holt_bruce81
Cardinals 12th round pick in 2015 Jacob Schlesener had a nice line today... 6.0 ip, 0 hits, 1 run (0 earned), 2 walks, 13 strikeouts He now has 54 strikeouts (leads league) in just 33.2 innings pitched. 20 year old Lefty who occasionally touches 94 mph with his FB but more consistently around 91-92, and has a +curveball. Like any young pitcher, he could work on his command (24 walks in 33 innings).

holt_bruce81
These types of games are always nice, sucks waino couldn't at least go 5. But it looks like once again, we'll be playing to reach .500 our next game. Is the 10th time the charm?

CWood21
Jack Flaherty with a gem today... 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R (0 ER), 9 K, 1 BB Need to get the home runs down, but aside from that he's pitching really well.
holt_bruce81
It's insane that were only 3.5 out right now. Like, we're not a good team...but if our record is even a little better in 1-run games, we're in first place. No one can put together a long enough streak to run away with this division... kgarrett12486
Stephen Piscotty has been optioned to Memphis to make room for Dexter Fowler. Color me shocked... It's the right move though (outside of just shutting Piscotty down for the rest of the year). He needs to clear his head and Jose Martinez has been raking in limited playing time... We're the only team in the NL central to play better than 5-5 in our last 10 games lol...

Probably going to decide the division.
kgarrett12486
Jedd Gyorko hitting .198 with 5 xbh since July 1st. Hope he turns it around, cuz he's going to start getting into Brandon Moss type territory... Also, Paul DeJong is 11th player in MLB history to have 16 HR in 1st 59 games. He's got 29 combined between AAA and MLB thus far. On pace for 44...

Should have dealt Gyroko when his value was at an all-time high...
CWood21
Never too early to check in on our draft picks... Scott Hurst (State College): 31 GP (143 PA), .286/.359/.444, .379 wOBA, 138 wRC+, 9.1% BB%, 22.4% K%, .159 ISO Kramer Robertson (Peoria): 29 GP (130 PA), .276/.315/.407, .328 wOBA, 103 wRC+, 5.4% BB%, 17.7% K%, .130 ISO Zach Kirtley (State College): 28 GP (124 PA), .186/.323/.265, .299 wOBA, 86 wRC+, 14.5% BB%, 20.2% K%, .078 ISO Chase Pinder (Johnson City): 36 GP (147 PA), .336/.449/.434, .416 wOBA, 144 wRC+, 13.6% BB%, 16.3% K%, .098 ISO Evan Mendoza (State College): 39 GP (173 PA), .370/.430/.558, .460 wOBA, 190 wRC+, 8.7% BB%, 18.5% K%, .188 ISO Donivan Williams (GCL Cardinals): 18 GP (62 PA), .306/.419/.469, .417 wOBA, 151 wRC+, 14.5% BB%, 17.7% K%, .163 ISO Terry Fuller (GCL Cardinals): 22 GP (85 PA), .211/.294/.355, .312 wOBA, 87 wRC+, 9.4% BB%, 38.8% K%, .145 ISO For a team that didn't have it's first or second round picks, the early returns are promising even if a few players are probably playing a level or two below where they should be. Historically, the Cardinals have put their college picks at State College and most of their prep players go into the GCL Cardinals. Scott Hurst and Evan Mendoza probably will get the promotion to Peoria sooner rather than later, and the Hurst promotion probably frees up a spot for Chase Pinder to move up to State College. I know it's a small sample size, but looking at Donivan Williams walk rate for a prep player is incredibly impressive. And as expected, Terry Fuller has significant swing and miss tendencies. Nothing we didn't already know about though.
