You’re comparing HOFers in a 5 year span vs Foles who’s had, what, 10-16 games over the course of 10 years where he wasn’t a career backup? Sounds like cherry-picking to me. Foles gold, can’t even beat out Dalton or Minshew. Guy might be done in the league, tbh. Should take his earnings and walk like the snake he is. SkippyX
Maybe the Jake question can add some perspective to the idiocy of the backup and didn't start 16 games enough label. Jake Plummer was a backup for the first 7 games as a rookie and never again in his career. He started 16 games in 5 of his 10 seasons. He brings a tingle to the loins of the 16 game bros. He was as regular as a bran muffin. Sure, he was 69-67 in his career, led the league in a major passing category 4x (most interceptions 2x and GWD / 4QC in 1998) He had a 74.6 career rating and a 72.7 playoff rating He had 161 career TDs and 161 career interceptions in the regular season. His 2 memorable playoff wins were part of his nothing special 2-4 playoff record with 7 TDs and 10 picks. He's not great. He's probably not even very good but he sure checks 2 boxes of random importance to some people. Jake Delhomme was an undrafted free agent QB who spent 6 years as a practice squad or backup QB in New Orleans. He went to Carolina as the backup/competition for Rodney Peete. Peete was so bad in week 1 that Delhomme took over for the rest of the year. You may remember this as his last play that year? or the TD before that This was his 19th career start. So Delhomme won 3 playoff games that year and lost a shootout to the GoaT aided by an out of bounds kickoff. (and Jake's teammates on 'roids , lots and lots of 'roids) He had a 106.1 rating that playoff year. He had 7 GWD in the regular season and another in the playoffs. (and he tied the SB with about 1 minute to play) He spent the next 6 years as the Panthers starter and had more success as an 85ish rated regular season QB who won 2 more playoff games leading the Panthers to the NFCCG again in 2005 vs Seattle. He had a 12 win and 11 win regular season as a starter on top of that 10-5 3-1 SB year. Then of course we have his horrific 5 picks and 1 fumble playoff debacle in 2008 (an 11 to 5 TD to INT playoff QB becomes a 12 to 10 QB) The remnants of his career after that game are nothing special. Even then, his playoff passer rating over the 8 games is 83.3, not great but not something you'd call a Plummer for. So Delhomme finishes up as a 56-40 QB with 126 TDs to 101 interceptions and a rating of 81.3. He won 5 playoff games in 8 tries. He led the league in exactly 2 categories: 4th quarter comebacks 2x and GWD 1x (beats leading in interceptions, yeah?) Both guys made the pro bowl once. It was the same game in 2005. So the Rorschach test is this. Who was the better Jake QB? The 8 year backup with three 16 game seasons in 15 years or the clear and anointed starter with five in 10 years? Me, I'm taking the SB and the NFCCG. Edited May 10, 2022 by SkippyX
