It took Troy Aikman until there was 3 mins left in the game to say a single negative thing about the Chargers after he spent the entirety of the game going IN on every Broncos offensive play when both teams were tied 16-16. Shrug, people around here are pretty much bent over laughing at Staley/how poor the Chargers defense looks compared to it’s talent. They’re just not AS lulzy as Hackett and the Broncos O.

The Chargers are like this though. I've been saying it since late last year, that when you watch the Chargers on offense, it never feels bad. It seems like they're doing just fine. Then you look at the scoreboard and it's like wait, how few points do they have? Like, Wilson was sacked 4 times, barely completed over 50% of his passes. Herbert was only sacked twice, and was at about 65% completion. The latter feels less incompetent. It feels like a lot of straight up failed plays for the former. Until you realize 13 completions were to RBs and Herbert went for 4.2 yards per attempt. Pass attempt, to be clear. LAC's offensive struggles are just more subtle.

The X factor in this argument is Russell Wilson. That trade got so much hype and the contract he got was so insane, that anything less than elite play was going to invite criticism....and when that QB is not only not playing elite football, but is arguably a bottom 5 starter thus far....he is going to get slaughtered. The Chargers are disappointing every year. Par for the course, and thus not big news.

The talent is there for McDaniels, Staley, Hackett, Stefanski (sort of). Yeah, you’d expect Eberflus or Lovie to be coaching some bad teams, but almost everyone seems to be underachieving except for the really good teams and a few up & comers in Saleh, McDaniel, and Daboll. Carroll, Belichick, and Shanahan are doing fine. Yeah, teams just feel inexcusably inept. Like last year, your worst offenses were like, Jacksonville, with a rookie QB/HC, and Houston, dealing with the Watson aftermath, and like the Jets and Giants and Panthers who were figuring out if they had a bust at QB or not. And then this year it's like...Baker Mayfield, and Carson Wentz, and Matt Ryan, and Russell Wilson, and Matt Stafford, and Aaron Rodgers, in the bottom 10 scoring offenses. Not all great QBs, but most of the worst offenses in the NFL right now still have a QB that someone has had a great season with in the past. Even Mitchell Trubisky has been a part of successful offense's before. You kind of get Justin Fields, but even that has been so breathtakingly bad to as be just unacceptable at this level. Interestingly enough, most of those QBs you mentioned are all playing in new offenses, on new teams, after spending a decent amount of time with their old team. Have to wonder if that’s a part of it, in conjunction with some really bad coaching hires, and maybe inflated expectations after seeing Stafford transition pretty smoothly to LA. Only thing that makes sense. I thought some teams were coming out flat because of how some coaches were handling their starters in the preseason and during camp, but the rust should be shaken off by now. The Rams seem to suck because we've played a bunch of top DLs while having our OL decimated by injuries. I expect our offense to stabilize as we get OLs back healthy and McVay makes adjustments. Buffalo, Dallas, and SF all have elite defenses (#1, #2, and #4 in PPG Allowed).

I don’t put much thought into McVay and the Rams. Technically they qualify into the group of underachievers through 6 weeks, but it’s a foregone conclusion for me that they figure it out and return to a decent form at least. Similar to how I expect the Giants to fall to earth.
