German Mock Draft 2022 Edition (4 Rounds)

As every year I participated in a Mock Draft on a german NFL message board where 32 armchair GMs are trying to improve their team as much as possible. Also as always, my armchair was at Gute’s house, so I had the honor to pick for the best Franchise in Football, the Green Bay Packers. Trades were allowed, but only with 2022 picks, no future picks, no players. I was trying to mix it up with what I wanted to do, and also taking into consideration what the Packers would normally do. It’s only 4 rounds from me, another Packer fan from Austria will do the remaining 3 since they are speeding up and it’s difficult for me in NC to cover the time difference. That’s what I ended up with:

Round 1:

1. Jacksonville Jaguars - Ikem Ekwonu, OT, NC State
2. Detroit Lions - Aidan Hutchinson, Edge, Michigan
3. Houston Texans - Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame
4. New York Jets - Kayvon Thibodeaux, Edge, Oregon
5. New York Giants - Evan Neal, OT, Alabama
6. Carolina Panthers - Malik Willis, QB, Liberty
7. New York Giants (from Chicago ) - Ahmad Gardner, CB, Cincinnati
8. Atlanta Falcons - Travon Walker, Edge, Georgia
9. Seattle Seahawks (from Denver) - Charles Cross, OT, Mississippi State
10. New York Jets (from Seattle) - Drake London, WR, USC
11. Washington Commanders - Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State
12. Minnesota Vikings - Derek Stingley, CB, LSU
13. Houston Texans (from Cleveland) - Tyler Linderbaum, C, Iowa
14. Baltimore Ravens - Jordan Davis, DT, Georgia
15. Philadelphia Eagles (from Miami) - Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah
16. Philadelphia Eagles (from Indianapolis) - Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State
17. Los Angeles Chargers - Zion Johnson, OG, Boston College
18. New Orleans Saints - Trevor Penning, OT, Northern Iowa
19. Detroit Lions (from Philadelphia) - Kenny Pickett, QB, Pitt
20. Pittsburgh Steelers - Andrew Booth, CB, Clemson
21. New England Patriots - Trent McDuffie, CB, Washington

22. Green Bay Packers (from Las Vegas) - George Karlaftis, Edge, Purdue

When Drake, Wilson and Olave were gone, WR was not an option anymore for 22. So wasn’t OT when Penning went off board. However, I was glad that 2 tremendous Edge Rushers fell in that process, Karlaftis and Jermaine Johnson II. Both are really intriguing prospects at that spot, but I had to decide between both. I went with Karlaftis because he is more build like an Edge the Packers are looking for lately and he is also more than 2 years younger. Something the Packers are looking for, too.

23. Arizona Cardinals - Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama
24. Dallas Cowboys - Jermaine Johnson II, Edge, FSU
25. Buffalo Bills - Roger McCreary, CB, Auburn
26. Tennessee Titans - Christian Watson, WR, North Dakota State
27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Devonte Wyatt, DT, Georgia

28. Green Bay Packers - George Pickens, WR, Georgia

Another decision to make. I wasn’t high on Williams because of the “at that time” unclear injury status and also not on Watson who went 2 picks ahead of me. But I still had Pickens, Burks and Hill right there to grab. I went with offense to keep it balanced and took George Pickens over Burks. Don’t get me wrong, Burks is a great player as well, but Pickens checks just every little box that the Packers are looking for in a WR. I’d call him a prototype Packers WR. I liked Pickens more than Burks and also he is younger and has the better RAS, important if you look at recent Drafts.

