  1. Why? 1.) Because the great leader of men within commands that he lead on twitter and tv shows as well. 2.) Because he has it all figured out. 3.) Because the utility bill and upkeep costs of his stadium house in the progressive commercials is astronomical and he and his wife need the money just to make ends meet and prevent dipping into their savings. 4.) Because Hulu Live Sports added a zero to the large number on the check.
  2. Van Pelt's hire indeed points that direction. When Callahan arrived in Washington, he supplemented Scott McVay's wide-zone and zone game with his expertise on tight-zone and power gap-scheme blocking. Though that's Callahan's philosophical bent, Callahan can easily teach the zone scheme as a primary element of the offense if that's indeed what Stefanski desires. Van Pelt's likely could teach to that scheme if necessary based on his experience with Brian Callahan's interpretation of Gary Kubiak's scheme last year with the Bengals. The issue on the staff is that unlike the Kubiak's and Shanahan's of the world, none of the coaches have primarily led offensive installations where ZBS is the main scheme. That includes Kevin Stefanski who assisted Kubiak with the offensive installation in Minnesota but deferred to Kubiak's expertise. That installation requires specific teaching elements for all offensive schemes. Stefanksi may have decided to surround himself with the best coaches he could get with a diverse WCO background so that they can be multiple in their attack. That's all well and good, but if Stefanski decides to try to sway things toward all wide zone/ZBS there are some natural philosophical and teaching tensions that likely arise.
  3. I really hope Van Pelt was hired as a OC in waiting but primarily as a QB Coach. It would've made more sense to hire Brian Callahan from the Bengals and give him play-calling responsibilities. His experience under Kubiak and familiarity with his father would've paid dividends for a ZBS scheme aligned offense. Zac Taylor calls the plays for the Bengals, and it's possible the Bengals could've sought to block the move to a rival, but Taylor is not giving up play-calling anytime soon.

  5. .. interesting comparison I hadn't thought of ... Hopefully, we can catch lightning in a bottle like they did on that meteoric run. Case Keenum in the role of Backup QB with past success and past failures that can come in a win if need be. Of course neither Keenum or any other backup QB will likely ever replicate that wild level of play Foles did in that Super Bowl playoff run.

  9. I'm here for the Jacob Eason meteoric rise. Interesting to see Andrew Thomas fall past 12. I think that by draft time both Thomas and Wirfs are going to be more mid-round projected guys although. Much like the top draftnik's I just don't see Wills making it to us. It would be sickening to see Wills and Kinlaw go right before us as in that mock. I'd rather trade up for Wills or trade down if Wills, Okudah, Kinlaw, Brown, and Simmons are off the board instead of take Wirfs as a Tackle at 10. If it's between Becton or Wirfs at 10 as a Tackle, I'm convinced Becton has much more success as a Tackle, and I really think Wirfs is going to struggle for years at that position if forced to play there. Although in Zierlein's mock, I rather have Andrew Thomas over both of them at Tackle. We needed Larry Fitz to retire and Kingsbury to fall in love with CeeDee Lamb for Kyler. At this point, we need some prospect hero to jump into that top 10 with the 3 QBs to push one of those guys down to us. I've given up on the possibility of Wills making it to us. He's too young and too talented.
