Dave's UFL thread 2024!

Recommended Posts

I am lazy as hell, and don't update the updates until the next week.

Week 3:

Amari Rodgers:  4 punt returns 41 yards

Jace Sternberger:  4 receptions 71 yards 1 TD

Jonathan Garvin:  3 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 FF, 1 TFL

Danny Etling:  3 rushes 13 yards

Sal Canella:  4 receptions 48 yards, 2 point conversion

Darrius Sheppard:   3 receptions 19 yards, 5 kick returns 149 yards, 2 punt returns 37 yards

Alize Mack:  1 reception 2 yards 1 TD, 1 tackle

This was a close race between Garvin and Sternberger this week.  I am going to give the defense some love, not a ton of multi-sack games in this league, and he forced a fumble.  The X(FL) Packer of week 3 is Jonathan Garvin!

Wilkins takes a bad sack, OL didn't even get out of their stance.  Then they let the play clock run down.  Then Becht takes a time out on 3rd and 22. Just take the penalty and save your time out.

I skipped the UFL for the last couple of weeks, NFL draft and otherwise busy.  BUT Packers Legend Manny Wilkins is starting QB for the Battlehawks this week.

KA-KAW!

I forgot that Manny Wilkins can't throw.

According to James Larsen, who covers the United Football League for Pro Football Newsroom, the Green Bay Packers will have a workout with DC Defenders guard Liam Fornadel at some point this week. While Fornadel wasn’t named on the All-UFL team that featured three former Packers, he was an All-XFL guard for the 2023 season — prior to the XFL and USFL merging to make the UFL.

Some Packers updates:

Sal Canella led the league in TDs with 6, and was the league's second leading scorer.

Darrius Shepherd had the second highest all purpose yards.

Jace Sternberger had 4 TDs, and a whopping 18.2 yards per catch.

Shepard by all accounts was extremely quick to pick up the play book and must have been a beast in practice. We kept him over Lazard who also looked very good in the preseason . Luckily Lazard stuck on the PS and we corrected our mistake after it became apparent Shepard was not built to run with NFL caliber athletes.

Sal Canella, I figured he could open up a deli in Jersey if the football thing didn’t work out. Good on him for keeping the dream alive before gettin into the cold cuts game.

I like Darius Shepherd, he is probably an AAAA player.  He was the special teams player of the year in the XFL last season, and watching Battlehawks games, he is an extension of the running game.  Most of the UFL teams don't have good offensive lines, it is an unfortunate side effect of the lower league.  They would give Shepherd a lot of 4 yard passes to supplement a less than stellar running game. Having watched him in 2 preseasons in GB, and 2 seasons for the Battlehawks, I see a really good football player, who is just slightly not good enough as an athlete to cut it at the very top level.  And when he is competing against other players right on that fringe, he looks very much like a star.

And I would 100% buy a sandwich from Sal Canella's bakery.
