Cuba Smugglers

Offense

We really want our RBs to consistently generate yards. Rome brings their meat wall lineup, but our running backs have the ability to catch out the backfield. We start Burkhead and Tevin Coleman for this very reason. Woodward and Mosley are rather solid cover guys, so Jack Doyle being around is important. Kirk Cousins will have a nice group of options as Kelvin Benjamin returns this week. We won't mark him as an every down player but his presence helps everyone else. There's some more vanilla getting Tavon Austin touches and using the I-formation with Anthony Sherman leading the way for Burkhead and Frank Gore.

We haven't mentioned Julio yet we imagine Rome will key on him in their game plan. We will use that to our advantage, though we will take a shot or 4 when Julio is in single coverage. Will Jackson has done some brilliant things this year but Julio is good for a couple elite plays each game.

Gameplan: Get other weapons involved. Welcome back Kelvin Benjamin, use as many weapons to get the double coverage off Julio. Regardless of playcall, Cousins will audible to a route involving Jones down the field.

Defense

Drew Brees has defeated us before this year. He's probably a downgrade from our recent opponents, an indication of how good Russell Wilson and Carson Wentz have played this year. Rome has a reasonable interest to own balance with a talented group. We anticipate Todd Gurley being more involved. Gurley will probably be the feature player and we're basing the gameplan to stop him. His dynamic talent in the backfield will be combated by a strong rush defense. Despite the veteran label, Terrell Suggs has been fantastic all year against the run. We're adding some extra size and length starting Derrick Shelby across from Suggs because his size fits our run defense based edge. Fletcher Cox and Calais Campbell have been elite this year, and playing them next to each other is a direct response to the threat of a Brees playaction pass. We figure the interior pressure that rattles him is threatened with a dynamic pass rush which requires at least one double team as we'll have arguably the top two interior rushers in the NFL playing next to each other frequently. We can always include Chris Baker to add more beef and move Calais Campbell to the edge. These line rotations make us confident we can win battles in the trenches. Kyle Van Noy figures to see plenty of OJ Howard as a versatile player who can lineup on the edge or ILB. Either way most of his snaps will be blocking or covering Howard. Johnathan Cyprien is also coming off his best game of the year, coincidentally the game he had increased responsibility of run defense. At LB, his speed helps track stretch plays and cover play action passes when we show run based packages. His coverage will play a third of the field while having run and chase responsibility on Gurley. Derrick Johnson has been a pro bowl lite player in coverage this year so we feel comfortable changing the guy at SLB (Van Noy/Jenkins) as primary blitzers. They will attack off the edge quite frequently and we can use them as interior A gap blitzes when Campbell moves to the edge position.

We're investing a significant amount of resources against Gurley, but Brees is still to be respected. I anticipate Rome having work in spread formations if Brees is to get into a rhythm. LaMarcus Joyner has been an elite safety this year in all aspects of his game. Jamar Taylor started the year off poorly, but has rebounded in recent weeks with reasonable coverage assignments. Rome has one near elite, but very good number one receiver with Michael Crabtree. The return of Desmond Trufant won't make things easy for Crabtree and he can shadow the receiver on most occasions. Otherwise, Anthony Brown has the speed to match Ted Ginn, and Lardarius Webb is the versatile Nickel CB safety to match with Amendola. We added Tre Boston this week for the purpose of bracket help in two man under schemes. He'll move to SS and have Morgan Burnett relieve Cyprien as the underneath coverage help.

