roger murdock
Jokic is a good but limited defender. He plays extremely smart, gets his hands on a lot of passes, gets in position. He doesn't challenge shots aggressively because he doesnt have the athleticism for it and if he gets in foul trouble the Nuggets are f'd. Hes slow laterally so he can get exposed in the PnR. Hes good at 1:1 low post defense, playing off ball/passing lanes, and playing within his limitations. He frequently gets in position, doesn't jump, and positions for the rebound so he can attack the other team with an outlet pass and quick score. Because hes slow on the PnR rotations he can be exploited a bit but besides that his defensive game is very sound. The Curry comparison is pretty close, where Curry is great at defense except 1:1 vs very quick players where he can get carved up. If Jokic tried to be your classic defensive big man he'd be a much worse player because he doesn't have the frame or athleticism for it, he'd foul constantly, he'd get less rebounds, and he'd not be the force in transition that he is. Attacking Jokic for his defensive limitations is like attacking AD for not being his teams point guard. Thats not his game either.
