NBA 2k19 Franchise - Heat GM

Welcome to my NBA 2k19 GM Mode franchise.  I previously ran franchises in 2k18, 2k17, and 2k16. You can see them here:

Here are the rules I’ll be playing by to make things more interesting:

-          The regular seasons are way too long.  I will only be playing playoff games myself.  This means I could be potentially simming several seasons before I ever play a game.

-          I will only accept trade offers sent from the computer or offers from the computer in the trade block.  If I do manual trades its too easy to manipulate the computer into lopsided offers.

-          All draft classes will be auto generated.

-          I cannot trade for any picks after the lottery (so essentially I’ll never know the exact pick I’m trading for).

-          I will not trade UP in the draft ever.  Trading down is fine.  If I trade up a bunch of times and always land superstar players it makes the rebuild too easy.

-          I’ll be playing on Superstar difficulty with 6 minute quarters (set to alter stats to full minutes).  Simmed games are full 12 min quarters.

-          NEW RULE for this year, the game added MyGM difficulty settings.  I'll be playing on Hard (which is the hardest setting).

So you may be asking why do MyGM instead of just running a MyLeague?  I like the normal interactions with the owner and leveling my GM.  I understand that the leveling adds bonuses which help a lot, but that is why I’ve created so many rules to increase the difficulty.  Also having it on Hard balances out those bonuses.

Slider Settings

DEFAULT.  Seriously don't screw with the sliders, it messes everything up.

Team Selection

I have decided to start my franchise as the GM of the Miami Heat. The reason I'm choosing the Heat is because I don't care about keeping any of their roster, and I plan on replacing the entire roster with CPU generated players.

This team is a bunch of seriously overpaid role players.  I plan to completely blow up the roster, but moving some of these contract could prove difficult.

*TRADE*

LA Lakers Receive

C Hassan Whiteside (86)

PF Udonis Haslem (70)

Miami Heat Receive

SG Kentavious Caldwell Pope (74)

PF Michael Beasley (75)

Whiteside's contract makes him practically untradeable, but the Lebron led Lakers apparently think they can use him.  Pope and Beasley are on expiring contracts.

*TRADE*

Detroit Pistons Receive

SF Josh Richardson (82)

Miami Heat Receive

SF Stanley Johnson (74)

2019 Pistons 1st Round Pick (top 5 protected)

Stanley Johnson was the 8th pick in the 2015 draft, Josh Richardson went with the 10th pick in the 2nd round.  Johnson's a bust but gives me some young depth.  But this trade is all about adding that first.  Detroit will likely make the playoffs in the East, especially after adding Richardson, so this likely won't be a lottery pick.  Richardson was probably my most valuable trade asset.

I my MyCareer, I'm on the Pistons.  I've seen a lot of Stanley Johnson and he's so bad in this game.  He can barely even make layups.  It's mind blowing how terrible he is.  I honestly didn't see it coming.  But yea, he's really young and might turn into a decent player if he gets some decent progression.

*TRADE*

Brooklyn Nets Receive

PG Tyler Johnson (74)

2022 Nets 2nd Round Pick

Miami Heat Receive

PF Jared Dudley (73)

SF Treveon Graham (69)

Tyler Johnson's contract is ridiculous, and I don't feel bad dumping him on Brooklyn as they are responsible for his contract in the first place.  Dudley is on an expiring contract, and Graham is a VCU grad on a very reasonable 2 year contract.  I had to give up a 2nd, but its worth it to dump this contract.

*TRADE*

Miami Heat Receive

PG Markelle Fultz (74)

SG JJ Redick (79)

Philadelphia 76ers Receive

PG Goran Dragic (82)

SG Dwayne Wade (79)

I didn't really want to trade D Wade because I wanted him to retire a Heat (I guess he's left before anyways).  I didn't really want Redick either, but maybe I can flip him again before the trade deadline.  Fultz is the interesting pickup here, he's only 74 OVR but has A potential in the game still.  Dragis is a good pickup for the 76ers, he gives them a legit PG to run in their starting lineup.

*TRADE*

Miami Heat Receive

SF Troy Brown Jr. (71)

C Ian Mahinmi (C)

Washington Wizards Receive

SG Wayne Ellington (76)

C Kelly Olynyk (77)

This gives Washington another shooter off the bench in Ellington, and Olynyk is a better more versatile player than Mahinmi.  I get a young prospect in Troy Brown on a 4-year cheap contract, and Mahinmi has 1 less year on his deal than Olynyk.  I'll probably be able to move Mahinmi next year when he's on an expiring deal.

Ok that's the last deal I'm going to make for now, sorry for all the trades but I really wanted to blow it up.

*Free Agent Signing*

Signed PG Tyler Ennis (71) to a 1-year $2.25 mil deal.

I had no backup PG on the roster.

Also signed PG Briante Weber (70) to a 1-year $1.50 mil deal.

Former VCU player, good defender.

Ok so I'm still almost $9 mil over the cap for this year but I got rid of a ton of future cap in those trades.

2019 Heat 1st

2020 Heat 1st

2022 Heat 1st

2023 Heat 1st

I really need to add more picks.  I'll try to flip some more guys near the trade deadline.  Some of the guys I acquired like Redick and Beasley might be worth something.

Top 10 Prospects According to Draft Express - Year 1
DE Rank Position Name Age Height Weight Wingspan School Badges OVR Potential
1 SF/SG Allan Collins 20 6'10" 226 7'5" Rutgers 10 83 A
2 SG/PG Hasan Akyel 22 6'4" 200 6'8" Turkey 5 74*1 A-
3 PG Bo Walsh 20 6'2" 217 6'3" Memphis 6 73 A
4 SG Daniel Cobb 19 6'5" 231 6'8" West Virginia 5 73 A
5 PF/C Emanual Batistuta 19 6'9" 242 7'1" Spain 9 70*1 B
6 SG Bruce Hardaway 22 6'6" 206 6'7" Utah 5 75 B+
7 PG Wayne Padgett 22 6'0" 197 6'3" Louisville 4 74 B+
8 SG/SF Alvin Duncan 23 6'7" 219 6'11" Vanderbilt 4 78 B
9 SG/PG Giovenco Esposito 22 6'4" 204 6'11" Italy 3 69*3 B+
10 SG/PG Uwe Schumacher 20 6'4" 208 6'5" Germany 4 74 B

This is an OK first class.  Collins looks like a legitimate franchise player, with size and speed and tons of shooting potential.  Batistuta is the only big in the top 10, and he's an old school banger and somewhat undersized.  Then there's a ton of guards to choose from.

My tank is strong so far.  That Pistons pick would be a lottery pick right now, but I expect them to pick it up and still make the playoffs.  The Eastern Conference standings definitely have some surprises.  I'm going to make a few moves here at the deadline to try to get more picks.
