft selections), Bredeson's playing time this year will directly affect the Giants upcoming compensatory draft selections. Per his formula, if Bredeson starts a majority of games, the Giants are likely to get a 4th round pick instead of a 7th. That's a big deal.

It's that time of the year to be optimistic, so I'm going to be optimistic.

The potential is there for the Giants to be very bad again- DJ coming off an awful season and an ACL injury, the OL (while improved on paper) still a potential question mark, and a defensive secondary that has Jerome Henderson doubling as a daycare owner. But the pieces are also there for the Giants to surprise and be very fun this year.

Dabs is running the offense, finally. We forget that he is one of the more effective, creative offensive minds in the entire league. Of course there are the big IFs in DJ and the OL, but if they hold up, this offense could be a ton of fun. Wan'Dale and Tyrone Tracy are gonna get moved around a ton and be absolute weapons for this offense. Malik Nabers is a absolute stud and a definitive #1. Hyatt's improvement since last year is noticeable and something he should be getting more praise for (his route running nuances are so, so much better than last year). Dabs has high hopes for Theo Johnson, who is one of the most athletic tight ends the league has ever seen. There are some chances to do some really fun things and get some really explosive plays going in this offense.

On defense, this front 7 is one of the better ones in the NFL and should dominate. Dexy is the best pass rushing NT the game has ever seen, Brian Burns is a bonafide pass rusher and now Thibs is playing EDGE2 after an impressive breakout year last year. Bobby O is a fantastic MLB, and Isaiah Simmons, for the first time in his career, has a set role that he should thrive in. The secondary is insanely young, but also insanely talented. CB2 is a big worry spot that I don't think I can even spin into a positive, but I'm expecting big things out of Banks at CB1, Dru Phillips, Nick McCloud, and Isaiah Simmons splitting duties at nickel corner, and I think we have 4 safeties who can play (Pinnock, Belton, Nubin, and Owens). Looking at the bright side of that group means looking forward to the competition at practice and in these preseason games and seeing who shakes out as the best 2. Bowen is a really forward thinking DC; Nate Tice had a nice blurb about him in an article he recently wrote for Yahoo.

The consensus on today's first joint practice with Detroit: "The most fun, intense, impressive training camp practice we've ever seen".

Win some reps and lose some reps, but the Giants came out fired up. Lots of fights, lots of enthusiasm, and lots of great plays. Nabers and Hyatt showed out, DJ looked cleaner than we've maybe ever seen him (he even started a fight at one point), Brian Burns was everywhere, and Dru Phillips is maybe another CJGJ with his trash talking and feistiness.
