This is my understanding, but Joyner for whatever reason has almost always been pigeon holed into a NCB role. Coming out of FSU he screamed FS to me, had that very solid year with the Rams as a FS. Raiders and early in his Rams career, I believe he played a lot more CB.

I think the Jets were going to let him run it as a safety, but admittedly haven’t kept up.

I felt the same thing! This decision to play him as a slot CB was based on height/weight/speed, but his instincts and perception were best suited as a deep S.

Oh well, hope he gets another crack at it, but we'll see.