  10. oh he's definitely wearing nerd glasses in that picture.. they're just hard to see in that old picture... lol
  11. Van Pelt is a fantastic QB Coach and creates additional QBC/OC redundancies on the staff which is a positive. However, MKC takes a ton of liberties there as Van Pelt's offensive experience and the system's he's called in the past are West Coast schemes much different than the Kubiak and Shannahan WCO but instead more aligned with the Paul Hackett, Gruden and Holmgren WCO. Going back to his time at Pitt as a player he's been around and worked with Mike McCarthy and Jon Gruden as they were birthed into West Coaching Offense under Pitt HC Paul Hackett. That system and playbook (https://www.footballxos.com/download/2001-ny-jets-offense-pdf/?wpdmdl=4221&ind=0 is a much different texture and operation than the Gibbs/Ferentz/Shanahan/Kubiak WCO. Variations and adaptations of the Hackett/Gruden WCO have been what Van Pelt has implemented in each one of his stops. The good news is that system is insanely detail oriented on QB footwork and eye training and makes each QB be a graduate level thinker in order to effectively run the offense. The connection to the Kubiak system has likely come as all WCO coaches expand their knowledge throughout their careers. There is an explicit connection as well as Van Pelt worked with Brian Callahan (son of Browns OLC Bill Callahan) with the Bengals last year and one of Brian's biggest influencers during his time in Denver was Gary Kubiak during 2015 to 2016 as Head Coach, as well as 2017 to 2018 as Senior Personnel Advisor. In the year working with Callahan, there's no doubt that Van Pelt absolutely picked up on the Kubiak playbook and scheme; however, it's one thing to have been exposed to a scheme and philosophy in-depth for a year and another thing to have graduate level expertise and play-call instincts that fit that system. Van Pelt may have sold himself in the interview with Stefanski as wanting to go forward with that scheme as his new play-calling philosophy while integrating the Hackett/Gruden/Holmgren/McCarthy philosophies he's been accustomed to calling and installing as an OC in the past. Maybe he expressed that he's been all in on that system for years now, but hasn't had the opportunity to show so as a play-caller yet. Will be interesting to see what's what. Here's to hoping Van Pelt can either adapt or has completely bought in to ZBS WCO. There's an interesting offensive scheme diversity in the room, but I'd rather another main ZBS guy be hired as QBC so that we don't drift away to other offensive philosophies. I also would rather Van Pelt be the QBC with Coordinator title and Scangarello be the OC in name as Van Pelt is the superior QBC. I still wonder if Stefanski decides to be the ZBS expert in the room and call plays with the collaboration of others or if instead the play-calling will be handed over to Van Pelt. Will be interesting to see the QBC development. It would also be great if he could pull 1 Quality Coach from the 49ers and 1 from the Vikings who are rising talented ZBS coaches. The two that I hope we can get here are Taylor Embree and Christian Jones. Both are thought to be ascending offensive coaches. Both could develop into core Offensive coaches or OCs in time; both are over-qualified for the position; and both are African American which would be a positive add in the thought/perspective/experience diversity on a staff that currently is missing that positive organizational element.

  13. Interesting. I see an ultra competitor guy that will run and chase beyond the whistle, explosive, nasty mentality, plays all out in the 4th quarter even when the game is decided, slippery, quick guy with good but not heavy hands who will be better in the pass than the run in the pros. Eye and ball awareness deficiencies. doesn't rush with a plan; lacks advanced hand combat skills. I think he's a mid 2nd round guy to early 2nd round talent with quality starter upside. He's better than Christian Wilkins who everyone raved about as a next level guy last year when I thought thought he was an amazing intangibles rotational starter but not a high impact quality starter. We'll see what he becomes as our evals disagree.