29. Kansas City Chiefs (from San Francisco via Miami) - Boye Mafe, Edge, Minnesota
30. Kansas City Chiefs - Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State
31. Cincinnati Bengals - Kaiir Elam, CB, Florida
32. Philadelphia Eagles (from L.A. Rams via Detroit) - Lewis Cine, S, Georgia

Round 2:

33. Jacksonville Jaguars - Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas
34. New York Giants (from Detroit) - David Ojabo, Edge, Michigan
35. New York Jets - Breece Hall, RB, Iowa State
36. Detroit Lions (from N.Y. Giants) - Nakobe Dean, LB, Georgia
37. Houston Texans - Kenyon Green, OG, Texas A&M
38. Pittsburgh Steelers (from Carolina via New York Jets) - Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss
39. Chicago Bears - Bernhard Raimann, OT, Central Michigan
40. Seattle Seahawks (from Denver) - Travis Jones, DT, Connecticut
41. Baltimore Ravens (from Seattle) - Daxton Hill, S, Michigan
42. Indianapolis Colts (from Washington) - Kyler Gordon, CB, Washington
43. Atlanta Falcons - Skyy More, WR, Western Michigan
44. Cleveland Browns - Drake Jackson, Edge, USC
45. Seattle Seahawks (from Ravens) - Arnold Ebekitie, DE, Penn State
46. New York Jets (from Minnesota) - Trey McBride, TE, Colorado State
47. Washington Commanders (from Indianapolis) - Chad Muma, LB, Wyoming
48. Chicago Bears (from L.A. Chargers) - Logan Hall, DT, Houston
49. New Orleans Saints - Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina
50. Kansas City Chiefs (from Miami) - Jalen Pitre, S, Baylor
51. Philadelphia Eagles - Nik Bonitto, Edge, Oklahoma
52. Minnesota Vikings (from New York Jets via Pittsburgh) - Jaquan Brisker, S, Penn State

53. Green Bay Packers (from Las Vegas) - Leo Chenal, LB, Wisconsin

Here I just left aside what the Packers normally would do and just picked my man crush of this Draft class. I love the Badgers and watching Leo Chenal Saturday after Saturday was just sooooo much fun. In the early mocks he was barely drafted prior to the 4th round, now at least he makes it into the late 2nd or early 3rd in some mocks. He is an insane athlete, even if some scouting reports doubt that, a RAS of 9.99 out of 10 tells me otherwise. If you are 250+ and put up a 4.53-second 40-yard dash, a 40.5-inch vertical, and a 10-foot-8 broad jump, I would call you an athlete. On top of that a 34 bench press at the pro day which beat every other player doing that at the combine. Per PFF he was the highest graded LB overall, the highest LB in rush D and the 2nd highest LB in pass rush. Those numbers are misleading at some point, but they are there for a reason. But I took him not because of the numbers, but because of seeing his play all season long. With DeVondre Campbell playing like 2021 on a 5 year contract and Leo Chenal the off-ball LB position would be fixed for years. And we all now how badly this position was treated in the last decade.

54. New England Patriots - Quay Walker, LB, Georgia
55. Arizona Cardinals - Phidarian Mathis, DL, Alabama
56. Dallas Cowboys - Jalen Tolbert, WR, South Alabama
57. Buffalo Bills - Isaiah Spiller, RB, Texas A&M
58. Atlanta Falcons (from Tennessee) - Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati

59. Green Bay Packers - Alec Pierce, WR, Cincinnati

I wasn’t a big Pierce guy at the beginning, but after watching him more I can see why some people are high on him. Versatility is there, as is athletics, reliable blocking (important) and he is a good red zone target. I didn’t see anyone else popping up that I would give the nod over Pierce and give Aaron another weapon.

60. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Cole Strange, OG, Tennessee-Chattanooga
61. San Francisco 49ers - Dylan Parham, OG, Memphis
62. Kansas City Chiefs - Perrion Winfrey, DL, Oklahoma
63. Cincinnati Bengals - Tyler Smith, OT, Tulsa
64. Denver Broncos (from L.A. Rams) - Christian Harris, LB, Alabama

Round 3:

65. Jacksonville Jaguars - Derion Kendrick, CB, Georgia
66. Philadelphia Eagles (from Detroit) - Darian Kinnard, OG, Kentucky
67. New York Giants - Greg Dulcich, TE, UCLA
68. Houston Texans - Cameron Thomas, Edge, San Diego State
69. New York Jets - Martin Emerson, CB, Mississippi State
70. Jacksonville Jaguars (from Carolina) - Josh Paschal, EDGE, Kentucky
71. Chicago Bears - John Metchie, WR, Alabama
72. Seattle Seahawks - Kenneth Walker, RB, Michigan State
73. Los Angeles Chargers (from Washington via Indianapolis) - DeMarvin Leal, DL, Texas A&M
74. Atlanta Falcons - Kingsley Enagbare, Edge, South Carolina
75. Denver Broncos - Sam Williams, Edge, Mississippi
76. Baltimore Ravens - Daniel Faalele, OT, Minnesota
77. Minnesota Vikings - Jamaree Salyer, OG, Georgia
78. Cleveland Browns - David Bell, WR, Purdue
79. Indianapolis Colts (from LA Chargers) - Calvin Austin, WR, Memphis
80. Houston Texans (from New Orleans) - Brandon Smith, LB, Penn State
81. New York Giants - Ed Ingram, OG, LSU
82. Atlanta Falcons (from Indianapolis) - Tyler Allgeier, RB, BYU
83. Philadelphia Eagles - Coby Bryant, CB, Cincinnati
84. New York Jets (from Pittsburgh) - Bryan Cook, S, Cincinnati
85. New England Patriots - Sean Rhyan, OT, UCLA
86. Las Vegas Raiders - Abraham Lucas, OT, Washington State
87. Arizona Cardinals - Zyon McCollum, CB, Sam Houston State
88. Dallas Cowboys - Luke Goedeke, OG, Central Michigan
89. Buffalo Bills - Khalil Shakir, WR, Boise State
90. Tennessee Titans - Jelanie Woods, TE, Virginia
91. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Alontae Taylor, CB, Tennessee

92. Green Bay Packers - Nicholas Petit-Frere, OT, Ohio State

Abraham Lucas was my favorite target for that pick, but the Raiders wanted to piss me off. With Turner, Patrick and Kelly gone I really wanted to address the OL early (Tyler Smith was in my mind much, but his penalties just scare me as hell). Also there are 2 ways to fix the Packers OL, either from the inside and move Jenkins to RT or draft a starter or Swing Tackle and keep Jenkins protecting the blind side. I think the depth of the Packers is way better inside than at OT. Jenkins might miss the first couple of games, that leaves Bakhtiari and Nijman as the only 2 guys that I want to see playing OT on the current roster. One injury to any of those 2 and the season is in big jeopardy. So I selected Nicholas Petit-Frere, who can play both tackle spots and was one of 2 OTs left that I considered starter material. Plus, he is a system fit as well and is projected to be of board a bit higher. If the Packers resigned Billy Turner, Kerby Joseph would be the pick here.

93. San Francisco 49ers - Kerby Joseph, S, Illinois
94. Kansas City Chiefs - Tariq Woolen, CB, UTSA
95. Cincinnati Bengals - Cam Jurgens, C, Nebraska
96. Denver Broncos (from L.A. Rams)  - Joshua Williams, CB, Fayetteville State
97. Detroit Lions - Wan'Dale Robinson, WR, Kentucky
98. New Orleans Saints - Myjai Sanders, Edge, Cincinatti
99. Seattle Seahawks (from Cleveland Browns) - Bailey Zappe, QB, Western Kentucky
100. Baltimore Ravens - Marcus Jones, CB, Houston
101. New Orleans Saints - Damone Clark, LB, LSU
102. Miami Dolphins - DeAngelo Malone, Edge, Western Kentucky
103. Kansas City Chiefs - Rasheed Walker, OT, Penn State
104. Minnesota Vikings (from Los Angeles Rams) - Brian Asamoah, LB, Oklahoma
105. San Francisco 49ers - Jeremy Ruckert, TE, Ohio State

Round 4:

106. Jacksonville Jaguars - JT Woods, S, Baylor
107. Houston Texans (from Cleveland via Detroit) - Cam Taylor-Britt, CB, Nebraska
108. Houston Texans - Romeo Doubs, WR, Nevada
109. Cleveland Browns (from Seattle Seahawks via N.Y. Jets) - Nick Cross, S, Maryland
110. Baltimore Ravens (from N.Y. Giants) - Malcolm Rodriguez, LB, OK State
111. New York Jets (from Carolina) - JoJo Doman, LB, Nebraska
112. New York Giants (from Chicago) - Troy Andersen, LB, Montana State

