Case Keenum will sign with broncos

Until the exact contract specifics are known, I'm trying to reserve judgement. I don't particularly like Keenum as a QB. He had a great season, but certainly a less than stellar career. That said, he's definitely better than what we've been working with, so that's a step in the right direction. From the sounds of it, his contract will be shorter, and there's questions as to how much, if any, is guaranteed past Year 1.

Someone in the Broncos forum summed it up well. Signing Keenum de-risks our offseason. There's a lot of interest in QBs, and Elway has so many holes to fill that we can't really afford to trade up, but at the same time, this doesn't lock us into a QB at 5. I think if the right QB falls we will take him, but it also allows us flexibility to pick someone else or trade the pick, and that's really what Denver needs. Compare that to the Jets or Arizona, or even Buffalo. They're likely all in for a QB, and I just don't think Elway wanted to be in that position
