Motivation

We have the possibility to clinch the Pacific this week, and with a tough schedule coming up, it might be our only chance to do so. Let’s GO

Offense

Pass, pass, pass.Hawaii brings a subpar back seven this week, and we will go with a pass heavy gameplan this week (65/35) to take advantage of it.

Target Hawaii LBs and safeties. Travis Kelce will see a ton of targets this week as he’s huge mismatch for everyone Hawaii as on roster. Hawaii coach seems to have a blind confidence on KJ Wright and Roquan Smith so he might be single coverage throughout the game. If so, expect him to receive around 15 targets. If he’s doubled with Weddle, and even moreso with Ron Parker (worst safety in the NFL started for Hawaii next week. Yikes), expect him to sill receive targets.

We think we can also beat Swearinger and Weddle deep, especially if Hawaii runs a zone coverage, cover 2 or cover 3. Hilton, Wiliams, Kelce and Everett when he’s on the field will frequently run deep routes and if we can get a WR vs a S matchup there, Matt Ryan will launch it. If/when Ron Parker is on the field, we will target his area every time. If Hawaii runs man or cover 3 and we have single coverage on Williams or Hilton with Hayward or Lattimore, we will still target it, as we believe Matt Ryan can make the right throw to beat them.

Another area we can work on is the middle of the field. Amendola presence in the middle of the field will be looked for often well, as we think he can beat Williams in man or Hawaii LBs and safeties in zone. Finally, we want to involve Drake in the passing too, via wheel routes mainly. Roquan Smith is athletic but if KJ wright is matched up vs Kenyan Drake, we will try to take advantage of it with wheel routes on a couple of occasions.

Screen and trick plays.Like last week, we want to get our WR screen game going, with Hilton mainly. We will use Antonio Callaway blocking skills to maximize our chances there. We will also have a couple of trick plays, one flea flicker with Jordan Howard, a couple of end arounds with Hilton and Amendola, and fake end around that will end up being a pass by Amendola to Williams deep if we can catch Hawaii defense off guard.

Run inside and outside vs Ansah/Landry/ClarkWhile we will run a pass heavy gameplan, we think we can still have some success in the run game. Howard, Drake and Ward will alternate and we will use each player skillset to get our run game going. Howard will run inside, trying to tire out an interior defensive front with little depth. Drake will run mostly outside on the opposite side of Clowney. Ansah is banged up and has never been a great run defender, while the rest of Hawaii edge players are pass rush specialist. Hawaii likes to play those players on the left side so they should be handled easily by Schraeder who’s one of the best run blockers at RT in the NFL. Spencer Ware will be used as a jack of all trades, in the running and in the passing game

Protect Matty Ice. We like our 1vs1 matchups in this one, especially if Stanley plays, so we will shift protection to the right side of our line often to give Schraeder help vs Clark/Ansah/Landry in the passing game. When he’s on the field, Jordan Howard will also stay more often than not in pass protection to help Schraeder.

Defense

Heavy DL.This week we are running a heavy defensive front, hoping to stop Barkley from getting it going on the ground and to smother Hawaii OL. While we think our corners 1 to 4 are one of the best groups in BDL, the same can be said about Hawaii WRs so we will look for our advantage in the trenches.

McLendon will man up the middle of the line and give everything he can handle to Ryan Kelly, while freeing McCoy and Atkins who will have 1vs1 matchups. McCoy should easily handle Hawaii RG and Atkins will face Yanda, who he beat for 2 sacks earlier this year (Yanda himself told Atkins is too good for him). 3 interior DL will also give a decent matchup to Ingram vs Decker and will isolate Chubb vs Whitworth, whom he beat for 3 sacks this year too).

We will implement some rotation inside and outside. We expect Ingram and Chubb to play 65% of the snaps, McCoy 70%, Geno 85% and McLendon around 50%.

A premium has been put on sealing the edges, to both our OLBs but also to Hicks and Reid, who will play in the box all game, as Barkley has been really dangerous this year as soon as he was able to bounce outside.

Mix man coverage and cover 3.We will rely on our back 6 to hold on vs Hawaii stud weapons and let our DL win us the game. For that we will mix man coverage and cover 3. In man, Slay the best outside receiver of Hawaii (AB > Diggs > Gordon), Desir gets the second one. Fuller mans the slot and Taron Johnson gets the other inside receiver in 4WR sets. Justin Reid gets Saquon in coverage and Hicks gets the TE. Williams plays deep centerfield to help prevent catch and run opportunities but also grab an INT if Russ makes a mistake under pressure. If Russ runs outside the pocket, Williams will adjust and follow him, as we don’t think Wilson throws across his body on the other side of the field.

In cover 3, we will have an OLB drop into a flat. For that reason, expect a lot of Hightower playing as an OLB in this game. With him instead of Ingram/Chubb, we can keep our defense unpredictable as Dont’a can rush the passer, drop into coverage, fake a rush and drop back, or run a delayed blitz. As Sancho used to say, Hightower will be our X Factor in this game.

If Dion Lewis plays instead of a WR, Terrell Edmunds comes in for Fuller and will play the same role than Reid, with Lewis assignment in overage. If Hawaii inserts a 2ndTE, Bradham gets in for Fuller. If Hawaii plays Kirk or Doctson, Johnson comes in for McLendon.

Hawaii Nightmarchers

Offense

Running game – We meet up with the Seoul this week at home. We plan on keeping Saquon rolling with at least 25 touches both on the ground and through the air. We will attack the edges of the Seoul defense as Melvin Ingram is an outside linebacker playing DE and Bradley Chubb is a rookie that has been susceptible to the run this season. We’ll feature pulling guards to get blockers on the edge and gain big yardage.

