Hungary Hippos

Overview / Prologue:

It is a dark and misty Sunday morning. As Hippos (checks notes) swim gracefully in their weekly warm-ups, a desperate Gotham lights Gondor’s beacon for the Avengers level threat that approaches. But, this time they are left to weep as a hungry Hippos line-up (trademark Hasbros) step onto the field to get a win they crave and see the city of Gotham with no Jedi left alive to mount a defense for them. The Hippos show their grim, bloody smiles, and devour the younglings that stand before them in this temple dedicated to football and Hungary's latest victory.

Offense:

Ratio: Balanced

Playbook: West Coast Offense

The Hippos are consistent in our offensive approach as we play to our strengths. Just as Hippos are unassuming murderous beasts, our consistent running game will be deployed early and often against Gotham to chew their defense to a bloody pulp. Our biggest advantage is our RB depth. We will use our stable of RBs to apply consistent pressure throughout the game and build a grindy advantage that plays on the following themes:

-        RBs with fresh legs deployed in a stable against a slowly tiring DL

-        Consistent balanced run/pass playbook that sets-up efficient play-action passing game

-        Quick drop backs for Geno, screen game to our RBs, and Hockenson and Metcalf’s reliability in 3rd down conversions.

This offensive strategy aids our reviewing personnel, who can utilize their physicality (Hockenson and Metcalf) in mid to short 2nd and 3rd down conversions. But, more importantly, the balanced attack looks to play a strong time of possession game where we can keep the flashy WRs of Gotham from getting into a rhythm on the field.

The Hungary OL has gotten healthier and more effective as our season has progressed. Our OLine, which will be supported by the blocking for Geno from our RBs and TE will keep the Gotham gangs from overrunning us. If they overcommit on blitzes our short passing attack will leave the city of Gotham crying for a savior.

Defense:

Base: Tampa 2 – Nickel Wide 9

Coming into this match-up against Gotham we know they want to air it out deep with their WRs and take advantage of the room underneath in the short passing game. This week we are deploying our Tampa 2 – Nickel Wide 9 defense in order to respect the deep passing game, while planning for the short passing routes that Gotham is also expected to deploy to try and take advantage of run after the catch opportunities (a plan we are seeking to render ineffective over the course of the day).

The Hungary Defensive Line deploys a 4 man rush strategy with Maxx Crosby and Will Anderson being our stalwarts on the edge. These guys are the cornerstones of our pass-rush and we have Clowney for a spark off the bench (primarily for Anderson, as Crosby to play almost every snap). Our Interior D-line strategy is to be opportunistic in our deployments (see below):

-        Early & Passing Downs: Fletcher Cox and Calijah Kancey (spelled by Javon Kinlaw) to generate QB pressures.

-        Short yardage situations (and rotationally for keep fresh DL in play): Larry Ogunjobi and Sebastian Joseph-Day to bring in our fresh interior lineman who are our superior run stuffers.

-        Mix in some blitzes (S/LB): Low frequency of 15-20% to add variety to the 4 man pass rush and to make their OL respect the threat.

-        Our commitment to the 4-man pass rush and utilization of our DL depth will pay dividends in allowing our defense the extra bodies to cover Gotham’s WRs and RBs.

Our base defensive game-plan is focused on respecting the deep pass and limiting after-the catch damage. We have our bench CBs available to come in for 4 WR line-ups and our key coverage match-ups are detailed below:

-        Jeff Okudah to cover Tyreek Hill

-        Juju Brents to cover Christian Kirk

-        Witherspoon to cover Adam Thielen

-        Jack Cunninham off the bench available for TE coverage and as LB depth.

-        Logan Wilson will be relied on for extra coverage in the instances where we hit Gotham with a S/LB blitzer.

This stratagem plays to our defenses pass rushing and run defensive strengths, while putting our LBs and Secondary in the best position possible to defend against Gotham’s top offensive talents. Best of luck to Gotham this week!

Gotham

We have the best strategy in BDL and we will continue to punish ill-equipped secondaries.
We will let our WRs beat the Lancaster corners and reward them with quick passes that will allow for good run after
These quick passes and shotgun will keep Dak upright as shown by previous BDL games.
We’ll run the ball too.
On defense we’ll cover their guys and blitz to put pressure on Lancaster. We’ll stop the run
