For a team like the Saints I think even a first would be worth sending for Jimmy.

If he leads them to the NFC Championship or Super Bowl are they really going to keep him and bench him for a guy with three starts over the last 2.5 years? I think they'd be better suited to trade him in the off-season to get additional draft assets. If they want an insurance policy behind Lance they can sign someone like Andy Dalton, Tyrod Taylor, Jacoby Brissett, or Teddy Bridgewater. If they go with Lance then they don't have to move him immediately. A QB who went 31-14 and also went on 2 playoff runs for your team is a hell of an insurance policy. Philly had no choice but to choose on Wentz and Foles because Foles was about to get paid and Wentz was also about to get paid. Wentz also played like an MVP in starts 17-29 at that point. I don't think that they gave up what they did for Jimmy to be the starter next season, especially playing on a one year deal. Because as you said a team could get desperate and make a move for him but what if no one does? They have to just let him walk for nothing when they could've traded him for a 1st/2nd? The Philly situation is different though, Foles was a journeyman backup that got hot for a stretch after Wentz went down. The 49ers gave up multiple 1sts to move up for Lance. You can have any opinion you want on Foles. You can't make Howie, Lurie, and Pederson have your opinion. He was drafted by Reid and Howie as an Eagle. He was trained by Reid in 2012 and 2016 He had the 3rd highest rated season in NFL history as an Eagle. He was great in that playoff game but Riley Cooper literally dropped the ball (Google it) and the D folded late. He was traded by an idiot. He came back and was amazing in 2 playoff runs. (Jeffrery dropped an easy catch in the red zone vs NO) 2018 was not as pretty or rewarding as 2017 but it was damn impressive. Foles took a 6-7 team to 9-7 and then just short of the NFCCG. They built him a statue. He was not a journeyman in their opinion. They just really liked Carson Wentz at the time. They just really liked Carson Wentz at the time. Foles definitely played well in the postseason but he wasn't considered the franchise guy going forward. He started in Philly, left for two seasons, and then signed a 2 yr/$11M deal to be Wentz backup. The team was clearly planning on Wentz being the guy going forward and just signed Foles back as an insurance policy. And I think Foles is a journeyman QB, he has 56 starts for 5 different teams over a 10 year career and has never started a full season in any season. The 49ers traded for Jimmy G, gave him a mega contract, and then traded multiple first round picks to move up for a QB while Jimmy still had 2 years left on his deal. I didn't mean it as a slight to Foles but they're just completely different situations. The Eagles didn't invest multiple first round picks into him. SkippyX
FYI, for the peanut gallery. Foles as an Eagles QB was better than Wentz in Record Playoff success Passer rating Completion percentage TD to INT yards per pass pretty much everything Wentz had 1 more GWD in about 2x the starts. (10 to 9) https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/phi/career-passing.htm That was one hell of a Journey from that Man Edited January 19, 2022 by SkippyX

Foles has also bounced around the league throughout his career. The Eagles had to pay Wentz and Foles was going to get paid as a veteran that won a Super Bowl. Jimmy G is going into a contract year and they just drafted his replacement #3 overall. Jimmy/Lance is more comparable to Smith/Kap or Smith/Mahomes than it is to Foles/Wentz.
