With Wharton back I see just three starting positions in need to challenge a threepeat:

LT - unless you believe in Wanya
CB - keep/someone to replace Sneed  .. a TRUE shutdown CB
WR - to pick up from MVS (well ... or do a bit more)

and then there is the draft

I might add Edge to that list.  but pretty much agree.   Danna is gone, Omenihu out awhile.   Depending how big of a jump you expect FAU to make.

With modern medicine  -- I expect him back start of the season. Otherwise you have to patch up.
And I'm not sure Danna is gone. Lots of 1 year contracts out there right now  ...

But then there is the Veteran Benefit Rule thingy  .... Veach made plenty use of ...

Oh for sure,  I just meant at the current time.   I'd probably be looking for another Vet at Edge.   I would love for Danna to be that guy.

Wanya is at least as good as Smith. I'm more worried about RT.
When Sneed is traded we can worry about replacement. There are none we can reach in this draft. Williams and Watson are better at CB2 than most teams have.
Hollywood Brown solves WR for a year. No draft pick going to step in and play.

We need depth at several places and Travis Kelce's eventual placeholder. We can see what cheap FA are available.

Draft coming up --- my take per positional group:

OL: Do you believe in Wanya? If you do - no probs. If you don't - a big one. Depth is an issue just from the numbers. But veteran (inside) OL are available after the draft by the numbers.

QB: Set.

RB: Set.

WR: The big one. I would plan for Rice not playing a single snap this year. Is Brown a true #1? I don't think so. Moore may be a #2, Watson a #3. So they have 2x #2, and a #3.

TE: With Kelce and Gray: set. Rumors about Gray retiring ... I don't think so. Kelce replacement may become an issue - but not for this draft.

DL: Last year's crew is back. Set.

LB: Traditionally a thin unit at KC. Lacking the speed guy Gay was.

DB: Putting those together. Traditional S seems set. But with speed guy missing at LB - someone may have to move up. CB frontline may look somewhat decent  .. but no depth. And I don't see that true cut #2 CB. Sneed will be missed. Overall number critical.

That said:

Potential #1 WR is a must.
OL depends on how much you trust Wanya.
DB needs depth - at minimum. May be more.

That said: I would expect the Chiefs to draft WR, CB, and OL in the first three rounds - and if value is not there - to look at LB.
And I would not be surprised to see them trading up to get "their" guy using 4th/5th rounders or next year`s picks.

Because: this roster does not lack breadth, but quality in certain spots.
Where depth is required - the Chiefs were pretty good to fill those with UDFA and one year rentals. And going for a THREEPEAT may be a pretty good incentive to get solid aging veterans to sign up for a one year rental.

So from a needs perspective:

1 - WR
2 - CB
3 - OT
4 - LB
5 - anyone else

Here are my needs rankings:

1- LT // Self-explanatory. We don't have, imho, a LT on roster right now, even though, I do think we have the card of Donovan Smith in the back pocket if needed

------

2-WR // Rice may miss games, Hollywood is on a 1 year deal, Watson isn't reliable enough. We need someone here

3-CB // I'm a big big Sneed fan and I think we're underestimating his loss.

4-iOL // Creed and Smith are upcoming FAs. We lost Allegretti. Getting someone for depth purposes at first, maybe slide at RG next year would be great

5-LB // Here again we have Bolton who is an upcoming FA and we lost Gay. Getting someone to develop would be great

6-DE // All depends on FAU. Omenihu is gone after next year and thus far FAU has shown nothing so hard to say if we need someone or not. I do believe in the value of having stud edge rushers however so if one is available, we should get him

7-NT // For Nnadi upgrade/replacement

8-TE // Plan for Kelce future retirement

Nothing suggests that Rice will not be available for the full season, excepting any suspension. For now, put him in.

There are signs that the staff is not done with Toney. Pencil him as WR4.

We have a LT tackle on the roster, drafted last spring.

Looking at the depth chart I think it´s obvious that CB is a remaining urgent need THIS year. Anyone behind the three guys I have as starters is a big question mark. Not sure who is still out there on the FA market, but something needs to get done.

Looking ahead to future years: IOL may become an issue, so loading up there would be helpful as well. And IOL (at min backup level) can be routinely found in the later rounds.

And then there is Travis.

So I would not be surprised to see the two 4th rounders going IOL and CB; with a distant chance of TE. Wouldn't be surprised if they double tap CB though.

We have three starting grade CBs, one a Pro Bowler, and we drafted Kamal Hadden. We won't be as good as last season but why the panic?

You should be glad to find out that we spent a 4th round pick on an IOL who can play both C and G. The last pick is another IOL who is an athletic freak from a no-name school. Two projects for the future.

The two 4th rounders went to a TE and a thumping S.

Multiple sites are loving our day #3.
