AFlaccoSeagulls
Ed Reed is the GOAT for a reason.
diamondbull424
I’ve never watched Ronnie Lott play, but I’ve watched Ed Reed and especially before his neck/nerve injury, I can’t envision a better, more perfect safety option. But again, I’ve never seen Lott play live.
lancerman
This is one of those comparison where you it's really entirely dependent on the era. Lott was far more of a physical beast who just caused havoc and scared the **** out of everyone who faced him. There's a reason why people call the passing game in this era soft, one of the stock arguments is invoking "you think WR's were running these crazy routes back then knowing Ronnie Lott was going to cripple them". Ed Reed played a more cerebral game and was just smart in an era where you kinda needed to beat the QB's in their head and prey on WR mistakes. It's just too different despite both playing safeties. Today Reed would be better. 20-30 years ago, you wanted Lott.
