Best and Worst Drafts of the last 20 years

That doesn't help the Redskins though, except for a few meager comp picks.

I think it can be easily argued 2014 was a failure.  1 playoff appearance in that time, no playoff wins, and 1 player remaining on the team 4 years later.  That's a pretty awful return from a draft class.

They were good for us though while they were here. 5 of them made major contributions and contributed heavily to us winning the 2015 NFC Championship - Bree, Moses, Long and even Grant started at least 5 games that year.

The comp picks do help the Redskins, at least that gives us another bite at the Apple to find another mid round or late round pick to find more depth or even if we are lucky another starter.

I agree with turtle on 2014. Pure talent wise it wasn't too bad, the first 5 picks have all proven to be productive NFL players. Not a draft that changed our franchise, but also not up with some of the horrendous ones we've had either.

I get that.  I think its debatable though.  They were solid contributors for several years, but 4 years later to only have 1 player still on the roster is pretty awful.

I mean, look at a year like 2009. Outside of Orakpo, I can't remember one of those guys doing anything for the Redskins.

I know, but think how sad it is to be even debating 2014 as a draft success.  I mean to even be debating a class where 1 guy remains on the team 4 years later, and that class helped bring in a string of 9-7 to 7-9 seasons while they were here.  Lol that's what's a success is for this organization.

Anyone remember why we didn’t have a 2nd, 4th and 7th in 04? I think we traded up for Cooley which probably explains why  we didn’t have a 4th. I can’t femem why we didn’t have a 2nd.

I didn't start following the draft until 2005, but I assume the 2nd was traded for Clinton Portis.  2004 was the year Gibbs returned.

We have a winner.

2008 legitimately has to be one of the worst drafts that anyone has ever had.

And the funny thing is, the strategy behind most of it was actually pretty good. At least in my book — they did a lot of things I think are smart. Trade down from a pick in the late 20s to pick up multiple picks in the 2nd round. Continue to trade down to pick up more late round lottery tickets. Take elite specialist talent in the very late rounds. Take a developmental QB that you like in the late rounds.

But the guys they picked were just, to a man, pretty terrible. Devin Thomas over Jordy Nelson still hurts. Cut me deep haha. But beyond that, the four pick sequence that went Fred Davis // Desean Jackson // Calais Campbell // Malcolm Kelly changed the future of the franchise, honestly. We could have nabbed two Pro Bowlers — but instead we ended up with the two guys who could barely stay on the field for a couple years.

Plus the punter you take couldn’t even make it through half a season in the league and your developmental QB prospect was a tiny guy from Hawaii’s offense? Yikes. Just yikes.

Colt Brennan was still a cool name though.

That's right, duh. Well that pick turned into Tatum Bell who wasn't much. Betts would've started for the Redskins from 04-09 if champ bailey hadn't cheated on his wife and given him an ultimatum to leave DC or she was leaving.

colt may have worked out as a back up if not for the torn labrums. He had something to offer and a moxy about him. Its a shame he couldn't stay healthy.
