  1. Jason Peters worked well as a mentor splitting snaps with and helping prepare rookie Andre Dillard. He could do the same thing here and could be a stop gap assuming we go BPA instead of taking the 4th "best" Tackle in a lot of people's minds. Of course we'd have to sign Jason Peters now before the draft occurs as insurance against us missing out on one of the Browns top Tackle targets via the draft. I think that scenario that you laid out is likely the approach given that the Cardinals now signing Jordan Phillips at DT to pair with Zach Allen DE (that takes them out of the Derrick Brown market). Hopkins takes them out of the WR market. Pat Pete and Byron Jones take them out of the Okudah market. I mean I guess they might take Isaiah Simmons but everyone in league Circles thinks it's Tackle all the way. Giants and Cardinals are both taking Tackles. Panthers, Chargers, and Jacksonville may as well. Even assuming that it's just the Giants and Cardinals that likely means Wills and Becton are gone well before 10. I'd rather Tega-Wanogho or Robert Hunt at Left Tackle than taking Wirfs at 10 who will likely be there. I'd also prefer Andrew Thomas over Wirfs.
  2. FA Day 2 Targets: 1.) Clayton Geathers, SS/NS 2.) Vernon Butler, DT 3.) Dante Fowler Jr., DE 4.) Karl Joseph, SS 5.) Dontari Poe, NT 6.) Carl Nassib, DE 7.) A'Shawn Robinson, NT 8.) Maliek Collins, DT
  3. Wills at 10 was a fantasy to begin with. Now that the Cardinals swindled the Texans organization for Nuk Hopkins' talents they will be guaranteed to pass on Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb and instead likely look for a Right Tackle to compliment their newly re-signed Left Tackle DJ Humphries. They're not taking Derrick Brown and likely would even pass on Jeff Okudah even if he fell due to their belief in Byron Jones and Pat Pete. They might be interested in Isaiah Simmons like all the teams, but I doubt they'd prioritize LB/DP over Tackle. With Wills, Becton, and Okudah off the Board, we absolutely should trade down, but I'm willing to bet that Berry Co. focus in on Derrick Brown. Maybe there's opportunity to trade back some and still get Brown to join the organization given some people's perception of his combine performance.
  4. Emmanuel Ogbah for the Crumbled Up Cheeze-its.
  5. The Draft-Day Decision HIerarchy: 1.) Jedrick Willls Jr. - RT or LT Doesn't Matter He's an All-Pro 2.) Gamble on Mekhi Becton's Upside & Feel Conflicted and Extremely Uneasy About it the Whole Time 3.) Jeffrey Okudah - Amazing Leadership; The Smartest, Toughest, Most Accountable Prospect in the Top 10 4.) Trade Down 5.) Derrick Brown - Berry and Co. reportedly Love Him, He's Tough, and a Force Against the Run with Pocket Push 6.) Isaiah Simmons - If Used Correctly as a Edge Rusher, NLB, and WLB He Could Be an Important Defensive Match-up Specialist 7.) Andrew Thomas - Competes and Plays with Desired Disposition and Urgency; Coaches Would Have to Feel Like Red Flags and Technical Issues Can Be Overcome
  6. We had to do something. This stoops the bleeding some. Can't believe he didn't get top Tackle money in this FA class. Very Smart move by Conklin as that Spike in Salary Cap and TV money likely makes 20 million the base amount if he can play well. 20 Mil in year 1 means this is a 2 year deal and 2 year rental who could be franchised when it's all said and done.
  7. Rams seeking that ever elusive half eaten bag of cool ranch doritos with the warm capri sun thrown in.
  8. Let's Try this again. In 13 of Jason Peters' 15 years in the NFL, he's played 13 games 3 Times; 14 Games 2 Times; 15 Games 2 Times; and 16 Games 6 Times including the year prior to the last season. All Tackles that play long enough have "back issues" and "injuries," the point is he starts at least 13 games for 13 of the 15 years he's played in the league with most seasons seeing him play more. You assume that we're drafting a Left Tackle in the draft as well. Many respected scouting minds see all 4 of the top tackles as either having to kick inside as a guard or play on the right side of the line. If there are 5 Top Tackles by scouts opinion (not mine) 3 of which play on the right side of the line (Wirfs, Wills, Jones) and 2 on the Left Side (Thomas and Becton), then it stands to reason that the Browns have a better chance at getting a Right side of the line player. On top of that, a lot of scouts think Andrew Thomas is better off on the right side. Point is nothing about the draft or longterm approaches change by signing Jason Peters for one year. He's proven, will come in at a low controlled salary and is reliable to play many games. No one thinks Jason Peters is OT1. It's just he's a very viable and solid fall back option if the Browns can't solve their Tackle problem in a longterm way in Free Agency this year. It buys the Browns time to potentially take advantage of an opportunity to address the position in a longterm sustainable quality qay next season if the opportunity presents itself.
