Just now, RuskieTitan said:

Thought it was discussed last year how it would be handled if he returned, seemed like the consensus was that whatever team a player was on would get first dibs upon unretirement.

I don't know.

I'm too busy getting hyped about the 2020 season we're not gonna have.

I have no idea what the rules are, so I shoot my shot

I don't recall that conversation, but it certainly could be the case

Nacho will obviously be the arbiter, and I will not make noise regardless of his decision

Multiple posts, but seemed like the main point that multiple owners agreed was:

Quote

I think any retired player should go on effectively the retired/reserve list. If they come back, you’re given the opportunity to keep them or not.Β

----

Nacho:Β I mean, I can certainly take this rule change to a vote. Just to be clear - you are suggesting that this retired/reserved list requires no tag investment?

---

As for the sim, it would beΒ handled the way retired players are currently for the retirement process. But if anyone unretires, they just get put back on their original team that sim offseason and the owner has to decide if they want to spend the tags on them to bring them back.Β

So essentially, Gronk is ineligible for S19. During the offseason, he goes on the team he was before, and must be determined to be a keeper or not at that point (at the cost he was before).

I mean I don't blame tk3 for taking a shot at it lol. But with some of the talent in the NFL stepping away at younger ages, this was bound to come up more than once. It's not like I had any choice in whether or not I could retain his rights for X number of seasons / years; per our rules retirements get removed. But it did seem like it was only fair that the original owners get keeper rights during the offseason (whether it was prior to this season, or prior to the following season) for when someone unretires. Obviously there's a full year nerf to account for as well, but I think when the discussion is around elites at their position, it could still make sense. I'm not saying with certainty that I'd want to tag him, but there should be that choice, and if not, some team should draft him.
