Exactly. If you are ranking or rebuilding. Going after comp picks is some what smart.

Or if you’re a talented team that is up against the cap and can’t afford all of their free agents as has been the case with teams like the Bengals, Ravens, Patriots, Steelers, etc.

True but a talented team would rather have players than comp cause they are in win now mode.

You can’t afford them all, it’s how guys like Marvin Jones, Kevin Zeitler, Sanu, etc came to leave Cincy.  Same applies to a lot of good teams.

The Ravens have lost defensive starters for years because they couldn’t match what the payer could receive on the open market (Kruger being just one example).  They’ll likely see it this year with a couple of their guys too.

The Ravens are the perfect example.  Ozzie clearly cared a LOT about comp picks, since he often chose to sign guys who were cut versus guys who had their contracts expire.  It seems like they always had multiple comp picks every year during the Ozzie regime.

Remember that if we sign someone at the same position for similar money, it offsets and we dont get a pick. Down the line this is probably a strategy but our roster isn't there yet and we r wayyyyy to far below the cap to get cheap

We can win the division THIS YEAR, re sign who u need too, it won't affect future cap concerns.
