1st round picks are overrated iyam. The GOAT Thomas Edward Brady Jr went in the 6th round!!! The best WR in the game Antonio Brown was a 6th rounder!!! 1st round picks now a days net you the likes of Solomon Thomas SMH.

All kidding aside, the Niners have been pretty good at finding useful, or at least intriguing guys in the 6th and 7th rounds the last two years.

6th Round

  • D.J. Jones
  • Marcell Harris

7th Round

  • Adrian Colbert
  • Jullian Taylor
  • Richie James

I'd say Shanny and Lynch have been pretty good at identifying talent in the later rounds and coaching them up to stick on the 53.

And they have found some nice contributing UDFAs as well.

Not to mention udfas Breida, mags, Mullens and Bourne.

That being said, that's kind of the problem. We have been really good at grabbing niche and role players, but we still lack top end playmakers besides a couple of notables

Good point on the UDFAs. Great teams are made up with niche, role-player type guys and a few stars at the top. At least, sustainable good teams are. Completely whiffing on Foster really hurts, but I'd say the past two drafts have been our best since 2011.

But why would a team jump all the way up to #1, or even #2, for him? Let's say the bidding war for Haskins comes down to the Giants, Jags, and Broncos. One of these teams only needs to move up to #5 to outbid the Giants. I just don't see it being likely that a team moves up to #1 to take Haskins, unless the 49ers manufacture a market for #2 to make QB-needy teams nervous. To me, it sounds like the Raiders or the Bucs are in a prime position to take advantage of this situation.

Because when he's your guy you go and get him without leaving any options of losing out.

I get that, but you also have to be smart when trading up that high. Haskins is a big risk when comparing him to recent high first round QB's, but if a team falls in love with him enough to trade up that high, then great. Personally, I just don't think it happens.

So can Alabama still beat the Raiders???? Lol, but man Clemson is good. Soooo many NFL players on that team. Still, can't help but feel a bit disappointed at Alabama's play calling, especially in the RZ. This shouldn't be a 28 point game right now.

Their defense has been really bad too. That line has gotten largely owned in the passing game.

Reading some rumors on Walter about the draft. One indicated that in NFL scouts that he had talked to, Brians Burns is very possibly going to fall into round 2.

Quote

To see if Burns could have that potential, WalterFootball.com surveyed a handful of team sources who have graded Burns, and none of those teams has Burns as a high first-round pick. In fact, they all had graded Burns on the second day of the 2019 NFL Draft.

One area scout said they had given Burns a late second-/early third-round grade. They said there was no way they could take Burns in the first round. The most optimistic view came from a national scout who said that they could perhaps see Burns sneaking into the very end of the first round. Here is what they texted about Burns, "Great athlete. No chance at the top 10. Possible late first-round pick, but much closer to Day 2."

A national scout from a perennial Super Bowl contender texted this, "He's not going top 10. That's ridiculous." In speaking to a director of college scouting, they said they also had Burns as a second-round pick and thought he could get overhyped by the media because of his athletic traits and upside.

Some of those scouts also graded other speed edge rushers in the same regional territory with Florida's Jachai Polite and Mississippi State's Montez Sweat. That group said they had Burns graded behind both Polite and Sweat.

IN another article, they indicated that Thompson was falling down boards and nobody was certain that he would actually declare after the championship because of some sluggish play in the back half of the season and his slight frame.
