theJ
Draft lottery time. I don't have any lottery picks, obviously. The Celtics have two. They ended up with picks 2 and 9. I predict they screw it up again, because they always do. The Hawks also have picks 4 and 5. We'll see what they're able to do. With Lebron James declining pretty severely, the Heat have the #1 pick. theJ
Before the draft moves: Coaches Status quo - just extending contracts Players Exercised Team Option on Gerald Gatson (3.77M) - DUH Exercised Team Option on Dana James (3.42M) - DUH Exercised Team Option on Marvin Flowers (1.58M) Declined Team Option on Edwin Soto (2.14M) - I was conflicted on this, but i think i can re-sign him for cheaper if i want, during FA. Honestly Marvin Flowers is basically as good as him. Declined Team Option on Harold Goodrich (629K) Qualifying Offer extended to Vin Hill (1 year, 4.56M) - DUH Qualifying Offer extended to Oliver Gatling (1 year, 1.13M)
theJ
Weird draft man. I didn't scout the top players, so i don't know what my scouts would have said. But to only have one A- potential player, and everyone worse than that...wow. I predict there won't be many stars to come out of this draft. The Celtics screwed up, as usual. The Hawks did ok, but missed on not taking Graves or Arthur or Wallgren. My picks were terrible. Armstrong and Purdue likely won't see their second year options picked up. Gaines will get two years to prove it. 2020-21 Draft Recap (Lottery Picks) Draft Pick Player Pos. theJ
With all the rookie deals i have, and the cheap deals i have on Sheridan and Bradford, i have a ton of cap space. 18M. I'll probably see if i can't find a PG with that cap space. Maybe i can one that's not a complete prick ala Lance O'Neal this time. One that will be happy with 12-15 mpg PT. theJ
One more interesting thing, this is the last year of Burke's and McGuire's deals. They're both telling me they want to explore FA next season. So i've got to be ready to spend 20M each on those guys. I signed them both when they were 91 OVR, so i'm expecting they'll want more this time. I can also try to re-sign Gatson and Dana James this season, if they're game. And Hill (in FA). Could be shelling out a lot for future contracts soon.
THE DUKE
You should have played up the Chad Elliott revenge angle in the finals more, especially when they were up 3-1. Fitting that Gatson sparks the turnaround and Elliott underachieves yet again! With Burke and McGuire getting new deals, it's time for you to either move on from one of them, or embrace cap hell and sign nothing but mid level exceptions from this point on. Or you could do the unthinkable and trade McGuire for a top young PG with potential and a draft pick, but I wouldn't do that. Goodman and Gatson showing quick dividends in the playing time you devoted to the young twin towers. Tbh I forgot about him as the series started because he was never at the top of the box score lol. Probably one of my worst signings. Guy could rebound, but that's about it. Re: future plans. I think I'm going to embrace cap hell. McGuire and Burke aren't really tradable with their salaries, and I really want to ride them out. So it's going to be stars and scrubs for me.
theJ
I am embracing cap hell, for sure. Free Agency Signed Vin Hill to a 4 year, 48.95M deal (with additional 1 year player option) Signed Oliver Gatling to a 2 year, 2.97M deal Training Camps Sent Oliver Gatling to Basketball 101, improved O and D awareness, hands by 4 points (now 57 OVR) Sent Marvin Flowers to Perimeter Defense, improved On-Ball D and Steal 6 points, now 62 OVR Season Starts - FA pickup Signed Jake Tate to 1 year, 2.76M deal (69 OVR PG) The Vin Hill deal doesn't put me over the cap. But the next big deal will. The Tate deal gives me a good 1 year option at backup PG. He's a good defender and ball handler, passable passer. Pun intended. And only 27 years old. Might be able to re-sign him on a MLE deal next season, if needed.

THE DUKE
That's a championship roster though, with two of the top 10 players in the league, a good role player in Hill, and two up and coming star big men. Even have a decent bench to go 8 deep and with a passable 9th man.

When i go through the Top 25 tonight i'll post a few of the other top rosters to give an indication of my competition for the season. There are likely 2-3 more teams with a similar top end roster that should give me a run for my money.
