He did play well. I definitely expect him to swat balls at the line, though. He's got big mitts and that's a part of his game. Our 2nd unit DLine was pretty great.

Honestly it's really difficult to tell how almost anyone played because of how poor Sudfeld was. I thought our defense played pretty well until they started getting gashed by RBs. Secondary was pretty good.

It's hard to convey just how bad Sudfeld was. He was missing throws, he was missing reads, holding the ball too long, taking unnecessary sacks, etc. About the only thing he did well was protect the ball. Hooker came in and was pretty solid. Showed some flashes, has an arm, mobile, definitely a gamer. He definitely seeks out contact. Layed some wood but also took some big shots. He can't be the backup if he can't protect his health. He's talented enough, just gotta get his mindset right.

I think what we saw from Brodric Martin will carry over into the regular season.  The impact of Terrell Williams is showing up in the improved play of Brodric Martin. The interesting part is Brodric Martin is a work in progress and we really don't know what his ceiling will be.  It will be fun to watch his progress.

I have to admit being a little biased with Brodric Martin.  After watching the ludicrous reactions by pretty much all of the beat writers when he was drafted, I very much want him to succeed not only to help the Lions but bring some of the beat writes down a peg or two.

One of the surprises of this training camp is James Houston.  I was hoping he could break out of that pass-rush specialist mode but it doesn't seem like his off-the-ball skills are improving quickly enough?  Do you think he can hold a roster spot just as a pass-rush specialist?  I am not so sure.  He seems like a player who would have better success on a 3-4 defense.

The Lions lost Nate Lynn to a season-ending injury.  That is too bad.  Nate Lynn was having a surprisingly good camp.  However, it looks like Christian Mahagony is finally back.  He brings some much-needed reinforcements to the interior OL but he has a lot of ground to make up.

MCDC said Mahagony is back in the building, but not practicing yet. I wonder if he had Covid and is no longer contagious, but not in shape to pass the conditioning test yet.

Antione Green being waived with a concussion is sort of unexpected this early.  the most shocking thing is he is only the 2nd player drafted by Holmes who isn't currently with the team.  Really would like to find another WR and don't doubt that we will be bringing in some guys from free agency.  It seems like Michael Thomas would at least be worth a work out given how bad the rest of the WR core seems to be.  There is talk of moving ARSB back outside so Raymond can play the slot more but I dont like taking ARSb out of his role that fits his skill set the best.

Gibbs and Hooker hurt is no fun.  We signed Fromm as a backup QB to Sudfeld until Hooker can play again.  I don't see him sticking around but would be nice if he could show more than Sudfeld at least.

Gibbs being down will maybe give Vaki or Jefferson a chance with the ones.  Have heard positive things about our RBs this camp so hopefully someone steps up aside from just putting the whole load on Monty.

There was a neck injury in addition to the concussion that led to his release.  It must have been pretty significant.  MCDC mentioned that it was the best thing for Antoine Green.  The upshot to the minor injuries to the veterans is that it frees up reps for the younger players.  I think it has helped Brodric Martin.  It will definitely help younger players like Sione Vaki and Giovanni Manu.

The concussion to Hendon Hooker hurts but we have seen some progress.  The regression by Nate Sudfeld is problematic though.  The best we can hope for is to have Hendon Hooker stay healthy and continue to progress.

Finally. Such a waste of space he was

Not really.  He was a 7th round pick who got a lot of playing time late in the season last year as a rookie.  He was battling for the #3/#4 WR spot.  If not for the neck injury it would have been another solid pick.  Based on how MCDC talked about him as a player, he and the coaching staff seemed to have a fair amount of trust in him.

So Wayne Fontes type season

Lol, I just think the offense might struggle at first with Gibbs's hammy, even though it's minor it's still concerning, the lack of wr depth is evident, and the interior o line is shaky, not bad but not much depth on the line, plus the north has gotten drastically better as a whole. I have faith and hopefully Jamo is the real deal this year

Lets clarify some things.  Our O-Line starters are not shaky.  We have problems getting consistent play from our depth.  The return of Christian Mahagony my help with that.  Our primary concern is WR#3.  With ARSB, Sam LaPorta and Jameson Williams around WR#3 is essentially a "security blanket".  MCDC himself said it could be filled by RB like say Sione Vaki who is already a good pass catcher.  Jahmyr Gibbs is going to feast in the passing game also so we will have plenty of options.  Jahmyr Gibbs injury doesn't seem to concern the coaching staff too much at this point.

If we need a player, there is almost always a serviceable veteran OG and WR that becomes available as roster cut downs are made.  The depth problems are addressable with a minimum amount of pain.
