COACHING CAROUSEL

I got offered the HC job at Penn State, Notre Dame and West Virginia but I plan on staying with Kent State till they're a national title winner.

I still don't understand how or when I can fire my coordinators? I guess I'm stuck with them.

So the first week that you aren't in a bowl game, go to the staffing tab and you should be able to fire a coordinator. It is only in the first week however. Not sure why.

You can fire your coordinators during the week of the conference championships.  I think that's the only time.  It's under the manage staff popup on the main menu where you normally recruit or play your game from.

I'm hoping I can make some noise in the playoffs this year. I glanced at my schedule and I don't play Ohio State or Michigan so I might end up with a really good record. Home field advantage in Game 1 of the playoffs would be huge.

Preseason Recruiting - Year 4

xyrYtzc.png

- I don't really understand why I remained a 3 star after a pretty successful season last year. I made it to the playoffs last year and got no bump. Weird.

- Championship Contender increased from A- to A, but this fluctuates throughout the year due to your W/L record.

- Stadium Atmosphere increased from D+ to C+. This is a big upgrade and should hopefully make my fans louder when I play games. Maybe eventually I'll get a homefield advantage perk?

- Pro Potential Decreased from B to C+. I only had 1 player drafted this past year and he went in the 4th round so I guess this isn't too surprising but I didn't expect it to be this reactionary and fluid. I need to start pumping guys into the NFL to get this up. Hopefully when my recruiting classes start to graduate around Years 5 & 6 will help with that.

- Brand Exposure increased from C+ to B-. A minor increase but not bad.

- Coach Stability had a huge jump from D+ to A-. There seems to be no middle ground on this one.

- Coach Prestige increased from A- to A.

- Program Tradition, Campus Lifestyle, Academic Prestige, Conference Prestige, and Athletic Facilities all stayed the same. I'm not sure how Campus Lifestyle or Academic Prestige can ever change. Apparently Athletic Facilities will go up if my team star rating goes up. Program Tradition I just need to win big games.

Team Needs - Offense

t4FYboj.png

- The game says I need 2 more QBs to fill out the roster but Turbin is locked in as the long term starter, and I'm Redshirting his long term backup in Warren Frantz. I even have another bottom of the depth chart QB in Etienne that I previously recruited. I'll try to grab a QB just to fill out the roster but it isn't a true need.

- I have several speed type RBs in Miree and Payne that are good players, but I have no Power backs to spell them (I recruited some power backs last year but they suck). I would love to grab a high end power back to share the backfield with Miree, and I need another back or two to upgrade the depth at this position long term.

- My only FB is a Junior so it wouldn't hurt one that I could Redshirt next year while Cave is a Senior.

- I always need more WRs. I like my WRs, but grabbing a truly elite prospect could really help my offense. It will be interesting to see how the offense is without McCray this year. A high end WR is one of my top recruiting focuses this year.

- TE isn't a need, but if a high end prospect is interested it wouldn't hurt to grab one so I can Redshirt them next year when Muamba is a Senior.

- Windt will take over as the starter here this year at LT, but my backup is a Senior and Windt wasn't a Superstar recruit either.  I could use a good backup or a stud to compete with Windt for the starting job, or both. My two backups at RT are both Seniors too, so Tackle is a big need this year.

- Carden and Kozlowski should have both Guard starting spots locked down for many years. I have some depth here already too.

- At Center, Leonhardt will hold down the starting spot here for 2 years but it wouldn't hurt to grab a premium prospect to groom here.

Team Needs - Defense

8GeqzY6.png

- At DE, I like Duff and Ajayi to hold down these spots for years as starters. I could use more depth here though.

- NT Shields is still only 79 OVR and is now a Junior. Its time to find an heir apparent. DT is a big need this year.

- I grabbed a million linebackers in last years recruiting cycle. So much so that I don't really see it as a need at all, especially at Edge. Maybe if a top end MLB wants to join then sure but Linebacker isn't a need at all.

- CB remains my biggest need this year and will be my primary focus this recruiting year. I need to at top end talent and hopefully more than one. That would do huge things for my defense.

- I have several Safeties lined up to take over the starting roles and only need some depth at the position.

Year 4 - Week 1

I was really rusty for this game as I hadn't played one in awhile. It didn't help that UNC is pretty good and was ranked #4 in the country. I threw 4 INTs in this game and most of them were in the redzone taking a bunch of points off of the board for me. Thankfully my defense was stout and mostly shut them down.

Turbin had only 116 yards, 1 TD and 4 INTs. Terrible game for him, but it was mostly user error from a rusty player. He faired better on the ground adding 77 yards on 7 carries. HB Miree only had 8 carries for 24 yards, but I had this bizarre thing happen where the CPU benched Miree even though he wasn't injured and wouldn't let me put him back in the game. Really frustrating. With him out backup Payne didn't fair much better with 40 yards on 11 carries, but 1 TD. My new WR core didn't fair well, TE Muamba was the leading receiver with only 46 yards. WR Hape caught the only receiving TD.

The defense really shut them down. Edges Terrance Forte & Jordan Gallon both had sacks and NT Anthony Shields added another one for 3 total on the day. CB AJ Helfin picked off the opposing QB for my only forced turnover of the day. I didn't accumulate a ton of defensive stats because UNC was punting a bunch.