Passing game – The passing game is where we will put up big numbers and yardage against the Seoul. We’re going to go 4 wide as our base set to challenge the depth of the Seoul secondary. With Darby getting injured the Seoul only have 3 healthy CBs which would have had a rough go facing AB, Stefon Diggs, and Josh Gordon in a normal lineup but we’re going to put Christian Kirk in there to blow the top off and put up stupid points.

Defense

DL/LB – At DL we’ll again be starting Clowney and Ansah on the edge, with Buckner and Rankins in the middle. The defensive line will keep a tight formation and make sure to shut down Jordan Howard making the Seoul one dimensional and forcing Matty Ice to beat us. Our base sets will be three LBs with Roquon, KJ Wright, and Brandon Marshall holding down the fort in the middle, if they only go three wide Brandon Marshall come off the field for K’Wuan Williams.

Secondary – This week we will be using a cover one press man base in the secondary. Hayward will get TY Hilton and jam him at the line all day. Lattimore will get Tyrell Williams, K’Wuan Williams will come in nickel packages. DJ Swearinger will man centerfield and shade heavily towards TY’s side making sure to limit any big plays from him. KJ Wright will cover Kelce with Eric Weddle bracketing him over the top. If they go two TEs Roquon will get Everett.

TL;DR – We plan on putting up huge points against an injured secondary. TY Hilton and Travis Kelce will draw double coverage to limit the Seoul playmakers.

Marshall was out too ftr.

Yikes. That means Ron Parker is there on 2TE sets? Double Yikes.

Also, and I will pass on the 3 healthy CBs thing coz I think Hockey forgot about Darius Slay, but I loled at the Ingram bit. First of all the Chargers play in a 4-3 so he's not an OLB. Second he's playing vs one of the worst run blocking tackle in the NFL in Decker. Not sure I would emphasize that matchup if I were him.

I'm taking Hawaii in this one.  Even with KJ Wright and Marshall out.  I think Whitehead is underrated and the team does have Kyler Fackrell on the bench how is listed as a LB irl who started this week against seattle and managed 3 sacks and combined 6 tackles.

I hate commenting on match-ups but I just want to make a couple notes:

Based on the line-up the Seoul chose my base line-up would be the Nickle in which the 3rd LB could come of the field for a CB making the injury affect to my gameplan minimal.

Based on the offensive line-up I chose Seoul's base formation would be dime which would take the additional DL off the field that is being used to target the counter the run. A cover 3 "dime" defense (which isn't a thing) would be insanely taxing on the LBs to either commit to the run as suggested or cover the hole in the middle of the defense. There's also the fun line in there about taking an edge rusher out of the game for Hightower to cover the flat which would further reduce the defense to a 3-3-5, not the 5-2 that is suggested by his line-up. Can't have a heavy front against the run and a 3-3-5 against the pass at the same time.

Would be great if we could simplify how the game plans are structured.  So much of what I read and guilty myself of trying to cover every possible scenario that the entire write up just becomes confusing and long winded.

Would love to bring a debate after the season is over to see if we can't do something about it.

I struggle with it as well since it's so free formed. After a few different variations over the last season and a half I settled on the structure I use now because it covers the base sets and the majority of the plan and quite frankly it doesn't take me multiple hours over multiple days to write.

That's a philosophical debate. Base lineups are what they are, but they don't mean you're playing 100% of the game with it. I usually talk about the players I want to involve in the game, and different sets I'm using. Here I mentioned Everett and Callaway. I didn't mention specifically 2TE sets but I'm guessing it's obvious that I'd use Everett on 2TE sets.

Also, the cover 3 is not with the dime package. I tried to construct my gameplans with man and zone paragraphs, and only elude to dime packages in man. Obviously I could have developed more on the 4WR sets, but if I write a paragraph on each set you can run, then it's too long and people will complain. And I couldn't expect that you'd forgot about my #1 corner :D

The thing with your gameplans is that some (not me necessarily) will complain that you only give one coverage scheme and that things become more predictable for the opposing offenses.

Side note, Hightower would play the exact same position than Ingram or Chubb, as it is stated in my gameplan. He'd be considered as an OLB, who can rush the passer, cover the flat etc. Same role that Chubb/Ingram, except he'll probably more involved in coverage compared to the other guys. And it's not a 3-3-5 but, at worst a 3-4-4 since Reid is playing as a LB.

That's exactly what I'm struggling with.  It takes me a good 3 hours minimum, to sort out who's hurt or inactive for my team and my opponents team, take a little bit to see how the opponent has been running their offense/ defense.  Create a game plan each week and try not to have a generic plan, although the only thing that has forced it of late is injuries.

Then I've got to read the other game plans and make a determination on who would win.  Don't get me wrong though, I really like the system and the voting and all but it does take a lot of time throughout the week to do all of this.  When a little structure to this would save us hours out of the week to accomplish the same thing.

@Hockey5djh

I did up a quick form, that would provide a set structure for submitting the game plans.  I just did a sample so it doesn't house a complete system, but what the form does is reduces the number of offensive formations down to 3 the primary, secondary and subpackage ex. Goalline

The game plan has 3 entries Offensive Line - Passing and Rushing with each one having a character count limit of 300.

Again, I put this together rather quickly so the layout may not be exactly what we would all agree on but its a start for a discussion.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeoNGkX8Mybpusg-Vrt15CZmKGy5b642T-4vEVeVfHY1CXV2Q/viewform?usp=sf_link

The responses can be set up to be viewed either in a workbook or transferred to the forum.  Personally, I think the workbook is best so we aren't reliant upon having someone post them each week, if you haven't done this before it does take some time to piece it all together and the formatting from everyone is so different that it always looks like crap visually when its all posted up.

Even if this wasn't done using google forms I think we need some structure to this.
