Rome Eternals

Motivation

We need this win the keep the number one seed and will be playing hard to maintain it.

Offense

This week we welcome in OKC and their excellent defensive line.  However, they also bring in one of the leagues worst corner back units which we plan to exploit

We will generally open up the formation with three wr  and bring Edelman in motion to the wide side of the field.  This motion will let us know when OKC is in man as we like the majority of our match-ups and will attack any non Peterson corner all game long.  Pff stat of the week. Shaq Griffen and PJ Williams are both in the 100s! in terms of ranked CB behind such duds as Buster Skrine and Malcom Butler.  We expect Edelman and Juju /Amari to have field days against whoever they are matched up against. Inman serves as the fourth wr on long downs to attack Williams or Fabian Moreau.  Expect us to get some quick hitting routes early and bust them with some double moves and streaks late. If left one on one expect Edelman and non PP7 covered wr to get at least ten targets each

Up front we recognize the need for help for Robinson (who surprisingly has been a steadying presence for Cleveland at LT since they put him in and not a big bag of suck).  Reed will line up next to Robinson and will chip Miller before heading into the flat or drag route or just flat out double teaming him all play In four wide the RB gets this assignment

If Seoul does something stupid like play five DL expect Gurley to get sent out in motion as we can get easy wheel and slant routes against a lb /safety   Gurley is gonna get about 20 touches between the passing and running game. We are gonna use a fair amount of draw plays to slow down the edge rushers and get the lbs moving backwards first.  We also are going to incorporate more screens as an extension of the running game This strategy also works if they decide to double two WR

We will rotate in mack on early downs and Lindsay on third downs occasionally to give Gurley a break.  We even have a short yardage package with two te and a fb

We will also throw out a five WR look on our first drive to see if OKC brought a fifth corner with them.  If not, expect us to run five wide about 10% of the time to get some mismatches with a roll out right away from Miller   If Brees reads zone from the Edelman motion he will audible to floods and seams

Tl/Dr.  Attack the non PP7 secondary.  Motion to gauge coverage, trip formations to beat zones.  Screens and draws with Gurley to get him in space Give Robinson help every passing play

Defense

This week we face the RPO Heavy mobile qb game of OKC.  To beat this defense you need to make the QB pay for running the option.

The easiest way to stop the RPO is to trust your LB to make plays in the run game and kill the QB.  So our edge opposite side of the RB who Cam will be reading has zero run responsibilities. His job will be to light Cam up if he doesn't hand the ball off.  We are gonna force OKC and Mixon to beat us in the run game and we don't think that he can with our beef interior line and superb LB group with Addae normally in the box as well

On the outside we have Marlon Humphrey on woods and Amukamara on theilan.  Nrc gets the slot wr and should shut him down. Jackson is the fourth corner with Jenkins available for five wide.

We hope OKC stays in the two TE look cause it allows us to play Anzalone and have three extremely athletic LB on the field.  The LB don't have particular player assignments. They take the TE on their side with the other LB taking the RB

Cam has become more of a dink and dunk passed this year after offseason shoulder surgery.  In fact he only has two completions over 40 yards all season long so we are gonna play physical at the line to take away the quick hitting routes and throw off timing.  We will be playing a cover one with our safeties. Thompson will be playing the deep CF role shading towards the theilan side while Addae plays middle robber and Cam spy. Addae is not the greatest cover safety but he's one of the hardest hitters from the safety spot

Up front we welcome back Marcus Davenport to the starting lineup on one edge while Dunlap gets the other. Pennel provides the beef while ioannidis provides interior pressure rotating with Pennel on pass/run downs when we need more interior pressure. Tomlinson gives us another middle of the line clogger.  Brockers and Ebukam will provide quality depth.

We will mix in some zones and blitzes with zone to keep Cam guessing but mostly will roll with man.

Tl/dr

Don't let RPO/Cam beat us.  Take away short to intermediate pass game

Oklahoma City EF5s

This week we look to retain our division lead with a big late season showdown with the defending champs. Rome brings a strong team to the table, but they lack a lot of star power, especially on the defensive side, and we feel we can take advantage of a few key matchups.

Offense:

With Melvin Gordon ailing, we're going to spread the field and utilize our deep and dynamic set of wide receivers to stress the Rome defense.

