New Orleans Jazz

Offense:

1RB-2WR-2TE Base – 55% Pass, 45% Run:

Despite the return (if he does play lol) of our star WR Michael Thomas, we’re reverting back to the 2TE system which we successfully opened the season with along with an increased focus on bringing the running game back into things. This is largely because of the make-up of Hungary’s defence, which although sporting a strong secondary, isn’t great on the defensive line and has a glaring weakness at linebacker.

While we will line up in our base formation above, we’ll obviously shift through different formations whether it’s 3WRs or 4WRs. Samuel and Moore will work from the slot primarily, looking for YAC on the crossing routes and slants while Thomas and Brown will predominantly work outside when on the field – Brown as the deep threat and Thomas doing it all.

RB & TE Screens & Involvement in the passing game:

-       We want to put as much pressure on Hungary’s front 7 as possible and in particular their linebackers, so a heavy part of our game plan will involve screens to both our RBs and TEs to put the onus on the linebackers to recognise the screen is coming and successfully be able to track down our RBs and TEs.

-       Outside of the screen game, there’s obviously going to be a focus on getting the ball into our TEs hands against a pedestrian linebacking group. If one does draw Harrison Smith in coverage, we’ll focus on the other or look to the running backs more.

No Huddle with Samuel or Moore at RB (Thomas (Brown) – Moore - Samuel – Ertz – Higbee Grouping)

-       As with last week, we plan to use a great amount of this no huddle formation to try and hammer home this advantage we have over the Hungary LBers. We know they won’t be able to keep up with Moore or Samuel as receivers if they are motioned out of the backfield and split out wide, while still being able to get a serviceable running game out of them or Allen.

-       Additionally, given Hungary won’t be able to substitute players or change packages in the no huddle, there’ll be an increased amount of strain on this linebacker group to call the defense at the line of scrimmage and react to the different looks we give them without an opportunity to prepare.

Options & Play-Action:

-       When the running backs are in, as usual we’ll run a fair amount of play-action to get Allen outside of the pocket and throwing on the run where he does his best work. Knowing that at least one linebacker will follow the running back, and another linebacker or safety will be spying on Allen as a runner, there’ll be opportunities for Allen to hit a TE on an out route or a crossing receiver.

-       Additionally, the option will remain a big fixture whether it’s in the no huddle or in ordinary play with the RBs. While we feel we can have success with it against any defense, it is yet another tool we can use to put pressure on the Hungary LBers and have them in two minds about committing or containing.

Defense:

Hungary brings an impressive 4 Deep WR group and a decent BDL QB in Dak Prescott into this match up, however we feel confident that our quality in the secondary and the ability of our pass-rush will be able to slow down the offense despite our injuries, and give us an opportunity to win the game.

Cover 1 Man - Coverage Assignments:

-       As almost always is the case, we’re going to roll out with our standard man coverage. The assignments will be as follows:

Gilmore – Kenny Golladay
Bradberry – DK Metcalf
J.C. Jackson – Thielen
Hyde - Slayton
Johnson – Running back

Byard will remain the single high safety to primarily prevent the deep threat of Metcalf and Golladay, while Jackson will patrol the intermediate level of the field as protection against Thielen and Slayton playing as crossers and out of the slot.

Take Advantage of Hungary’s OL Weakness:

-       While Hungary boasts are very good left side of the offensive line in Brown and Marpet, it is clearly far more vulnerable from the center onwards going right. Glasgow is playing out of position, while Herbig and Massie have no business playing in the BDL.

-       Because of this, we’re planning on running a number of stunts and blitzes primarily shooting for the gap between Herbig and Massie. We plan on using Johnson as a blitzer with regularity given his expertise, as well as Hyde on occasion where he’s nearer the LOS.

-       While Onyemata was newly acquired this week, he had spent the two previous seasons in New Orleans and has familiarity with our system will allow him to rotate in seamlessly, while we’ll rotate our defensive ends as usual with Winovich playing a number of snaps in place of Allen and Houston as the game goes on to keep our pass-rush fresh.

Hungary Hippos

Offense:

This week we welcome back Mostert to our offense. We also have added Adam Thielen to our starting offense as well.