  14. Sometimes the Senior Bowl Buzz matches the tape sometimes it doesn't. The Senior Bowl buzz shines a light on various players to either watch for the first time or re-watch. However, sometimes the practices and 1-on-1 drills create scenarios that mask player weaknesses. Jonah Jackson, OG Ohio State is on the opposite side of the spectrum as his Senior Bowl Buzz couldn't be higher, but his tape illustrated a players who's deficiencies were masked well by the one-on-one and practice play drill restraints. He shines as a linear, straight ahead blocker who's a competitive strong greco roman wrestler blocker. Those skills are accentuated in Senior Bowl drills and limited stunts and delayed blitz calls of the Senior Bowl defenses. When watching him play in real game context, he has terrible lateral movement skills, lateral agility, change of direction quickness/fluidity, and poor ability to locate and block down the field or in space. The Stunt and Twist drills at the Senior Bowl also illustrated those weaknesses but Jackson sat out many reps while getting his foot looked at. In real games if there's a late blitzers or a stunt that requires horizontal movement Jackson is a non-entity and will struggle mightily at the next level. If he can play heacds up straight ahead he'll be fine, but that's not the NFL Game. If we draft him, it's a misprojection and misevaluation for a ZBS. Jared Pinkney, TE Vanderbilt is the type of player that was always going to be exposed as all the positive buzz on him before the college season started (i.e., tons of Draftniks having him in the 1st round) never matched the play traits and abilities displayed on film. His tape has always been buttcheeks and the more people see him realize that they had misevaluations of his ability from the outset. Misevaluation is common when scouting players and evaluations change and adapt. The same people that had Pinkney in the 1st now see him as a late round pick at best. ' P.S. ... Went back and watched Grant Delpit's games from 18 and 19.. wasn't just his tackling this year.. his eyes, mental trigger and angles are just buttcheeks.. Antoine Winfield Jr. is light years ahead of Delpit as a prospect. Delpit is fools gold that is going to be there in the 2nd round with fans/teams thinking he's great value in round 2, but he's going to struggle as a starter and that's not worth a 2nd round selection especially high to mid 2nd.
  15. Kinlaw and Becton are the two others I could see getting into the top 10. In this WR Class, I just can't see any of the top 10 teams going Lamb or Jeudy over other premium positions, but maybe I'm wrong. I think the league sees Wirfs as a Guard mostly. And his sloppy at times tape will push him to the 12-18 range. Epenesa is the wild card edge player but he's more steady eddy than a dominant player destined for top 10. If not those 6 non-QBs, then Kinlaw or Becton, but I'd be shocked unless a combine mishap occurs if those 6 + Kinlaw+ Becton aren't the players that variably go top 10.
  16. I think the first 9 players off the board are set. I don't know where each is going to be selected, but that they'll all likely come off the board before 10. ---------- 1.) Chase Young, DE Ohio STate 2.) Jedrick Wills Jr., OT Alabama 3.) Jeffrey Okudah, CB Ohio State 4.) Isaiah Simmons, Hybrid-LB Clemson 5.) Derrick Brown, DT Auburn 6.) Joe Burrow, QB LSU 7.) Tua Tagovailoa, QB Alabama 8.) Justin Herbert, QB Oregon 9.) Andrew Thomas, LT Georgia ----------- I think if that situation plays out then it will be just like the year that we were waiting for Deforest Buckner to fall to us at 8 but he didn't. As long as one of those 6 non-QBs are on the board, I think we stay put and make the selection. If not, much like the DeForest Buckner scenario, I believe we trade down.
  17. A lot of scouts think he's a better prospect than Marshon Lattimore. I think you'd have to take him as we've had two seasons of multiple games missed with Ward and 1 rookie season of multiple games missed with Greedy.

  19. Spliffs? Spliffs are trash lol. I have no doubt that some combination of the UnPatriotic-Trippy-Dippy-Lettuce and/or the Elixir of Stumbles (or whatever you Generation Z'ers are calling them nowadays) might give him some pain relief and escape for a few hours until he comes down ... then whatever is troubling him or is driving his depression (as he reported himself in the past) will still be waiting for him on the other side of the high ... ... he needs some deeper help and support ... as we all can benefit from at any given time in this crazy life and world...
  20. The biggest take-aways from Kareem's 46-minute arrest video are that he sounded and looked like a human being in psychological and emotional crisis and needs some help immediately.. The young man needs some help and depression counseling before he spirals down further. Without any football considerations, I hope he gets the help and those around him are intervening to stabilize him and get him back to health. Football-wise, things like this are why you can't just replace all around stable, productive on the field, and quality locker room guys like Duke Johnson with a more talented guy with issues like Kareem Hunt.... why you can't replace a Rasard Higgins with a more talented guy with issues like Antonio Callaway... their real human issues even if we want the best for them make it hard to rely on their quality production on and off the field...