One serious weakness to the Rome defense is their defensive line, and we feel we can take advantage of this with a spread offense. We believe that, combined with Cam Newton's natural mobility, our offensive line can handle Rome's four man rush, giving our receivers plenty of time to work against the Rome corners.

Our first goal of our spread offense is to stress Rome's linebacker. With 4 WRs on the field, Rome will likely have to go down to one linebacker. Despite excellent play from Leighton Vander Esch, he cannot cover a running back and spy Cam Newton at the same time. We are going to have our running back work the middle of the field as a receiver. If the RB draws coverage from the linebacker, Newton will have plenty of open field to run if he cannot find a matchup he likes. We will also plan for some jet sweeps and misdirections with our wide receivers to try and get the linebackers moving the wrong way.

Our second goal will be to stress the Rome safeties. We don't have a ton of respect for any of Rome's safeties and we want to take advantage of them whenever possible. Deep passing will be a priority if the safeties cheat up pre-snap.

We will also utilize some empty sets both with and without Joe Mixon as a receiver. With Cam Newton and with several of our wide receivers having experience with jet sweeps and other wide receiver runs, we feel like we can threaten the run out of empty sets.

Adam Thielen will operate mostly out of the slot as we want to match him up against the slot-only corner in Nickell Robey-Coleman. Our other three receivers will rotate playing inside and out with all of them being involved in misdirection as needed.

Joe Mixon will be our feature back with Giovani Bernard spelling him as necessary. Despite operating out of a spread offense, we do want to establish the run against the Rome defensive line. We will run fairly often against 5 man boxes, running both inside and out.

If Bakhtiari is unable to go, Le'Raven Clark will replace him at LT. We will utilize quick passes to mitigate edge pressure and other times roll Newton to the right. We will continue to trust Newton to extend plays against a sub-par defensive line and continue to trust our talented receiving group to find their way open.

Defense:

We aren't going to do anything special this week on defense, as we feel like we can adequately contain Todd Gurley and pressure Drew Brees with few adjustments to our normal defensive looks.

Tyron Smith is out for this week and Rome will likely turn to Greg Robinson at LT. Of course, we will let Von Miller line up across from Robinson and attack the edge hard. We doubt that Rome will allow this 1v1, and we expect Robinson to receive tight end or full back help.

If Rome does provide help against Miller, we will send an additional rusher. Most of the time, Lorenzo Alexander will be the extra rusher, but we will mix it up on occasion. These blitzes will come from everywhere, but we mainly want to apply extra pressure to the A gaps as Brees has historically struggled with interior pressure. Rome has been sporting Russell Bodine at C for the past couple of weeks, and we expect that to finally break down this week. If Rome doesn't provide an extra man against Miller, we will, of course, use this extra rusher to cover him.

Patrick Peterson will cover JuJu Smith-Schuster and Shaquill Griffin will cover Amari Cooper. Michael Davis will cover Julian Edelman and he will receive help over the top from Malik Hooker. Adrian Amos and Darron Lee will double team Todd Gurley. When Gurley is off the field, Darron Lee will blitz while Amos takes the RB solo.

Against a four wide, Fabian Moreau will come onto the field and cover the 4th WR. Against 5 wide, Jordan Poyer will take the 5th WR. If Rome uses a heavier set with a TE and a FB, Michael Davis will come off the field for Cory Littleton.

So Bulaga left early with the same knee injury he was questionable with and le'raven Clark was inactive.

Zach Fulton at Left tackle?  Lol

Amari Cooper again gets one on one with an awful corner with cover zero and Reed will be wide open in the flats if he just chips for a second I'm guessing

Yep wrong ot.  But that doesn't change cam can't throw deep and an awful corner on Cooper and a glorified de on Reed (though he's probably rushing when Reed starts by blocking which leaves him wide open with no one on him )

So you not only trash him while talking about the total wrong OT, you then reference the wrong team in attacking Seoul at one point. Genius, and you've got the nerve to just constantly attack.

Holy hell dude almost the entire thing is C+P'd. Here's a link to last week. If you're going to be as disrespectful as you are in the commentary, at least have the decency to actually write the game plan each week.
