One Punch Man
Imagine a new team is being ushered into the league. Every team has to pick 5 players from its roster. Designated players will be pooled (32 teams, 5 players each for a total of 160 players) and be made available to the new team via the Expansion Draft. From the total pool (and current list of Free Agents), the new franchise will pick (or “draft”) a full 53-player roster for the 2018-19 season. Typically, teams offer up players they’re actively looking to get rid of (declining performance, age, salary). Designation Rules: No kickers and punters. No players set to become free agents. No players who just spent an entire year on injured reserve. Only one player with 10 or more years of experience. That being said... What 5 players would you offer up for the 2018-19 season? Why? THE DUKE
I'm assuming you players off of the presumed 53 man roster, because with all the college free agents on rosters right now, it'd be way too easy to just lump 5 of those guys. So lets base this off of a projected Bengals 53 man roster, although i'll have 54 including Burfict since he'll open the year suspended: Offense (25): QB: Andy Dalton, Matt Barkley RB: Joe Mixon, Gio Bernard, Mark Walton, Ryan Hewitt WR: AJ Green, John Ross, Brandon Lafell, Tyler Boyd, Alex Erickson, Josh Malone, Cody Core TE: Tyler Eifert, Tyler Croft, CJ Uzomah OT: Cordy Glenn, Jake Fisher, Bobby Hart, Cedric Ogbuhi OG: Clint Boling, Christian Westerman, Alex Redmond C: Billy Price, TJ Johnson Defense (26): DE: Carlos Dunlap, Carl Lawson, Jordan Willis, Sam Hubbard, Michael Johnson DT: Geno Atkins, Chris Baker, Andrew Billings, Ryan Glasgow, Josh Tupou LB: Vontaze Burfict, Preston Brown, Nick Vigil, Jordan Evans, Mallik Jefferson, Hardy Nickerson, Vinny Rey CB: William Jackson, Darqueze Dennard, Dre Kirkpatrick, Darius Phillips, Keivare Russell S: George Iloka, Shawn Williams, Jesse Bates, Clayton Fejedelem Specialists (3): Clark Harris, Kevin Huber, Randy Bullock However the Bengals have 18 players who will be free agents in 2019, so they're out: Geno Atkins, Carlos Dunlap, Tyler Eifert, Michael Johnson, Brandon Lafell, Preston Brown, Vinny Rey, Chris Baker, Cedric Ogbuhi, Darquez Dennard, TJ Johnson, Clark Harris, Jake Fisher, Bobby Hart, Randy Bullock, Tyler Kroft, Josh Shaw, TJ Uzomah. That limits the field dramatically, along with the no specialists. I'd assume they would want to spread out the risk so likely not multiples at any one position. So with this premise, my 5 unprotected are: Shawn Williams (Bates is there to fill in and we have some guys who didn't make our 53 who could fill that void)Hardy Nickerson (Seems more like a career backup to me from what I saw last year)Andrew Billings (He's been oft injured and a bit underwhelming so far. Replacement depth with Baker and Tupou)Cody Core (I think they see Josh Malone in that role with more upside)Alex Redmond (I think TJ Johnson has more upside as a C/G) Williams I think would definitely get taken, and he's a solid player. I don't think any of the others would get selected, but that would also depend on how thin the options are from the other teams. Bates being taken high and having promise as a FS makes that a negligible loss though.
