more than 25 players 90+ is crazy!

Ya they made a shift to lowering OVRs a few years ago, like the best player in the current NBA (Lebron) was only a 95 OVR.  This pushed everyone down, so a decent starter was like a 80 OVR.  The did this because the added historic teams to the game, so someone like Michael Jordan was supposed to be the only 99 OVR.

They seemed to have moved away from that this year.  Players are back in the high 90s again, and a decent starter is more like a 85 OVR this year.

Im not sure which I like more. I like the way fifa does it but I don't play fifa. I think lebron should be 97-99 now because he is one of the goats, but I like having a gap. The badges helps with that

Ya I agree.  Could be the sliders I have set, but the only progression one I changed was I lowered regression due to age to 30 (default is 50).  If I was to do it again I'd probably set it at 40, Lebron as a 98 OVR at 37 years old is kind of pushing it.

Yeah I agree. Why don't you just change it now?

Top 10 Prospects According to Draft Express - Year 6
DE Rank Position Name Age Height Weight Wingspan School Badges OVR Potential
1 PG Wally Hoffman 22 6'3" 206 6'6" Kentucky 8 79 A+
2 SF Jess Bailey 22 6'7" 224 6'10" Richmond 5 78 B

10 PG Benjamin Carlisle 21 6'1" 182 6'2" Kansas St 6 67 C

This is a really good class for my needs.  I haven't been able to land a stud Center and there are several in this top 10.  Wade bass is the stand out, with A+ potential and great size.  He's more of an interior scorer though and will need to work on his rebounding and defense.  Reminds me of Jerry Swift from my Nets franchise in 2k17.  Johnnie Reeves is the more traditional interior defensive presence and rebounder.

All Star Break Update – Year 6

What a train wreck.  I have no idea what’s going on, I’m a pathetic 16-37, dead last in the West, and 10.5 games behind the 8th placed team.  I essentially have no chance of making the playoffs once again, and somehow my team is worse than before.  This makes no sense to me.

On top of all of that, my players are starting to demand new contracts.  My backup SF Carson Harrison, who’s only an 84 OVR is demanding a 3-year $84.14 mil contract, which is crazy.  My starting SG Wally Hayes (84 OVR) also wants a 3-year $73.26 mil contract extension.  These guys want a ton of money and they are just role players.  My backup SG Chris Fordham is scoring more points per game than Hayes, and Harrison is a defensive specialist that can’t shoot.  I can’t pay those guys that much money.

Then there’s starting PG Mark Carpenter (86 OVR) who wanted a 4-year $125 mil extension.  When I lowballed him back at 4-year $80 mil, he decided that he refuses to re-sign with the Grizzlies.

I’m in Year 6 and I’m still one of the worst teams in the NBA.  These players that I’ve assembled suck, and now want to get paid like superstars.  I can’t believe I’m going to have to do this, but I’m going to have to do a mini-rebuild on this roster.  The roster as currently constructed isn’t working.

*TRADE*

Los Angeles Lakers Receive

PF Ivan Rabb (84)

2024 Grizzlies First Round Pick (top 3 protected)

Memphis Grizzlies Receive

SF/SG Julian McCaw (79)

PF Oscar Geiger (67)

SF/SG Julian McCaw was the 6th overall pick in this past class, he’s 6’9” with a 7’3” wingspan, has 85 SPD, 87 ACC and 84 lateral quickness, and he has A+ potential.  PF Oscar Geiger isn’t just a throw in either, he’s only a 67 OVR, but he has A+ potential as well.  Both are on cheap 4-year rookie contracts too.

Rabb wasn’t part of my long term plans so giving him up isn’t a big deal.  The 2024 pick I gave up isn’t this upcoming draft but the next one, and the way my record has been this could definitely end up a high pick.  But I did get it Top 3 protected and I think I’m getting two premium prospects in return.  Besides, I’m probably going to have a ton of picks after the rest of the moves I make.

*TRADE*

Indiana Pacers Receive

SF Carson Harrison (83)

2024 Grizzlies 2nd Round Pick

Memphis Grizzlies Receive

PF Noah Vonleh (79)

2023 Pacers 1st Round Pick (Top 3 protected)

Harrison wasn’t going to come back on a reasonable deal and his contract was expiring.  My owner was demanding that I acquire another first round pick in this upcoming draft (I only had one) so this fulfills his request.  Vonleh is on an expiring contract.

*TRADE*

Dallas Mavericks Receive

PG Mark Carpenter (86)

Memphis Grizzlies Receive

PG Greg Adkins (86)

Screw Carpenter.  He was supposed to be the face of my franchise, instead he consistently got injured, never developed into a passer, and whined about his contract.  Greg Adkins has one more year on his rookie deal, won ROTY his first year in the league and is a pass first PG.  He has the Flashy Passer, Lob City Passer, Pick and Roll Maestro, Ankle Breaker, Break Starter, Catch & Shoot, Corner Specialist, Defensive Stopper, Dimer and One Man Fast Break badges!  Pretty much all the ideal badges for a Guard.  I hope he can run my offense a lot better than Carpenter ever did.  His only downside is that he has A potential instead of Carpenter’s A+ potential, but Carpenter hasn’t developed anyways so I don’t see that as an issue.

End of the Season – Year 6

Final Record 25-57, or 15th in the West and 30 games behind first place.  I lost 9 more games than last year for reasons I can’t define.

