One guy is crucified with every mistake and is constantly in the national media as a joke. In fact, the only really "decent" year of Bortles' career thus far, is that 4th season that Mariota is just heading into. And "our guy" sucked so horrifically in the preseason last year that there were people legitimately calling for Chad Henne or even that other noodle armed kid to potentially start over him in a "Camp QB Battle". But even then, the more important point is still what @JaguarCrazy2832 is getting at there. Mariota being sucky doesn't in any way make Bortles any less bad. The way for Bortles to become not a joke in the national media...is to stop sucking and be actually good, consistently. Just as for Mariota...that shine is going to come off awfully soon (imo already is a bit) if he puts together another clunker of a season. That'll take care of itself. Ultimately, it'll all mostly take of itself. Play well, eventually they'll get recognized for it. Play poorly, and eventually you're going to become a laughingstock. Same routine with our team as a whole...total laughingstock of the league for a very long time. Get to the AFC Championship game with a beastly defense and show that you can hang with the bonafide big dogs like Stillers and Pats, and suddenly the national media aren't laughing (at our defense and running game at least). Comes off as really weird and insecure how obsessed a lot of Jags fans seem with defending Bortles by attacking another bad QB in the division. Given that the majority of the trashing of Bortles has come from the Titans, I just see it as fair play. They had an entire thread last year devolve into “lol Blake is bad” for 10 pages or something. One of their star players specifically came out and trashed Blake. Call it insecure if you want. I just see it as giving them what they gave us.