113. Green Bay Packers (from Washington) - Isaiah Likely, TE, Costal Carolina

Trade Alert!!! Likely was one of my top 3 TE targets and he was falling, but a double pick for the Broncos was upcoming, who invested their first 3 picks in Defense and were in clear need of a pass catching TE after they traded Fant away (Albert O. is good, but often injured), their WR group looks rock solid, so I was expecting them to have Likely high on their board. So I called Washington and sent 132, 171 and 228 to the Commanders in exchange for 113. Many of you probably won’t like the trade, but nobody can hate the trade more than I love Isaiah Likely. His frame looks a bit small (underweighted) for a TE, but that’s the only negative I can see. For his size he is a more than willing blocker and does more good with that than bad, especially at the 2nd level. And from a passing game standpoint, I don’t see any question mark. 17.0 YPC in the last 2 years and 27 career TDs at Coastal Carolina. That’s a TD in every 5th reception. Also after I watched his tapes I went out with a friend of mine and we were joined by his brother, who is a position coach at Coastal Carolina and it took him not long to convince me that I should do everything possible, to get this guy. Now Aaron cannot complain about lacking weapons anymore, I gave him 3 great ones and a security guy. Also with Tonyan on a 1-year deal and Lewis getting old, it was an investment not only short term, but for the future.

114. New Orleans Saints (from Atlanta) - Justyn Ross, WR, Clemson
115. Denver Broncos - Cade Otten, TE, Washington
116. Denver Broncos (from Seattle) - Dameon Pierce, RB, Florida
117. Los Angeles Rams (from Vikings via Jets and Vikings) - Kyren Williams, RB, Notre Dame
118. Cleveland Browns - Chigoziem Okonkwo, TE, Maryland
119. Baltimore Ravens - Alec Lindstrom, C, Boston College
120. Atlanta Falcons (from New Orleans) - Mario Goodrich, CB, Clemson
121. Kansas City Chiefs (from Miami) - Alex Wright, Edge, UAB
122. Indianapolis Colts - Carson Strong, QB, Nevada
123. Los Angeles Chargers - Jalyn Armour-Davis, CB, Alabama
124. Philadelphia Eagles - Neil Farrell Jr., DT, LSU
125. Miami Dolphins (from Pittsburgh) - Matt Araiza, P, SDSU
126. Las Vegas Raiders - Channing Tindall, LB, Georgia
127. New England Patriots - Joshua Ezeudu, OG, North Carolina
128. Baltimore Ravens (from Arizona) - Christopher Allen, Edge, Alabama
129. Dallas Cowboys - Luke Fortner, C, Kentucky
130. Buffalo Bills - Darrian Beavers, LB, Cincinnati
131. Tennessee Titans - Thayer Munford Jr., OG, Ohio State
132. Washington Commanders (from Green Bay) - Markquese Bell, S, Florida A&M
133. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - James Cook, RB, Georgia
134. San Francisco 49ers - Dominique Robinson, Edge, Miami (OH)
135. Kansas City Chiefs - Charlie Kolar, TE, Iowa State
136. Cincinnati Bengals - Max Mitchell, OT, Louisiana
137. Carolina Panthers (from L.A. Rams via Houston) - Logan Bruss, OG, Wisconsin
138. Pittsburgh Steelers - Tyquan Thornton, WR, Baylor
139. Cleveland Browns (from Seattle Seahawks via Baltimore) - Matthew Butler, DT, Tennessee

140. Green Bay Packers - Zach Tom, OT, Wake Forest

I’m happy with the player, but unhappy with the position. Zach Tom started 2 season as Center and then 2 season at OT, so he is providing depth throughout the line. However, I badly wanted a Defensive Back, preferably Safety here, but I didn’t like any of the remaining prospects at this point. So I picked OL depth. Amos and Savage are rock solid, but depth is non-existent. So Gute probably needs to find a FA gem like he did with Douglas and Campbell last season.