Season Stats

Season Stats - Year 6
Points Per Game Rebounds Per Game Assists Per Game Steals Per Game Blocks Per Game
PF Jud Stafford 13.9 PF Jud Stafford 7.0 PG Greg Adkins 8.1 PG Greg Adkins 1.4 C Josh George 1.4
SG Wally Hayes 13.3 C Josh George 6.7 SG Wally Hayes 2.6 SF Jamaal Elliot 0.8 PF Jud Stafford 1.2
SG Chris Fordham 12.8 SF Jamaal Elliot 5.0 PF Jud Stafford 2.3 SG Wally Hayes 0.8 C Edgar Henderson 0.6

PF Jud Stafford is my best player.  PG Greg Adkins assists look a lot better, but he doesn't get as many steals as Carpenter did.  Center Josh George's blocks were up but he still doesn't get anywhere near the rebounds a starting Center should get.  I don't have a primary scorer either.  I'm surprised how little of an impact SF Jamaal Elliot makes in the games.  Maybe McCaw should get a chance to start.

Draft Lottery

nba-draft-lottery3.jpg

I only have one lottery pick this year, my own which is the #2 best odds.  The top 5 odds are:

1.       Heat (25.0%)

2.       Grizzlies (19.9%)

3.       Raptors (15.6%)

4.       Kings (11.9%)

5.       Spurs (8.8%)

Who’s it going to be…..

The lottery held form all the way up to the top 3.  The Raptors have the 3rd pick, the Heat have the 2nd pick, and I won the lottery.  I also have the 21st pick in the draft via the Pacers.

I think I’m going to waive my rule that I won’t draft top 5 picks.  It isn’t working so I need to try something different.  If I land the #1 overall pick in a draft that has a 90+ OVR player in it I will pass on that player so as not to make things too easy, but I’m going to start taking players in the top 5.

2023 NBA Draft

NBA_Draft_logo_(no_year).png

Draft Picks

Round 1 – 1 overall

Round 1 – 21 overall

I need a star player.  My team doesn’t have one.  There are two players with A+ potential in this draft, here they are:

PG Wally Hoffman

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
1 PG Wally Hoffman 6'3" 206 6'6" Kentucky 79 A+

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
B C A- D- B- A D B+ B+

Hoffman is the highest rated prospect in the draft according to DraftExpress.  He has decent athleticism with 86 SPD, 83 ACC and 82 lateral quickness; however these are definitely not elite.  He’s a really good passer and one of the best shooters in the draft.  He’s an adequate perimeter defender.  He has the Acrobat, Dimer, Flashy Passer, Lob City Passer, and Pick & Roll Maestor badges.

C Wade Bass

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
3 C Wade Bass 7'0" 267 7'6" Temple 78 A+

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
B+ B F C+ D+ C- B- B- C-

Bass has great length with a 7’6” wingspan. He’s an average rebounder and his interior defense will need some work.  His Strength rating at 67 OVR is also not ideal.  He does have a decent mid-range shot, and pretty good basketball IQ rating.  He’s a very good interior scorer for a rookie big man prospect.  He has the Drop-Stepper, Hustle Rebounder, One Man Fast Break, Pick & Popper, Pick & Roller, Post Spin Technician, Putback King, Tear Dropper, and Up & Under Specialist badges.

I’m not going to make the same mistake I made in my first draft.  I don’t plan on building this team around a PG.  Bass isn’t the defensive/rebounding monster I’d like to have at Center, but he should develop there.  It’s possible he leads my team in scoring as a rookie, and should play the Pick and Roll with my new PG Greg Adkins well.

With the 1st pick in the NBA draft the Memphis Grizzlies select:

C Wade Bass, Temple

d3lERLE.jpg

He’s the best Center prospect I’ve had on my team through 6 seasons.

The Heat select Hoffman #2.  Time to sim to my next pick.  These are the best players available at 21:

PF Andor Dugonics

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
15 PF Andor Dugonics 6'10" 236 7'5" Hungary 70 C+

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
D+ C- F C+ D+ D+ C+ C C

I really don’t need another PF prospect, but Dugonics has good size and interesting athleticism for his position.  He has 85 SPD, which is the fastest player left on the board in this draft class.  He’s very raw though, not particularly good at anything, doesn’t have high potential, and will be in Europe for a year before he comes over.  He also doesn’t have any badges.

SG Norm Slaughter

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
23 SG Norm Slaughter 6'5" 189 6'11" Maryland 65 B-

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
D+ B- B- D- D C- D D+ C-

He’s a decent shooter and has great length for his position.  His 74 SPD and 80 ACC aren’t ideal but are passable.  He’s also a terrible defender.   He would need a lot of work, he’d probably only be a scorer and he’s not an elite scoring prospect.  He doesn’t have any badges.

C Peter Lowry

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
23 C Peter Lowry 7'2" 302 7'7" Wake Forest 69 C+

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
D D- F C+ D- D B+ D+ D+

Another Center?  Well I’m probably going to let Henderson walk in free agency, and Josh George will probably complain that he’s not starting anymore with Bass around, so a backup Center could be a real need.  Lowry is massive, and a good rebounder which I really need.  He also has the Brick Wall, Bruiser and Hustle Rebounder badges, were are pretty ideal for a backup Center.

With the 21st pick in the NBA draft the Memphis Grizzlies select:

C Peter Lowry, Wake Forest

7IZmHVC.jpg

Massive rebounding prospect.

Another draft done, I got a lot bigger after this one.  Bass and Lowry should help improve the weakest position on my team.

*UPDATE*

Bass is only a 76 OVR, but does have A+ potential.

Lowry has B+ potential.