Good win vs. a tough opponent.

Year 4 - Week 2

Offense is back! This was a shootout. NC State was really able to move the ball on me, but luckily I pretty much scored whenever I wanted. I also ran all over these guys.

Turbin recovered for 305 passing yards, 4 TDs but 2 more INTs. He also was the leading rusher with 60 yards on only 3 carries. The CPU benched Miree again, I have no idea what is happening with that. Backup Payne had 47 yards on 6 carries and 3rd string RB Pope had 6 carries for 49 yards. Somehow 4th string RB vultured 2 TDs on 2 carries for 8 yards. As a team I rushed for 205 total yards. New #1 WR Thad Lincoln arrived in this game, 5 receptions for 199 yards and 2 TDs. He's going to be my go to deep threat this year. TE Muamba added another 53 yards and a TD and WR Hape added another TD.

FS Simon Kowalski led the team with 14 tackles, its never good when a Safety is your leading tackler. It usually means a bunch of completions are happening. DT Branden Duff had 2 sacks, 3 TFL and 4 tackles. He was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. Edge Forte and NT Shields again both had sacks. Forte is looking like a good pickup in the Portal. Forte also had an INT which is pretty rare for an Edge player. CB Jamin Benjamin who's my #1 CB this year had 2 INTs. Big game for him.

Year 4 - Week 3

This was a big win against a tough opponent. Tennessee has a ridiculous home field advantage mechanic where your entire offense starts off "cold", meaning your QB makes poor throws, your WRs drop passes and your RBs want to fumble the ball. Oh and it does it again at halftime. Ridiculous.

QB Turbin had only 206 passing yards 2 TDs and 2 more INTs. They had a really good secondary, I burned them bad on one deep pass but for most of the game I had to stick to the ground game to make progress. QB Turbin was the leading rusher again with 96 yards on 13 carries and 2 rushing TDs. He was a legitimate dual threat in this game. Backup HB Payne had 14 carries for 80 yards and starter Miree actually played more this time but really struggled, he had 15 carries for only 32 yards. 3rd string HB Hicks vultured a TD. I hit WR Lincoln for a 64 yards bomb TD reception, he finished with only 3 receptions though for 81 total yards. WR Hape had 4 receptions for 74 yards and a TD. Unfortunately my Oline gave up 5 sacks in this game too.

My defense played well again. Tennessee did not want to throw the ball, they ran the ball over and over. FS Simon Kowalski led the team in tackles again, this time with 7. He's one of my fastest players on defense so I guess it isn't surprising he's around the ball a lot. NT Anthony Shields had 2 sacks, 3 TFL and 3 tackles giving me back to back Big Ten Defensive Players of the Week. Shields has not been a stand out so far in his tenure here, but 3 games in and he now has 4 sacks already on the season. Could be a breakout year for him. Edge Forte added 1.5 more sacks and backup DT Seth Nelson grabbed the other 0.5 sack. The play of the game was in the 4th Quarter when nickel CB Marshall Redman intercepted their QB to help seal the win.

Year 4 - Week 4

This game was well in hand all game long, they didn't score a single point until the backups came in during the 4Q.

QB Turbin had 280 passing yards, 3 TDs and another 2 INTs. I'm really turning over the ball at a high rate this year, but I'm actively trying to push the ball downfield a lot. Turbin also led the team in rushing again, 9 carries for 92 yards and 2 more rushing TDs. For the season Turbin is up to 325 rushing yards and 4 rushing TDs. Turbin is now 5th on the Heisman watch list, would be pretty cool if I could pull that off. HB Miree had 52 yards on 15 carries for a pedestrian 3.5 ypc. He did have 1 TD. WR Lincoln burned them deep several times for 4 receptions, 158 yards and 3 TDs. TE Muamba added 5 receptions and 102 yards.

The defense just kind of smothered them but didn't make any big plays. Their QB threw the ball incredibly quick so I didn't get to him much. I only had 1 sack in the game and that was a linebacker blitz from Hess. No INTs either, Forte and Gallon both had 1 TFL.

I signed 3 recruits! I have more coming to visit next week too.

Houz1H4.png

This guy is a stud. He's only my second 5 star recruit I've landed. He's 6'5" 335 lbs and will be NT Shields heir apparent. He isn't fast but he has 89 STR. He should be able to Redshirt next year for Shields Senior year then take over as the starter at NT the following season.

kwij3HP.png

I was finally able to sign a high end CB recruit. Goodin is a top 100 recruit with 96 SPD, 90 ACC and 90 AG. His MC is 82 and PRS is also 82. He should blossom into my eventual #1 CB.

3BuP6VP.png

MLB isn't a huge need but Hess is a Junior so prepping to replace him is smart. Tucker is a beast, 92 SPD, 90 ACC. He will benefit from Redshirting a year then he should take Hess' spot in the starting lineup.

That's a nice start to the recruiting class.  Not sure why these 5 star WR aren't paying you more attention given the kinds of years your top WR's are putting up in the Big Ten.  If you can get one of those and a highly regarded bruiser at RB, you'll be well on your way to your best recruiting class yet.  That 5 star RT wouldn't hurt either.
