BDL Discussion Thread 2019

@Hockey5djh just a quick note on the schedule. I'm not fond of having all division games grouped in week 1 to 3. If you have suspended players or injuries at critical position you're basically screwed for half of your division game and that has a direct implication on the playoff race.

If possible, and of course if I'm not the only one feeling that way, I'd love to change that a bit next year and have divisional games every 2 weeks like it was the case before

Off the top of my head the easy fix is to switch the conference games to week 1 and 2, division games to 3, 4, and 5. I think I would like to leave the conference games at the end of the schedule though for playoff drama and such.

The only problem is that if someone is suspended 4 or 6 games you'd still be missing them for part or all of the division schedule.

I guess the better fix is don't sign scumbags and druggies.

Not all of us get handed Russell Wilson and Saquon Barkley. Choir boys from the 45th division Southern Methodist church on spring St in Bama.

Psh, I could have had Khalil Mack, Myles Garrett, and Andrew Luck.

Hell, if I waited it out I could have been the proud owner of the Orlando/Carolina/Lancaster team I helped build.

Instead, I made a market value deal for Wilson and didn't screw up the #1 pick.

Nope you whined for a QB. Your denial is a thing of beauty. Like the 8th wonder of the world.

OK ladies....third time's a charm right?

The deal:

Compton trades:
2.1 (#17 overall)
Jason Verrett
2019 3rd

Orlando Trades:
Russell Wilson

Comparables:
Dak (and Shaq Lawson)  for a Future 1st and a 3rd
Garapolo and a 6th  for a future 1st, a 4th, and Tyler Lockett
Brees went for a late 2nd and 3 cap dumps
Brady went for a late 2nd, a future 4th, and 4 cap dumps

Thought process. After failing the first couple times with trades featuring mid round picks we went back to the drawing board. After taking SirA's "two IRL firsts" under advisement (translation: two picks in the top 32) I took a look at all QB trades available to me. When using the common rule of thumb that future picks count as a round less in the current year (aka a future first is equivalent to a second round pick this year) the going rate for top QBs in the BDL seems to be a 2nd rounder plus, depending on the QB. There were really two "types" of trades, first was an elite QB on an expiring deal (Brady, Brees) Those players fetched a late second round pick and both deals featured 3+ cap dump players. The second type of deal was for that of a young talented QB, still on a cheap/rookie deal. These deals garnered a future first and a mid round considerations but did not come with the cap implications of the other trades. Wilson is somewhat unique from these two types of trades as he is both elite but also comes with a heavy contract. All of this information considered we decided to lead the deal with the best pick of the 4 comparable trades at pick 2.1. To make it even or better than the Garappolo and Dak trades we also included the future 3rd rounder. Also in light of the Brady and Brees trades we included one "cap dump" player, not multiple. This was done not to add player value but to make the large contract more tolerable. At the end of the day we did not meet SirA's request of "two IRL firsts" or two top 32 picks and the reason we didn't do that is because the market didn't call for such a high price tag. That said Footy will come out of this deal with pick #17 and a top 45 pick next year. Thanks for your consideration.

Why should I have paid more for Wilson again?

Back to this schedule thing....Its easy enough to change it but the question is "should we?" The beginning of the year your team should be the most healthy, I get the suspension argument but generally you have time to overcome those suspensions with FA and Shark Tank.