141. Baltimore Ravens - Terrel Bernard, Edge, Baylor
142. Los Angeles Rams - Rupi#57
143. Tennessee Titans - Zab007

Overall I’m pretty happy with my Mock Draft, other than the Safety issue and that I couldn’t add depth to the DL. How would you guys rate the outcome?

Really great job! I think the thing people miss with a lot of mocks is the real element - anyone can say a player is available in a certain spot, but this method really confirms it.

Some notes:

Nailed it with the first pick. And I won't complain on the second although I would have looked long and hard at the safety Hill. Pickens is a perfect fit for the Adams role.

At first I was going to complain about taking Chenal when Tyler Smith would be great value in that range, but then you totally came through with Petit-Frere a round later for a comparably talented player.

Pierce is a need to replace the MVS role so I won't complain much, but I feel like it's a thin draft for D-linemen so I might have preferred Winfrey, but that's the only thing I would have changed due to hindsight.

Great snag of Tom in Rd 4 and I agree it's...Likely...we look at that tight end around that range (pardon the pun)

Nice work, lots of effort.

Don't mind he first 3 picks but I would really hate taking 2 WR's in the first 4 picks. I think we need a penetrating big DL prospect. Not a run stuffer a pressure power guy. Best one on the board in the top 4 pics the rest I like, drop that second WR.

Great job with your mock. You managed to pick some of my most favorite dudes: Karlaftis, Pickens, Pierce, and Petit-Frere. The picking of Chenal at #53 makes lots of good sense, but I am skeptical that Gutekunst will take an ILB that high. I lean toward the DL you wish you could have picked--someone like Phidarian Mathis or Perrion Winfrey in the second round.  Your rationale for the trade up for a tight end is solid, too, so I'm not disagreeing with your thought process. It's just that I've heard Gutekunst talk about how he and Ted T always want to have as many draft picks as possible. In this case, perhaps Charlie Kolar at TE at pick #132 would be the choice? Anyway, excellent work. I really hope we hear some of your names on Draft Day.

Thanks, that's exactly what I like in this Mock Draft Format, it's not about you alone, but also what 31 other people think or do. If I got one of the 3 top WR Hill would have been my obvious choice at 28. But with the big hole at WR I wanted to grab one of the top 5 and I didn't want to wait until 53. I also agree that I'd liked to get a great DL, but with the addition of Jarran Reed it just moved down the priority list. Reed, Clark and Lowry with Slaton in the mix should be fine, especially with Packages that only have 2 DL on the field anyway. As I said, this Mock was a mix of me and the Packers, and Chenal was clearly the "ME" part. As was Likely, which left 2 holes at DB and DL.

I'm sure Draft Picks were everything with TT, but Gute is really moving up and down the boards. With DL as mentioned in my last Post, I don't disagree at all, the "ME" part of the mock just didn't let it happen. But I really appreciate your input. I hope Chenal (if picked) brings as much pass rush and run support to the Packers that we are all happy with our current front 3 (rotational 4) :)

If the board works then I think 2 WR in the first 4 picks would be ideal. We lost Adams and MVS and were already lacking a genuine WR2 last season so even after Pickens, it would still be a bigger need than DL.  The draft is so unreliable taking two early gives you a better chance of an early contributer as well.

Great picks, love the first pick and yes Chenal may be my man crush of this draft after Karlaftis and Nakobe Dean. Can someone answer me why not more love for Jahan Dotson WR from Penn State? I think he's a top 15 pick in my eyes all day long. His hands are amazing, maybe I have him ranked higher than most. I have nothing against Pickens, actually really want him, but I'd take Dotson over him, but would be amazed if this draft went this way. Great job and thanks for sharing.

Thanks. Dotson wasn't on my board since I think he is a pure slot guy and the Packers have that with Cobb and Amari Rodgers. The need is more at X and Z and not in the slot.
