I'm thinking Martinez is going to wind up in a position change. I'll have to look closer at him but he seemed to be more of a runner than a passer.

He was a good runner and a great athlete but was never a good QB.  I could see him as X-Receiver, H-Back or pass-catching TE.

He had a 64.5% completion rate on basically 50% of Hooker's attempts. If he's going to play QB at the NFL level, he's going to need a lot of work.

He has a 9.45 RAS as a QB.

  • 6.46 at WR
  • 7.57 at TE
  • 8.02 at RB
  • 9.33 at FB

I can see him being on the PS as a QB while getting work in as a WR/TE-H. If he can't progress at QB, then we'll hear of a formal position change .

I can only tell you that after 49 games he never really shook his inconsistencies.  This isn't a Russel Wilson situation.  You could call him enigmatic or inconsistent but if that hasn't gone away after 50 games, it isn't likely to get better.  He has never thrown for more than 17 TDs in one season and only threw 6 in his final season:

Martinez doesn't really have an NFL future to me but he could be useful on the practice squad. They might also like what he brings to the table from a mental point of view. Some guys just get the position/game and that can be useful to have around.

He's athletic enough to kind of mimic the playstyle of the mobile passers we're going to come up against albeit not nearly as successfully. I imagine we'd definitely keep Sudfeld but maybe he has a spot if Hooker isn't healthy to start the season.

He is a really good athlete and could be a contributor at another position.  It will be interesting to see what the Lions decide to do with him.

Being in Omaha and about 40 minutes from Memorial Stadium I have seen too much of Martinez. I can't stand the Huskers but Frosts downfall was sticking with Martinez as long as he did. He is horrible decision maker.

I can't really believe that Brad Holmes and company want the fate of a playoff game to reside on the leg of Michael Badgely.
