The 49ers have FS Jimmie Ward and SS Jaquiski Tartt. Yes, Derwin James would be a huge upgrade over Tartt but, they do have safeties on their roster.

And Eric Reid is heads and shoulders better than both of them.

Didn’t Reid end up playing LB for them last season?

Yeah, some. Looked pretty good too. Reid would be a nice get as a LB/S hybrid, but there are concussion issues.

I wouldn't sign him to a large, guaranteed deal.

He’s in one year prove it range now anyway. If there was a dominant tight end or a pass catching back in the division I’d say go for it. Would have been much happier with Honey Badger because he does the hybrid stuff as a corner, which would have filled a need big time.

Don't see Snyder going for Reid for the non-football reasons (and that's the end of that discussion). A shame because I think @oldman9er could be right in that Reid could work well as a hybrid LB/S (cannot believe I still am waiting for some DC to figure out how to combat the Gronk/Reed big/fast pass-catching TEs that are starting to appear -> 4-2-5 with a hybrid LB/S).