  9. Last 2 years he's played 29 out of 32 games. Jack Conklin the last 2 years 24 out of 32 games. Seriously tlhough, I get the concern, but no one thinks Peters is more than a 1-year solution to buy us time to get to the next draft and free agency in order to hopefully get a longterm Tackle solution. At this point, in a scarce position, the options are looking like just start 2 rookies and/or 1 rookie and kendall lamm and hope for the best, invest big money in a not great longterm solution like Jack Conklin, or sign a 1 year stop gap veteran with high upside play ability like Peters for the low.
  10. 1.) A Tackle is not a Tackle is not a Tackle. 2.) If we do draft said Tackle, who's going to play the other Tackle spot? Chris Hubbard?? Another rookie? Please don't say Drew "Prospect X" Forbes or Kendall Lamm.
  11. The Baltimore Ravens Front Office first with Legend Ozzie Newsome for decades and now with his mentee Eric DeCosta is so good it makes my head hurt. They Turned uber talented, oft-injured, 27 years old next season Tight End Hayden Hurst into a 2nd round pick. That value gained is just madness especially when they have Mark Andrews and Nick Boyle. Insane win. First Calais Campbell for a warm half eaten jar of pickles and now a 2nd for Hayden Hurst. They are goin in... and I don't like it at all.
  12. Only problem is one of Bryan Bulaga's knees explodes every other year and he plays with his feet in the mud on any movement based blocking calls. Peters, I don't know what he has left. We have to sign at least 2 guys though. We can't strike out and depend on the draft to solve our ills. I'd say sign Graham Glasgow, Halapoulivaati Vaitai, and Jason Peters as lower paid and/or stop-gap solutions until we can get longterm high quality starters.
  13. Marrying the Run and the Pass; making run plays present and look like pass plays and pass plays present and look like run plays has everything to do with the Tight End as defenses can't assume formation tendencies based on Tight End Alignment or being on the field. It also unlocks the Tight End as often the most explosive and match-up nightmare chess piece for the offense especially when a team can get ahead of the yardage game and can create 2nd and 6 or less. Hooper is likely to pull some defensive gravity away from OBJ. Jarvis due to his speed deficiencies didn't do that and if Jarvis is going to be on the field most of the time as our WR2 with OBJ WR1 we had to turn to the Tight End position to help create space and pull defensive gravity and/or take advantage of mismatches. Hopefully, they keep David Njoku. If they do, the two Tight End sets could get very interesting in terms of the phantom looks and explosive plays Stefanski can scheme up.
  14. All along Hooper was going to be the likely target b/c TEs mean so much to the Stefanski offense. His production is mostly him running uncovered open b/c Calvin Ridley and Julio Jones are taking two defenders and at least two sets if not three sets of eyes with them on a given play. He doesn't not go up and dominate at the catch point; however, he's a run after catch specialist who's tough and wiling blocker. He's not good blocker though by any means. Only problem is man oh man is are roster top heavy with major expenditures at WR, WR, and TE. That's the type of stuff you do when you're in striking distance of the Super Bowl or late round playoff contention. When you're building out high investment on the DE, DT, and OL positions are what make the most longterm sustainable sense. Sucks that Anthony Harris and Thuney are off the board.
  15. Oh my goodness!!!!! I really feel terrible for Deshaun Watson. How can you possibly make that trade when David Johnson no fault of his own is washed and a shell of his once amazing football player self. Best case scenario they forfeit De'Andre Hopkins' greatness for Denzel Mims + David Johnson. 4th round picks are a wash.
  16. I dont know man. We have sooo much cap space, even after projecting future contracts of Baker, Myles, Denzel, etc and that's especially true given the cuts or let walks we have gone forward with + the major increases coming to the Salary Cap value in all. We honestly can (Salary cap stewardship-wise get a little wild spending wise on multiple contracts. The Team is literally paying no one besides OBJ, Jarvis, Olivier, Bitonio, Tretter, and Sheldon Sheldon Richardson's contract comes off the books at years end most likely. OBJ and Jarvis may not be for long as well. Spend and spend big as long as it is strategic and targeted.
