Titans PFF Grades at the Bye

Take these with a giant grain of salt cause PFF and all, but the grades for our major contributors are as follows:

QB - Mariota 83.0 overall grade(8th out of 34 QBs)

RB - Murray 73.1(27th out of 53 RBs), Henry 58.4(43rd)

FB - Fowler 46.4(15th out of 20 FBs)

WR - Matthews 79.0(23rd out of 115 WRs), Taylor 65.4(65th) Decker 60.0(72nd)

TE - Walker 83.2(5th out of 66 TEs), Smith 44.2(57th), Supernaw doesn't have the snaps to qualify but he grades out at 44.8 which would be 53rd

OT - Lewan 82.0(8th out of 74 Ts), Conklin 70.7(33rd), Kelly doesn't have the snaps to qualify but he grades out at 53.1 which would be 48th

OG - Kline 81.4(12th out of 78 Gs), Spain 63.0(32nd), Schwenke doesn't have the snaps to qualify but he grades out at 68.6 which would be 31st

C - Jones 72.4(11th out of 35 Cs)

Some notes I've observed over the past few weeks while checking on their grades for the offense:

Mariota at 83 is confusing to me as these past two weeks are his first two games of the season where he graded above 75. I guess recent performance holds more weight over past, not entirely sure.

Conklin has been battling back from his awful opener all season. For the first couple weeks he was at the bottom of the tackle grades, but has made decent gains in their grades each week. If he keeps on his current pace, should be back in the top 15 before the season is up.

Spain has also fluctuated heavily which again makes me wonder how their grading system works. He's been as high as top 10 and as low as 60th(that I can recall). Not sure the deal there.

As for the defense:

DL - Casey 84.0(22nd out of 121), Jones 81.1(27th), Klug 72.4(76th), Johnson 71.4(82nd), Williams 50.5(101st)

ILB - Williamson 81.4(15th out of 100), Woodyard 77.0(29), Brown 45.0(59th)

Edge - Orakpo 79.6(31st out of 106), Morgan 75.5(48th), Walden 57.8(82nd)

CB - Ryan 78.2(46th out of 112), Sims 62.7(74th), Jackson 59.8(76th), McCain 47.1(88th)

S - Byard 88.0(5th out of 85..as a note they have Vaccaro as the 109th ranked safety and last on the list, but the guy before him is Peppers at 85th..so I'll stick with 85), Searcy 49.3(63rd), Riley 46.6(66th)

Where do I even begin on their defensive grades?

Casey at 84.0 being only 22nd probably looks weird to you, and maybe you think I made a typo and he's actually 12th, but PFF has 19 defensive linemen at 85+(which is just a tier below elite for them) and 36 at 80+(considered above average), and 83 at 70 or above(considered average).

As for ILB you're probably as astounded as I am that Woodyard, the guy they've been advertising as a top 5 ILB the past couple weeks(and I can confirm he was their 5th rated ILB coming in to the game vs Cleveland) dropped all the way to 29th..and Williamson, who has spent most of this season placed around 40th to 50th has all of the sudden shot up to 15th.

Cornerback is another weird position. They have 38 players at 80+, and 66 at 70+.

Safety also has apparently 53 players in the league playing at least at an average level(70+) and 26 at an above average level(80+).

So take from these grades what you will, but I think it highlights a lot of the issues people see with PFF grading.

I can't believe I never posted in this.

Marcus being eighth is a big surprise. Not that he's necessarily been bad, but I feel like PFF has graded him fairly harshly in the past, so to see him that high is impressive.

Not surprised by the running backs. Henry's blocking/receiving grades are going to drop him and Murray clearly hasn't been healthy for a long time.

Would have guessed slightly higher on Taylor.

Line is all over the place.
