Jets Sign Ryan Kalil

I am just trying to figure out what direction the Jets are going.  I rather get someone who will be with Darnold for a decade than a one year rental.  If Harrison was not cutting it and Ryan Kilal improves the position, fine.  I don't want Darnold running for his life.  I want sustainability for the OL and not a bunch of aging one year rentals.  That would be a same ol' Jets philosophy.

You should listen to the Khalil press conference if you haven't already. He talked to Joe D about team building and what it takes to build a winner. Khalil said the best teams he's been on are a mix of young players and veteran players. I got the impression Joe D has a similar philosophy. That's reading between the lines though. So, I can be wrong.

I'm thinking Joe D is going to just that. I'm expecting him to sprinkle in a few more veterans.

Building the OL is a piece by piece thing.

Within the next 2 years we should have a stout OL. Next years Draft is deep with OL from what I’ve seen and the year after as well.

The hope is Edoga working out are LT and maybe Shell takes a step under Pollack and becomes a consistent RT.

There is also some free agents who will break loose like La’el Collins. He can be a stud RT for us.

However the guys on the roster, particularly at Tackle, are more finesse than physical. Douglas seems to value those physical OL types so I think that plays a key in who he brings in.

Kalil is past his prime, but the center position is one where it is probably better to be somewhat lacking physically and have Kalil's mind for the game with all his experience.  If you have decent guards, you can hopefully mask his physical deficiencies for a year or two.

Osemele should be able to hold his own leaving Kalil and Winters to double the other DT.

Beachum should be fine, Shell is hit or miss.

The one thing we shouldn’t have to worry about now is bad snaps to Darnold slowing his reads down.

I don't know if we can count on Osemele for 14-16 games but he is dealing with inflammatory conditions.  300 lb and chronic inflammatory issue don't mix.
