For an explanation on why I'm recruiting the defense the way that I am, let me explain the weird defensive set that I use:

      FS           SS

          MLB   LOLB   Backup SS

CB2   CB3   ROLB   NT   LE       CB1

I almost exclusively run this Dime set out of the 3-4 multiple playbook.  It has two Dlineman, the ROLB comes up and plays with his hand in the dirt.  There are 3 CBs and two linebackers in coverage.  If the offense comes out in a 3 WR set or less, the Backup SS stays back like an additional Linebacker.  If there are 4 or more WRs in the set, the Backup SS moves to this:

      FS           SS

          MLB   LOLB

CB2   CB3   ROLB   NT   LE   Backup SS   CB1

So you can see the Backup SS is a very important versatile piece in my defense.  I need to recruit a guy that can essentially play corner and tackle like a linebacker.  You can also see that the RE position is virtually worthless to me.  I essentially need a ROLB that plays like a RE.  However, there are times the ROLB drops back in coverage, so that position needs to be versatile too.  The ROLB is extremely important to my pass rush.  Also, the NT is really the only true run stuffer on the field so I need a guy that can eat up a lot of space.

I run this defensive set because the majority of the teams in the game run a no huddle offense that doesn't let you substitute players and this is a very versatile scheme.

I got absolutely demolished in this game.  I’m not exaggerating, they scored on every single drive.  I couldn’t stop them no matter what I did.  I scored zero sacks, zero turnovers, and pretty much didn’t make an impact play on defense for 4 quarters.

On offense I was having decent luck running on them early but fell behind and had to abandon the run.  Freshman QB Cobbs passing yards look impressive but most of them came during garbage time when the game was already over.  I couldn’t score points when I needed to.  I threw 3 INTs in the game too, but two of them came off of tipped passes that my god awful WRs dropped.  They also dropped 3 surefire TDs in the endzone.

Sorry I forgot to take a picture this week.

I had two recruits visit this week (crap).

Wow this was a wild game.  First play of the game I hit WR19 for a 74 Touchdown, and I’m like alright maybe this is going to be a good game.  Then I threw 2 picks in the first quarter, and was down 28-14 at halftime.  They were just demolishing me.  Suddenly my defense decided to start making stops and my QB was throwing dimes to everyone and boom I’m back in it.  This was a great victory.

I think I finally found one of my WRs that can actually catch.  WR19 will be my go to guy for the rest of the season.  Air Force was the first team that was able to hold HB E Miller in check (somewhat).  I struggled running the ball early on and was only able to get it going near the end when I was running the clock out.

That’s 6 wins now, a big step up from last year’s 2.

*WR19 goes 74 yards to the house.

Recruiting News

I signed the following recruits this week:

4 Star (27) WR Brandon O’Connor – 77 OVR

3 Star (754) MLB Derrick Dortch – 69 OVR

2 Star (1548) FB Michael Russell – 65 OVR

Signing O’Connor is a big get, another big time recruit (#27 in the nation) and he’ll bring some speed to my Wring core.  Dortch is solid and, getting Russell is great cause signing any FB is always difficult (there aren’t enough of them so everyone fights over them).  I’ve now signed 10 recruits.

I’m not really sure what happened in this game.  I was playing when the Alex Smith trade news hit, and everything is kind of a blur.  I won?  I’m not really sure how.  They ran all over me, but couldn’t throw.  Funny enough Redskins QB draft pick Nate Sudfield was their QB.  They have a good team but I won.  Again, kind of trade rage blacked out.  Sorry.

Forgot to take a picture too.
