43M
Why would he take that? He made it clear he wishes he wouldn't have signed here. Guy believes he is a starting caliber QB. He isnt going to take a paycut to stay on a team he doesn't even want to be on and very possibly wont get a chance to improve his stock in 23. Only way he stays if we keep him at his current price, and if that happens, Rooney and whoever agreed with the decision need to go.
3rivers
trade him. he don't like it here anyway another colbert fail, glad we have a new FO and I don't expect these types of signing moving forward can we even get a 5th or 6th for him though? Bring in Brissett and get a QB from late in the draft or from other teams cuts. Maybe raid another league for a QB3 if they have to.

It was clearly a “bridge type” level of contract..he was clearly just a placeholder til Pickett was ready. Colbert had his fair share of failures but Trubisky wasn’t one of them…they even backloaded the contract with little dead $$$ just in case this happened.

He didnt cost much in 22 and we save alot by cutting him this offseason. The "failure" will be if we DON'T cut him, but we cant blame Colbert for that.
Chieferific
Seems pretty clear to me you dump Trubs for sure, prolly dump Mason (depending on $) and pick up a Minshew/Heinicke type then draft a late rd QB with "potential".

There is ensough history to prove he won't be the answer. other players out there that would/will be better and have promise to a degree, so better + upside potential. Maybe they structured his dead cap to be team friendly, but still not friendly enough to be able to trade the former #2 pick with that in mind speaks volumes. 32 teams and even if half need a reserve, thats 16+ teams out there that could/should be interested. Colberts last draft looks good though, glad we got KP, but dan jerimiah said KP was the best QB in the draft too. I like the other picks, Pickens the most who is on his way if he gets the targets. 9 hours ago, 43M said: The "failure" will be if we DON'T cut him, but we cant blame Colbert for that. maybe the FO is bluffing and they actually plan on moving disgruntled mitch in reality. We will find out eventually, not sure when because even an inseason trade is possible but I doubt it with his cap and being a reserve. From here on we can't blame colbert , be it late round trench picks or keeping overpaid players on the team that are NO good. There are a few of those and I expect Khan to take care of this. I have hopes for the new regime and they know that they have to win while the QB is on the rookie deal.
Ward4HOF
And when you look at Guaranteed $$, The contract was about as good as coule be expected... Jameis Winston - $21M - 2yrs Tyrod Taylow - $8.175M - 2yrs MArcus Mariota - $6.75M - 2yrs Teddy Bridgewater - $6.5M - 1yr ...and, then... Mitch Trubisky - $5.25M - 2yrs As 43M said, it isn't Colbert's fault if our current GM doesn't cut him in time... I'll never understand how many Steeler fans can be so spoiled over Colbert and Tomlin. Both have been, throughout their tenure's at least top 10 in the league. Name me a GM and /or HC who has hit every draft pick, and every FA, and taken his team to a winning record for 16 straight years. We are 3rd, out of 32, in W-L record since Tomlin has taken over, T-3 with 2 SB appearances since 2007 (behind NE and now, the Chiefs, and tied with LA Rams, NYG, Philly, Denver, and Seattle). Sorry, this rant was entirely tangential from its intended topic--sorry, but it's just like a broken record around here sometimes, with how terrible Colbert and Tomlin are/were... ...Try being Suns fan (well, before Wednesday's bombshell signing, but that's not a guarantee...), or, yes, ironically, a Baltimore Oriole's fan (been a fan of these since late 70s/early 80s). Point is, you want to talk about frustration as a fan...with coaches, and GMs, etc....and I see what it is like to be a fan of 25 other NFL teams in this league...it really blows to not win consistently, let alone, ever actually win, a championship, either ever, as in the case with the Suns, or within the last quarter century, for the Orioles...
3rivers
with mitch not happy here, is there a chance at all they trade him or if not , they ultimately cut him? Rooney stated otherwise but is he set on this or could he change his mind? Why keep a disgruntled employee

His deal 2 years $14 mill heavily backloaded…his year 1 cap hit was $3.5 mill…only $2.5 mill is guaranteed this year. Decent backup QBs go for roughly $3-4 mill per year…you were paying that regardless of who you signed to be the bridge QB. They’re basically paying $2.5 mill In dead $$$ this year fot the 5-10% chance his 1 year in Buffalo as the backup had taught him something. The problem is: if KP gets hurt, our current QB2 has proven to not be effective on this team anyways. He could go on to be comeback player of the year somewhere else much like Geno did, but here - he proved to be ineffective. There are a few vets in UFA that could be promising. Once again, we wait in suspense, just like UFA, trades and the draft. Interesting offseason anyways. who wins the game tonight?
VigilantZombie
Trubisky should not be on the roster.

Nothing against him, if he wins comeback player of the year, great. It's just that he proved here last year with this team, it's not happening. That's not entirely his fault either, but just the reality in place. Canada is here to stay by the sounds of it, so are the WR's and rest of the offence, so mitch should be traded or maybe even cut. Could they even get a RD6 for him ? Or perhaps another player, reserve of course.
