fretgod99
It's always nice to see how the next wave of Panthers are developing. Which UDFA is blowing it up? Which top pick is having trouble adjusting? Even casual fans are curious how their favorite college player might be doing at the next level. So let's talk about that here. If there is a big news story feel free to open up a new thread where we can talk about that more in depth. This is for more general rookie talk that doesn't really merit it's own thread. 2017 Carolina Panthers Draft Round 1, Pick 8: Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford Round 2, Pick 40: Curtis Samuel, WR, Ohio State Round 2, Pick 64 (from Patriots): Taylor Moton, OT, Western Michigan Round 3, Pick 77 (from Cardinals): Daeshon Hall, DE, Texas A&M Round 5, Pick 152: Corn Elder, CB, Miami Round 6, Pick 192: Alex Armah, FB, West Georgia Round 7, Pick 233 (from Colts through Browns): Harrison Butker, K, Georgia Tech Some Key UDFA Fred Ross, WR, Mississippi State Austin Duke, WR, UNC-Charlotte Bryan Cox, Jr., DL, Florida Ben Boulware, LB, Clemson Cole Luke, CB, Notre Dame

Dome
For real though I love McCaffrey. I knew the Panthers would nab him too. He's gonna be a fantastic dual threat. I figured if the Saints somehow snagged him he would play about 50/50 WR and RB. How do the Panthers plan to use him?

We generally haven't been too creative with offensive personnel, but to be fair the most dynamic player we ever had before McCaffrey was Ted Ginn
Dome
I feel like Tolbert was used well when he was younger. Read option fake handoff to Stewart with a screen pass to McCaffrey will hurt a lot of teams this year.
fretgod99
I think McCaffrey is probably going to be a slash player. RB who motions to the slot quite a bit. Hopefully they'll up their screen game, too.

That's true, although I remember one season in particular they had a real thing for trying to connect to Tolbert on crossing routes, wasn't the most effective strategy. With how obvious it was that McCaffrey was the main target in the draft, I'm sure they have some things in mind to make use of his talent. Motioning him to the slot, some option plays, probably a lot of dual-RB backfields. Probably won't be a "starter", but I'm sure he'll see the field a good bit.