Offense: 50/50 Pass Run

This week New Orleans lost two of it’s playmakers on it’s d-line in Simmons and Allen. It is expected that Winovich will slide into Allen’s slot, but this leaves New Orleans dangerously thin on the edge, while at interior we expect New Orleans to deploy their new interior pass rusher in David Onyemata.

Onyemata and Harris are not used to playing 60% of snaps per game and Winovich and Houston are not used to surpassing 70%. One of our main goals this week is to keep this defensive line on the field and make them exhaust out.

Strategy - No Huddle - Up-Tempo

The purpose of a no huddle up-tempo offense is to keep a defensive base front on the field the entire time. It keeps substitutions out of the game, forces the defense to respond quickly, and makes them more susceptible to either the pass or run depending on their initial focus. If the defense is geared up to stop the run, they become more susceptible to the passing game in the intermediate and deeper routes. If a defense is geared to stop the pass, it makes them more susceptible to the running game.

In this game we will be balanced between our running and passing offense.  In the running offense we will be Robinson and Mostert will be in for every other drive. Ex: Drive 1 - Robinson, Drive 2 - Mostert, Drive 3 - Robinson etc. Both backs are true playmakers on our offense. Look for stretch runs to the outside with their speed, as well as pounding the rock inside especially when Robinson is in the game. Both backs will also be used in the screen game if New Orleans wants to send heavy blitzes. Dak will also be primed to use his legs to scramble on any given play. From time to time to time the RB will be split out which will help in both Man/Zone coverage.

In the passing game Golladay and DK will have the outside routes while Thielen will be primarily in the slot. Every WR in my offense (and my bench save Fitz) have the ability to go deep on any given play. They also have the ability to do underneath work as well. We will look for Golladay and DK especially on the sideline throws as both have jumpball ability and can truck the defender. Thielen is hand down one of the best route runners in football especially out of the slot. We will look to get the ball into his hands regularly especially on Stem routes and corner routes

Hockenson will help chip the edge before running flat routes against New Orleans. Periodically he will be sent down the seam. He will be heavily used to help seal off the edge on running plays as well.

Only near the red zone will we potentially switch formation to 4WR, 5WR or 2 TE as the dline will have played the entire series on the field and New Orleans depth behind their starters is lacking in quality due to the number of injuries and illnesses it has faced.

Defense:

This week New Orleans has a couple of question marks on offense. Michael Thomas is questionable to play, John Brown reinjured his calf in practice this week and Deebo is coming off injury himself. We truly don’t know what to expect out of this receiving core this week.

We will have a balanced mix of zone and man coverage this week against New Orleans. Hayward and Griffin will lineup on the outside while Ryan will have the slot. Oruwariye will come in on four wides. Hayward will primarily be across from Thomas if he is in the game. Otherwise we will play it straight. In nickel looks, we will be utilizing more Cover 3 concepts with Baker and the two outside corners taking thirds.

In 2 TE looks, Harrison Smith will cheat up creating an 8-man box against the running game (Jewell coming in for Ryan). Against the pass he will be a jack of all trades such as middle zone, TE bracket, and a spy for the QB. Wilson and Greenlaw will play middle zone which will allows for TE coverage, as well as a better defense against Allen running the ball himself. On obvious rushing downs we can switch to a 5-2 with Shelton playing NT to stymie the run. In Cover 3 looks the Greelaw will maintain middle zone while Ryan and Wilson cover the flats.

Stephon Gilmore is out for this game as well correct since the Patriots game was pushed back to Sunday?

Dantzler next man up?

Also as of right now, Brown is expected to play despite a knee and calf injury.

Dantzler looked like a newborn giraffe trying to gain its balance last night

They now technically have a bye this week now so bye week rules would be in effect.  Gilmore is in cause he player in their last game.  Newton, anyone else who missed that game is out

Ugh lol. Brown is out.

Gesicki comes in and lines up out wide for the no huddle line-up, base line-up is Deebo & Moore at wide-out.

Lol I mean I did say in the lineup your WR core was pretty in shambles this game.

Lol it'll just give ww the perfect excuse to continue his clearly biased voting against me despite the fact I've made it clear my game plan is to target my RBs and TEs against 2 IRL! backups at LB.