  17. It is exceedingly the more quality decision to pay a ton of money to Joe Thuney the higher quality player than to make Jack Conklin the highest paid Tackle in the game with the price tag he commands. Even still Guard money is a lot less than Tackle money and in the ZBS system Guards are more important. With so many holes on the we have to stop the bleeding with a quality player signing. But then you have to ask why would Thuney or Conklin want to sign with the Browns when the money is likely going to be comparable elsewhere. This might be a rough one or the overpays are going to be wild.
  18. There's absolutely no worry in my mind in the slightest that Jedrick Wills will be able to play Left Tackle at the highest level. I sincerely hope teams pass on him b/c he "played on the right-side exclusively." Please, for the love of goodness. ------------------------------------------- The Question: Over the span of traditional scouting analysis modern history, is there a constellation of traits (i.e., Physical and Mental) that lend themselves to making the transition of a Tackle from the right-side of the line to the left side of the line a successful one? Short Answer: Yes. Does the person play with consistent rare natural feel and instincts for the game in their play, does the person possess high level mental acuity, have high level work ethic and diligent investment in their craft, is the person coachable, does the player have easy, precise, and technical feet, does the player have high level functional athleticism, is the player adaptive to change, does the player exhibit the ability to control DLineman via either dominant or week hand/arm, etc.
  19. Spoken like a true amnesia-ing charlatan teeming with ballyhoo and prone to kerfuffle. This is obviously an original, creative take from a not easily forgettable internet entity. ------------------------- There's no situation where I'd share a room with the likes of you "Freddie gets us"/"they took errr jobs" sacks of derp. Even if we did, yall couldn't do a got damn thing to me. All I'd do is play a video of Freddie Kitchens saying the "Brown and Orange.. don't matter" quote and you'd all be derp hypnotized by the light like an insect to a bug zapper. Even without the video, I would beat the utter dog-sh*t out of the likes of you internet warriors. Then I'd bind you all and introduce you to numerous life ALL-22 reprogramming sessions.
  20. What are your draft day predictions: Who's the First WR taken in the Draft? Who's the First RB taken in the Draft? Does he go 1st round? Excluding Chase Young, Who Will Be the First Non-QB Selected in the NFL Draft? How Many QBs Go Top 10? And Who are they? Do the Browns Trade Down? Do the Browns Take a non-Tackle/Guard with their First Pick? If so, who? Who's the 2nd QB off the Board? Tua, Herbert, or Love? Who are the 1st 2 Tackles off the board? Who do the Lions Select? Who do the GIants Select? What Are Your General Predictions? Call Your Shot. ---------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- My General Draft Day Predictions: 1.) Jalen Hurts, QB Oklahoma is going to be a Pittsburgh Steeler. A lot of buzz in league circles that he's the Apple of Kevin Colbert & Mike Tomlin's eye. They'll trade up towards the upper part of the 2nd Round and get their QB1 of the future. Browns fans will laugh at his struggles in the pre-season or whenever he first gets some playing time, but a few years in the league such fans won't be laughing at all. Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Baker Mayfield, and Jalen Hurts would make for a dynamic AFC North QB competition. It feels like Hurts would always be bringing up the real in such a race, but you never know based on how things could potentially be built around him. It's going to come down to the Steelers or the Raiders. 2.) 2 Tackles will go top 10 with Jedrick Wills coming off the board first followed by Mekhi Becton 2nd. 3.) If a 3rd Tackle goes top 10, it will be Andrew Thomas and not Tristan Wirfs. Tristan Wirfs will go top-15, but he won't go top 10. 4.) The Browns may surprise everyone by selecting Derrick Brown even if the 3rd or 4th tackle is still on the board, but just know he may have been there guy for a very long time A lot of buzz that Berry and Co. feel like next Chase Young that Derrick Brown is the best player in the draft and that they might even take him if all the Tackles are still on the board. To me, that sounds absolutely nuts and insane as if Wills on the board you sprint to turn the card in and then you celebrate like you've never celebrated before. If somehow Jeff Okudah fell, a lot of buzz that they'd also select him over a few tackle prospects ------------------------------------------------------- Who's the First WR taken in the Draft? -- CeeDee Lamb Who's the First RB taken in the Draft? Does he go 1st