1.10 - JJ McCarthy, QB, Michigan - #9
vike daddy replied to SemperFeist's topic in Minnesota Vikings
Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports fired off his NFL quarterback power rankings this week, and somehow, McCarthy, a shiny new 21-year-old rookie, checked in at No. 25 — notably ahead of Derek Carr, Daniel Jones, Bryce Young, Jayden Daniels, and Gardner Minshew. “Unlike Caleb Williams, McCarthy isn’t even guaranteed to start in Week 1, with Sam Darnold also in tow. But he’s got arguably the best situation of any rookie signal-caller, plopped into a Kevin O’Connell offense with Pro Bowl-level talent at every spot. He’s got a path to immediate success,” Benjamin defended the McCarthy placement. https://vikingsterritory.com/2024/news/analysis/j-j-mccarthy-earns-unusually-impressive-qb-power-ranking?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook -
1.17 - Dallas Turner, EDGE, Alabama - #15

obviously the Vikings felt Turner would be gone by their pick at 23. who might have taken him between 17 and 22? who might have traded up for him within that range? -
Kirk Cousins ends run with Vikings, signs with ATL (p.36)

Harrison Phillips: “There’s gonna be a huge loss. Kirk Cousins as a person, as a leader, as a teammate, that’s a big void in your locker room. One of the most humble guys that I’ve ever been around. Servant leader, just a great motivator. He’s great. To ask one person to fill that void is probably not probable. So what we’re going to do is have a great leadership team, which we’ve already seen. There’s already guys that I’ve seen these last few seasons being on this roster -- some are captains, some are not captains yet but will be in their careers -- and so we’re going to pass that torch off and kind of division of labor." "We’re going to all carry that load together, and maybe we can be a better football team for it. Kirk’s obviously amazing. I’ve learned a lot from him and the leadership side of thing, and that’s an area I’m trying to step up and improve my game by working on those abilities.” https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/harrison-phillips-we-need-leadership-team-to-fill-big-void-left-by-kirk-cousins -

Will Reichard, former Alabama teammate: "Khyree was my gunner on special teams. He's got a trash talk mentality but he backs it up by whooping you up and down the field." https://www.vikings.com/video/reichard-on-being-drafted-by-the-vikings-talking-trash-after-making-big-kicks-and-more -

Quarterback Kellen Mond’s time with the Saints has come to an end, as the Saints have waived Mond and offensive lineman Tommy Kraemer. They did not add anyone to the roster, but likely will in the coming days as they will be holding their rookie minicamp this weekend. Mond signed with the Saints in mid-April, but it was easy to see his departure coming after the team drafted Spencer Rattler in the fifth round. That move gave them five quarterbacks and the Saints will now roll with Rattler, Jake Haener, and Nathan Peterman behind Derek Carr. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/saints-waive-kellen-mond-tommy-kraemer

Turner is all about marketing. has a business degree and intends to make use of it after football, maybe even during. -

Kirk Cousins ends run with Vikings, signs with ATL (p.36)
vike daddy replied to vike daddy's topic in Minnesota Vikings
The Falcons may not be done adding to their quarterbacks’ room. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Atlanta put in a claim for quarterback Nathan Rourke. But the Giants were higher in the waiver priority, so Rourke is headed to New York. While the Falcons’ interest in Rourke comes after the club signed Kirk Cousins as a free agent and selected Michael Penix Jr. at No. 8 overall in this year’s draft, the team does have just three quarterbacks currently on the roster. Rourke would have been the fourth behind Cousins, Penix, and 2023 backup, Taylor Heinicke. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-falcons-put-in-a-waiver-claim-for-qb-nathan-rourke were they thinking of trading Heineke or something? i swear, following ATL's executive decisions is a popcorn eating feast! -

in addition to his physical skills, Turner is also quite intelligent and a student of the game. when he arrived at the facility, he didn't want to spend time with chit chat, he wanted a playbook. so he's a good match for the demanding and innovative Flores, as has been said frequently. he's also very business oriented so will be making a brand for himself as a pro.
