Wasn’t even the best safety on the roster last season.

So Peppers is the guy now. I'm glad to hear that. DR. Jabril™ ( @DizzyDean ) was always a guy on the Browns who seemed close to breaking out but just didn't while he was there.

Also, no, they just match whatever he can find in FA. Don’t have to beat it.

🥔-🥔

I mean, well, they have to tie with the top offer so they also have to give the top offer in that scenario.

Best players on the team last season (excluding healthy Judon and Gonzalez) were Peppers and Barmore. Easily.

I forgot about Barmore. He's legit.

Y'all still have Mac locked down for one more year. Don't worry your pretty regular-sized head about that.

But also, you know the team best: is Dugger not that good or do you mean there's a star I'm missing?

Dugger isn’t that good. Maybe in the right scheme or specifically as a line of scrummage safety/backer he is worth it but even in that role Peppers was better.

Not to mention Rhondre Stevenson, Zeke Elliott, Michael Onwenu, David Andrews, Hunter Henry, Demario Douglas, Anfernee Jennings, their linebackers, and several other defensive backs all played at the same level as Dugger.

Eh, we part minds there, lol.

I like those guys but would only put Onwenu and Andrews at that level. Stevenson if he can turn it back to 2022, but pending.

Yup, Peppers showed up last season. Who knows if that continues or not, but I believe he was the best run defending safety in the league last year. Dugger’s probably a little better taking the ball away in the back end. They’re similar players, but Peppers for sure outplayed him in 2023.

I think Dugger’s a good player, though. Not top of the market good, but definitely a guy you’re happy with starting.

It sets the starting point for the APY @ $13.8M rather than $17.1M. They don’t have to beat, they just need to match.

Hmm. It doesn't seem worth the risk to potentially lose their guy, but it sounds more and more like maybe they might just not sign him.

Ouch. And here I was about to do the big reveal that I'm actually Kyle Dugger and have been here posting this entire time to experience how it is to be one of you smallfolk. Now things are getting kinda awkward. Anyone else you gotta tell me is better than me.

TL;DR Kyle Dugger is no Matthew Slater skddh

😍

Would you just let Dugger walk instead of tagging? That seems like a lot of money for a guy you're not high on.

I would work on a contract with Dugger like they have and it wont be what he wants so I would let him walk and take the comp pick in 2025. Now they don’t get one.

Why wouldn't they get one if another team signs him?

if they still do then good but it’s hard to keep up with the Kardashian’s

Kardashians = 49ers with their minority coach hire pipeline to compensatory picks

Tbh I hate how the NFL has tags in general.

IMO teams need some advantage for their home grown players. Given the hard cap, this one isn't even really much of an advantage. These days it's a virtual guarantee that the franchise tag overpays someone.

In the other major sports you can maneuver around the cap to accomplish this (keep your free agents).

The transition tag is a nothing burger really....he'll get the contract he'll get either way.
