But my point was that the Bulldogs view him mainly as a run stuffer.  I am not sure if he played in the 2nd 1/2 of that game.

That’s fair. They maximized his current skill set all last year, and did so in relation to the skill sets of their other defensive studs. It worked. Their coach gave his team their best chance to win. They did that on first and second down on defense and had a good ball control offense. They got leads and didn’t need their penetrating run specialist much. Their coach kinda out physical’d a Saban team.  But it’s not like he didn’t penetrate the backfield or got zero pressures like a Hampton or was poor at moving forward in gaps.

And the Steelers should be gun shy and more prudent after the McCullers debacle. JD’s biggest enemy probably is himself.  A guy that big and quick twitchy and new to football isn’t gonna have the great endurance. He’s probably never jogged 2 miles in his life, lol. He’s gotten by with good but raw coaching and athleticism. In the pros, he’s gonna have to work hard.

They used him in the title game and he about caused a sack for defensive td. It was so quick when he ragdolled that Heisman qb that nobody knew what just happened until replay. Hampton never had a play like that.  I don’t know what his ceiling is. But his floor is high.

That isn’t just a 2 gapping NT. That’s a DT—NT twist/stunt. Damn near a straight line to the QB. Brady, the goat, hates pressure in his face. Manning in Denver got obliterated by Seattle’s dtackles in that SB because they pushed guards and the center into where he wanted to step up. This guy tested better than some of the best 3techniques that have ever played football. It would be foolish to ignore him. It would be just dumb as all hell to ignore him when we will be in dire need of both a nose tackle and at least one highly talented 3 Techniques in a year or 2 anyways.

Right now he is a 2 down, 2-0 technique, run stuffer that gets gassed, with an occasional bull rush or burst through an a gap. He might never be a great 3 technique, but damn can he flash as being a 2 gap wall, or a rare straight line cannon ball. He can move down the line impressively too. His get off is too slow when he’s gassed and 360 pounds is too much for a tall 3T. Pro double teams will kick his ***, but he can keep our ILBs pretty clean. I probably wouldn’t trade up for him, if I knew Tuitt was coming back but I’d rather do that than reach for a risky qb. Ideally, the best thing we could do, is to trade back, imo.