round? -- D'Andre Swift Excluding Chase Young, Who Will Be the First Non-QB Selected in the NFL Draft? -- Jedrick Wills Jr. How Many QBs Go Top 10? And Who are they? -- 3 (Burrow, Herbert, Tua) Do the Browns Trade Down? --- If Wills, Okudah, and Derrick Brown are gone, then yes the Browns will Trade Down. Do the Browns Take a non-Tackle/Guard with their First Pick? If so, who? --- Yes, Wills and Becton will be gone. Derrick Brown or Jeffrey Okudah Who's the 2nd QB off the Board? Tua, Herbert, or Love? --- Justin Herbert comes of the board 2nd after Burrow and goes ahead of Tua in a draft day surprise. Who are the 1st 2 Tackles off the board? --- Jedrick WIlls Jr. and Mekhi Becton Who do the Lions Select? --- Isaiah Simmons Who do the GIants Select? --- Jedrick Wills Jr. or Mekhi Becton
  21. Drafting based on tools is a dangerous proposition in the top-10. The best tools in the world have value in the hands of a carpenter/craftsmen but those same tools mean nothing in the hands of an unskilled, beginner worker. Wirfs Tools aren't functional nor do they translate to on-field Tackle viable and/or successful Tackle play. His technique at Tackle is poor but what's worse is his natural feel for the game as manifest by his down to down snap approach. All the testing athleticism in the world but it only manifest on the field when he's uncovered blocking downfield or pulling. In that regard, he's the best we've ever seen. In other normal set snaps, he plays like an unsure slow-footed athlete in most Tackle Snaps. To be as athletic as he is that is an accomplishment.
  22. -------------------------------------------- The whole lot of you are charlatans for whom King Kai Nacua shall cast out due to the treason of all ye who doubteth him.
  23. Brett Kollman knows what's up.. On Wirfs Vs. Wills: " With Wills in particular in my opinion being clearly the better player of the two....Hall of Fame talent, It's not a hard decision.. take Jedrick Wills." I've been trying to tell everyone. Wirfs is a Guard not a Tackle and Wills is clearly the best, head and shoulders above the rest. If we take Wirfs and put him at Tackle it will be a huge mistake. Trade the 3rd rounder to get Wills. He has it all and will be an All-Pro year 2 at the Latest. If we must, I guess gamble on Becton, but F-that instead trade down if Wills if off the board. It's Wills or Bust aka if not Wills trade down and get Robert Hunt. @BrownsDog23 just saw that you already posted it. Good stuff.
  24. Comparing Jonathan Ogden and Larry Allen in any way to Tristan Wirfs is a travesty. -------------------------- Also, no, that's not actually what Joe Thomas said nor is that reflective of the general evaluation/sentiment he repeatedly expressed about Wirfs as a Guard. He did not as you suggest have the general evaluation that "Tristan Wirfs is a guard who will turn into a tackle in a few years" or intend to imply that "Once Wirfs is a Guard for a few years, he'll be a good or great Tackle later" as is the way you may be interpreting his comment about Wirfs needing to start off as a Guard. Instead, his comments were more focused on Tristan Wirfs having core, enduring play traits that make him a Guard while his impressive athleticism may give him a chance at Tackle in the future. Joe Thomas is not the type of person to come out and say "Prospect X has no shot at Tackle, He's only and forever a Guard." We know that from the Austin Corbett example wherein Joe Thomas was diplomatic in his comments about Corbett when he drafted and in the pre-season painting an optimistic picture of Austin, but alll along the way he was dropping gems and clues about Corbett's heavy-footedness and how he'd likely "need to start off at guard" then going on to say "he's a better fit as a guard." Thomas has since admitted with Andrew Hawkins that it was clear as day from the outset that Corbett had no shot at all as Tackle. The same type of phrasing has been used by Joe Thomas to describe Wirfs in that he'll say "he's going to need to start a Guard" b/c of core enduring traits. He then repeatedly referenced Wirfs as a Guard when ranking the top 3 Tackles then leaving Wirfs in his own category as a Guard who could be a Tackle. In general though, Joe Thomas' words aren't the law and unquestionable fact and he's admitted as such that he's not a scout and hasn't scouted the prospects all that heavily. But to clarify, Joe Thomas sees Tristan Wirfs as a Guard and that is such based on the his repeated references to Wirfs Tackle deficiencies and Guard traits much like he did with Corbett when he didn't want to be publicly harsh to a prospect even though he held other beliefs. His repeated references and association with Wirfs as a Guard were similar to the ways he talked about Corbett as a Guard (that's not to say that Joe thinks Wirfs is a bad OLine prospect like Corbett though).