Gameplan: Bracket Corey Coleman or Amari Cooper on base packages. Focus on Gurley in 2 TE/2WR sets. Trufant will deal Crabtree. Base most of our resources to dealing with Gurley. Versatile personnel to deal with the pass

Motivation

Our motivation is at a fever pitch as this game is for the division against a team that embarrassed us in the voting last time around.  We are out for revenge

Offense

This week we are returning to our Air Raid offense as we get our two starting WR back this week and thankfully just in time against a Cuba secondary that's short on depth with the loss of Richard Sherman. This week will be an uptempo offense against a team we feel we have some advantages on

Cuba gets back Desmond Trufant this week so we will likely not be looking in his direction.  However, the rest of this cornerback trio really can be had.  Anthony Brown has really struggled thus far this season while Quinton Dunbar has basically been benched for Washington the last two weeks getting a combined 8 snaps and Jonathan Bademosi doesn't play either.  I suppose Jamar Taylor could play but Cuba has designated him their fourth corner when Trufant was out so that’s how much faith they have in him

With the above being covered, we are gonna allow Breesus to throw the ball all over the yard to a couple big time playmakers in Cooper and Coleman, a great possession receiver in Crabtree and a slot route runner in Lamendola.  Cuba simply can’t cover all these four and if they drop into a zone to try, that just makes it easier for Brees to pick apart the defense.  We will generally be moving Amendola in motion to determine the type of defense we are playing as a corner or safety will have to roll with him in man, or will stay there if it is zone.  Gurley will be helping out Leno with a chip before he goes into his route.  If we are getting beat up front, he will be staying in to help block, but that will only be in an emergency situation

With the defense spread out we will be able to run to some draws and off tackle plays against a lighter box.  Once we see the Cuba d line pinning back their ears to go after Brees expect some screens to Gurley to get him in open space as an extension of our running game

Up front is both a strength of Cuba and of our own team.  Ramczyk has been excellent this year and we trust him against any edge they put over him.  Leno as mentioned earlier will be getting help from the RB in a chip which should help him with suggs which leaves us with a 3 on 2 on the interior against their really impressive  dt unit.  Luckily our interior is the biggest strength of our line and we feel the numbers game there will help us out.

TL?DR     Uptempo air raid  65/35 pass to run ratio.  Insert screens once they concentrate on pass rush, take advantage of cornerback depth issues

Defense

Unfortunately for CUba, their weapons have been decimated by injuries this year.  Thus stopping the offense has really come down to stopping Julio Jones.

For now, we are going with a Nickel base formation as we aren’t quite sure what Cuba is going to throw at us.  We think we are going to see Julio, Benjamin and Austin at the wide out spots.  If so, we are going to put Humphrey on Julio and he is going to get bracket coverage help every play from Addae.   Humphrey is going to play physical inside coverage on Julio to slow him down as he knows he is getting help over the top on every play.   On the opposite side we have William Jackson matching up with Kelvin Benjamin.  Jackson has looked better every week for the Bengals and PFF has written whole articles on how amazing he is doing.  Amukama is assigned Austin in three wide and will run with him wherever he goes.  Chung plays in the box today over the TE to provide run support and erase the TE like he has done for BB all year.  We will have Mosley take the RB out of the backfield and Woodyard plays a middle robber zone to take out any quick hit slant patterns.

Up front Cuba has a solid, if unspectacular front that won’t embarrass themselves.  The Smuggles like to run the ball to the edges, but we have two solid run stopping edges there who are great at forcing the ball back inside.  That is where our meat wall of Brockers and Tomlinson reside as well as our two LB tackling machines.  Woodyard playing that middle zone also allows for him to cheat towards a side that Austin is running to in case of some sort of gadget motion play.  The middle robber zone also allows him to account for Cousins occasional running.  We think we have a strong opportunity to get a lot of coverage sacks this game as the Cuba line strength is definitely geared towards the run.

If Cuba goes with less than 3 WR we are ready as well.  If it is sherman, Humphrey will come off the field for Malcolm Brown as we will play a five man front.  If they go two tight end, Amukamara will go to Julio bracket coverage and Josh Jones will come in to cover the second TE and play in the box

TL/DR:  Eliminate Julio from the picture, stop the run to the edges and force other players to try to keep up with our offense

I guess I'll let others try to figure out what the hell you're talking about cause I'm completely confused

I'm sorry you can't realize a defense plays more than one coverage during a game?
