I don’t know if that’s an apples to apples comparison. In the NBA, it’s a lot easier for one or a few dominant players to drive a team and overcome bad coaching. In the NFL, it’s very common for a team to have a ton of talent and be brought down by bad coaching.

Fine compare Belichick  time in Cleveland vs NE.  If "great" coaches made such a difference than Cleveland would have been much better than there record.  Belichick had tremendous coaching talent on the 1991 brown team.  Nick Saban as DC and Erie Accorsi and Mike Lombardi in the Front office and all that coaching talent didn't amount to anything.  The Difference is in NE he has the GOAT.  Its the players not the coaches

One player who has worked with McDaniels in New England calls him “the biggest extension of Bill Belichick.” He’s as detail-oriented as Belichick, has shown his creativity in making the most of the Patriots’ rotating cast of offensive skill-position players and, while Tom Brady served his Deflategate suspension during the first four games of the 2016 season, proved he can win games with quarterbacks not named Brady.

Belichicks coaching tree

Eric Mangini - bust

Romeo Cornell - Bust

Josh McDaniels - Dumpster fire

Saban - Bust in the pros

Weiss - Bust at ND

Bill O'Brian - solid coach.

Why do all these guys go other places and bust out? because Tom Brady is not their QB.

The common thread among the Belichek assistants is that they never have had a QB as talented as Trubisky.

O'Brien had one for 4-5 games and they dominated.

How old were you when he got the Denver job? Four?

No college but even a four year old could recognize that Tim Tebow can't throw a football and that is the guy who you draft after running a 25 year old pro bowl QB out of town.

He was not wrong about Cutler.

Both McDaniels and Cutler have admitted they handled that situation poorly. McDaniels was on a power trip, and Cutler was immature. The direction of both of their careers doesn’t justify anything that happened with that exchange.
