Still very profitable and that's not even counting the merchandise. The Last Jedi merchandise is also way down compared to both The Force Awakens and Rogue One. This was on track to be, easily, the 2nd biggest movie ever domestically. The drop off it's suffered is worrisome. Ending up 6th should not be considered a bomb, but definitely disappointing. THE DUKE
Disappointing I can see. Bomb is just hyperbole. Bombs don't make you half a billion dollars.
devils1854
Friday Estimates 1. Jumanji: #WelcomeToTheJungle - $6.13M 2. #ThePost - $5.90M 3. #TheCommuter - $4.56M 4. #Insidious #TheLastKey - $3.42M 5. #ProudMary - $3.18M 6. #GreatestShowman - $3.05M 7. #StarWarsTheLastJedi - $2.72M Star Wars in in 7th place in only their 4th week. Yeah, this is totally not a disaster for Disney.
Acgott
Call it that if you wish, but the #6 movie all time domestically is in no way disaterous. Disastrous kills a franchise. This is a disappointment but certainly not close to being a doomsday scenario for Disney.

Yeah, this is totally not a disaster for Disney. It lost 92% of its theaters in China after 1 week because it opened so low.

The bad thing is, Disney tried to pander to the Chinese audience by introducing an Asian character. They get an Vietnamese actress. The Chinese hate people from that country. Disney has the Vietnamese actress kiss a black guy. The Chinese really hate that. Kathleen Kennedy force feeding her views into the movie has backfired in her face. Its much like Transformers adding the famous Chinese singer into the movie. Brings in the people, but Disney really screwed the pooch since the Asian character is not Chinese, and they put her in a relationship with a black guy. No one has even said that the Chinese were one of the most welcoming and open people.

I mean, you'd think someone in their marketing department would have brought this up if it was indeed a move meant to garner more Chinese interest. Certain attitudes held by the Chinese clash with some things presented in the film, as you've brought up. It's not exactly something that's unknown; especially if you work for Disney and it's your job to know.
devils1854
Disney's and Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, meanwhile, didn't even put up a fight. Only in its second weekend on Chinese screens, The Last Jedi pulled in a paltry $2.4 million — a 92 percent decline from its disappointing $28.7 million debut, according to data from EntGroup. The Star Wars franchise, never popular in China, appears to be on a precipitous decline in the Middle Kingdom, the world's second-largest film territory. With $39 million after two weekends and shedding screens by the day, it's clear that Last Jedi won't make even half of The Force Awakens' $124 million China total, and won't even come close to matching Rogue One's $69 million haul. Wow, so this is a well-established pattern of decreased interest by the Chinese.
MacReady
I'm sorry, but I'm not sorry Star Wars failed in China. I'm among those who loved TLJ, but it is abundantly clear that Disney did one specific thing 100% and unmistakably to try to sell more tickets in China, and it was a stupid thing, and it didn't help. Maybe now they'll focus on making the best movie they can instead of doing things to try to sell more tickets.
