Looking to next year, this article deals with expiring contracts for 2023. It's worth noting that many expiring contracts are set up that ay, ie one year contracts.

Gronk is (supposedly) retiring. It gets him out of Kelce's way for some career numbers.

My thoughts on this:

The estimated 2023 salary cap is $225mil

As of today, the Chiefs are sitting at ~210.6mil with 43 players under contract. This is before re-signing Brown or anyone else. I expect Clark to either be cut or potentially extended to lower his cap significantly. With a cut, we sit at ~189.6mil with 42 players under contract. I fully expect that Jones will be extended or traded as well to lower his cap hit. If he were to be cut, which I really don't expect, we're at ~169.6mil with 41 players under contract (including Clark cut).

We're looking at one more year of big turnover. Mahomes next "core" team really starts next season imo. We are currently projected to have 12 draft picks next year so getting younger and cheaper is still the plan.

These are the biggest salary cap hits for next offseason. No surprise about Mahomes and Jones. Butker surprised me.

This article has the headline, The Chiefs' Biggest Question for 2022 Isn't What You'd Expect. I don't know about you, but the biggest question I have been asking is exactly what the article suggests, ie how much and how fast does the defense improve?

https://fivethirtyeight.com/ is a number crunching site, famous for its founder Nate Silver. He's a stats-man who made his name in the political arena, but he's also a sports buff.

Here is their NFL page. Chiefs start the season as #4, well back for mthe Bills,, but in a tight group with GB and TB. The initial lines is 8% chance to win it all.

It's the bye week and we are 5-2, about what we hoped. This article is a look at the rest of the schedule. First team back is the Titans. Others of note the Bengals, Chargers, and Seahawks.

I would've signed up for 5-2 when the schedule came out. Should be easier moving forward with 4 division games remaining
