You could also use this years trade MN made to get Turner.  They gave up 23, a 5th (167) and a 2025 3rd and 4th to move up to 17 so we moved up for much less than that. MN also gave up a 4th and 5th with 11 to get pick 10 and a 6th back so they gave the same value we did to move up 1 spot.  So the value even in the same year can be cherry picked to fit your narrative.  Some of the cost depends on who is available.  Some of the cost is where you are moving up to (17 is more expensive than 24 which is also more expensive than 28).  Some of the cost is dependent on who you are trading with. The Bills obviously were more willing to move down than the Cowboys or Jaguars were.

Moving into top 20 is a lot different and should cost more.

Consider the following:  The Chiefs traded 29, 94 and 121 to the Patriots in exchange for pick 21 which they used to select Trent McDuffie. The Chiefs have won the Super Bowl two years in a row and Trent McDuffie made All Pro in his second season. Meanwhile, the Patriot put together seasons of 8-9 and 4-13. They selected Cole Strange with Pick 29. The rest of their 2022 draft class is WR Tyquan Thorton, CB Marcus Jones, CB Jack Jones, RB Pierre Strong, QB Bailey Zappe, RB Kevin Harris, DT Sam Roberts, OC Chasen Hines and OT Andrew Stueber. Does it seem like the Patriots got better value than the Chiefs?

I am not missing your point.  Your point is not relevant.  The same trade processes and value assignments that were in place in 2022 are pretty much still in place.  I would go even further to say that a lot of folks who talk about the "value" of trading back never really take into account the impact, or the lack thereof, of the players that are taken lower.  Do you think the Patriots are looking at this trade now and thinking that it has been awesome for them?

I keep forgetting that the Lions drafted this guy.  Thanks a lot for making Caleb Williams' job even harder this year (and it's not like you were exactly a pushover before that)!  The Lions are going to have a beastly defense in 2024.

The Bears are no joke.  Your defense gave the Lions a lot of problems last year.  The offense may take some time to start clicking but when it does it is going to be pretty good.  The Lions and Bears are going to have some really tough battles over the next 2-3 years.
