Phire
Quote The Eagles reworked the contract of defensive end Brandon Graham, who can now earn an additional $1.5 million over the next two seasons through incentives and escalators, an NFL source said. ESPN was first with the report and provided more detail. Graham’s base salary remains at $6.5 million for the next two years, but he can increase his pay by reaching certain sack totals and by making the Pro Bowl or the all-pro team. Graham had his best season in 2016 and was a second team all-pro. He notched only 5-1/2 sacks, though. If he records more than seven sacks and fewer than nine in 2017, he’ll earn $250,000. If he finishes with more than nine sacks, he’ll collect another $250,000. If Graham falls short of nine sacks but is voted to the Pro Bowl or named first- or second-team all-pro, he’ll still get that $250,000. He has extra incentive to perform this season because his 2017 numbers and end-of-the-season honors could affect how much more he can make in 2018. If Graham notches seven or eight sacks, his 2018 salary will increase by $250,000; nine to 11 sacks, $500,000; and 12 or more sacks, $750,000. And if he makes the Pro Bowl or the all-pro team, his salary jumps an additional $250,000.
Bednarik60
That is awesome, not the most exciting move but a very smart move, Graham has been playing with a lot of passion and intensity, now you lay a million plus on the table for him to go get. Love if he could scrap out 9 sacks and make that $500k.

Phire
The sack totals are a decently high bar for Graham, but hopefully this can motivate him further or at the minimum keep him happy and a chance to earn some money.
nlesthought
We know with his history he'll give the effort. Unfortunately he doesnt have a spin move or something other than the bull rush. He's going to need it to reach those numbers. EDIT: Maybe he'll get a couple more of those direct line unblocked if Schwartz decides to bring a little more pressure

I specifically remember him dominating the Senior Bowl and it being noted how polished of a pass rusher he was.

Another coincidence Blount played on that North team. Too bad I don't recognize none of the OTs on either of those Senior Bowl rosters today. Press man with safeties over the top, QBs have to hold it for at least another tick. Even still BG doesn't come off the edge in that way that could get him around the edge. Its jack the tackle backwards get inside

I never really understood "adding" to a contract with nothing in return for teams. That said Graham has never reached more than 6.5 sacks in a season. Hopefully this extra potential for 1.5 mil more on top of his other 26 mil motivates him enough to turn some of those hurries into sacks in the next couple seasons. Production isn't a return for the team? That is the trade here, we pay you more money, if you get more sacks, both sides win if he does get more sacks. Hockey5djh
Then what was the initial 26 mil for? Just to show up? I'm not against the concept, I just don't really understand it. My best guess is that he complained about Curry's contract compared to his and they threw him a bone.
Phire
They get a happier employee in return and hopefully added motivation to reach some goals.
Jlash
In terms of average yearly salary for defensive ends, Graham was tied for 21st in the league. So it's not like he was getting paid a crazy amount to begin with. If 1.5 million somehow magically gets him to double digit sacks I'm sure they'll be ok with that investment.
